Super great location if you are planning to stay in Perth CBD, as it is just 2 minutes' walk to the Murray Street Mall that has many shops, cafes, restaurants, and also hosts Perth Underground (Train Station). Overall, my 5-night stay was pleasant. The staff was very friendly (just like any of the local Perth residents). The room, however, is a bit small for a two-person stay, but my wife and I made do with it as we spent most of our time outside of the hotel. Will definitely come back.

While renovated some years back, the hotel felt as if it was renovated just 2 years back. Very comfortable stay and clean! Highly recommend and there are a stretch of bars and restaurants just opposite and CPP parking within 2min walk away. Shopping streets are within 8min walk too.

More about hotels in Perth

As one of the world's most isolated capital cities, Perth doesn't feel remote once you're there — it feels like a easy-going mix of city, coast and countryside packed into one long, sunny stretch of Western Australia. The CBD sits on the Swan River, the beaches are a short hop away, and the wine country of the Swan Valley is closer than most visitors expect.

Where you stay shapes your trip more than usual here, since Perth's best bits are spread across a handful of distinct areas rather than stacked in one downtown strip.

Where to stay in Perth

  • Perth CBD — best for first-timers and short stays. Walkable, well connected by public transport, and close to Kings Park, Elizabeth Quay and the Hay Street and Murray Street malls.
  • Northbridge — Perth's nightlife and food strip, a few minutes' walk from the CBD. James Street's bars, live music venues and late-night eats make this the pick for travellers who want to be in the middle of it.
  • Fremantle — heritage port city about 30 minutes from the CBD by train. Home to the Fremantle Markets, a strong arts and cafe scene, and the main ferry departure point for Rottnest Island.
  • Scarborough — Perth's beach base, with the Scarborough Beach Esplanade's pools, bars and sunset views right on the sand.
  • Swan Valley — about 25 minutes from the CBD, Western Australia's oldest wine region, with vineyards, breweries and a slower pace than the city.

How much is Perth accommodation?

Prices climb during summer school holidays and the Christmas–New Year stretch, but most of the year you'll find comfortable private accommodation in Perth for around AU$150–AU$200 a night.

  • Hostels and budget stays: From around AU$30–AU$50 a night for a dorm bed, with private rooms from about AU$100.
  • Heritage pubs and boutique hotels: From around AU$150–AU$220 a night — often the most characterful option, especially in Fremantle and Northbridge.
  • Mid-range hotels: From around AU$180–AU$280 a night, typically in or near the CBD.
  • Luxury hotels: From around AU$400 a night, for five-star properties with pools, spas and river or city views.

What is Perth known for?

  • Kings Park — one of the largest inner-city parks in the world, with sweeping views over the Swan River and the CBD skyline, just minutes from the centre.
  • Rottnest Island — a car-free island a short ferry ride from Fremantle or Elizabeth Quay, best known for its quokkas, bike trails and beaches.
  • Cottesloe Beach — one of Perth's most-loved swimming beaches, especially at sunset.
  • Fremantle's heritage streetscape — 19th-century port architecture, markets and a laid-back cafe culture.
  • Swan Valley — Western Australia's oldest wine region, with cellar doors, breweries and farm-gate produce within half an hour of the city.

What are the best hotels in Perth?

  • COMO The Treasury (CBD): A five-star hotel set inside restored 19th-century state government buildings, pairing heritage architecture with a serious spa and restaurant.
  • QT Perth (CBD): Bold, design-led rooms and a rooftop bar in the heart of Murray Street — a good pick if you want personality over predictability.
  • Alex Hotel (Northbridge): An art-forward stay with communal lounge spaces and a rooftop wine bar, right in Perth's nightlife strip.
  • Federal Hotel (Fremantle): A heritage pub-hotel on William Street, an easy walk from the Fremantle Markets and the Rottnest ferry terminal.
  • Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough: Right across from Scarborough Beach, this is the pick for travellers who want to walk straight onto the sand.
  • Hostel G Perth (CBD): A well-reviewed budget option in the city centre, good for solo travellers and groups.

Tips for booking a stay in Perth

  • If you're basing yourself in the CBD, you don't need a car — the free Transperth CAT bus loops around the city centre, and trains connect easily to Fremantle.
  • Rottnest Island ferries leave from both Fremantle and Elizabeth Quay — check which is closer to your hotel before booking a ferry time.
  • Book 3–4 months ahead for summer (December–February) and school holiday periods, when prices and demand both climb.
  • You don't need to change hotels to fit in a Swan Valley or Fremantle day trip — both are easy there-and-back trips from a CBD base.

Moving onto other Australian cities after Perth?

If Perth is one stop on a bigger Western Australian or nationwide trip, a few other places worth checking out:

  • Broome: Remote and dramatic, with red cliffs, pearling history and some of the best sunsets in the country.
  • Busselton: Home to the longest timber-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere, a few hours south of Perth.
  • Margaret River: World-class wineries, forests and surf beaches.
  • Exmouth: Gateway to Ningaloo Reef's coral and marine life.

Heading interstate instead? Traveloka also covers Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and the Gold Coast.

Frequently Asked Questions about Accommodation in Perth

What's the best time of year to visit Perth?

Perth has a dry, sunny climate most of the year. December to March is hot and dry, often into the 30s. April–May and September–November are mild and less crowded, generally the easiest months for sightseeing. June–August is cooler and wetter, but still mild by most standards, and a quieter time to visit.

How do I get to Perth from other Australian cities?

Perth is well served by direct domestic flights: around 3 hours from Adelaide, 4 hours from Melbourne, and roughly 5 hours from Sydney or Brisbane on Qantas, Virgin Australia and Jetstar. Perth also sits 2–3 hours behind the eastern states depending on the season, which catches a lot of interstate travellers out when booking connections or calling home.

Should I stay in Perth CBD or Fremantle?

The CBD suits first-time visitors and short stays — it's walkable, central, and close to Kings Park and Elizabeth Quay. Fremantle has more of a heritage, arts-and-markets feel and is the easiest base if Rottnest Island is on your list, since the ferry leaves from there. Both are only about 30 minutes apart by train, so neither choice locks you out of the other.

Do I need a car to get around Perth?

Not if you're staying central. The free Transperth CAT bus loops around the CBD, and trains connect easily to Fremantle and the northern suburbs. A car becomes more useful if you want to explore Swan Valley, the southern beaches or head further out to Margaret River at your own pace.

What's a good day trip from Perth?

Rottnest Island is the classic choice — about 25 minutes by ferry from Fremantle or 90 minutes from Elizabeth Quay, and easy to explore by bike in a day. Swan Valley's wineries and breweries are a 30-minute drive for a slower half-day out. Margaret River is further, around 3 hours by car, so it's better as an overnight trip than a day trip.

How many days do you need in Perth?

Three to four days covers the CBD and Fremantle comfortably, with time for a Rottnest Island day trip. If you want to add Swan Valley or make Margaret River an overnight trip, budget six to seven days in total.

Are Perth's beaches safe for swimming?

Perth's main beaches, including Cottesloe and Scarborough, are patrolled by lifesavers over summer — always swim between the flags. Afternoons often bring a strong sea breeze locals call the "Fremantle Doctor," which is welcome relief from the heat but worth knowing about if you're swimming, paddling or boating later in the day.

Is Perth expensive compared to other Australian cities?

Perth generally sits in the middle of the pack — pricier than it used to be, but usually cheaper for accommodation than Sydney or Melbourne, and comparable to Adelaide or Brisbane. Dining, rideshares and everyday costs are fairly in line with other Australian capital cities.

What should I pack for a trip to Perth?

Sun protection year-round — the UV index gets strong even on mild days. Pack light layers for evenings, since temperatures drop after dark even in summer, plus swimwear and comfortable walking shoes for Kings Park, Fremantle and the beaches.
