My experience of staying at Apex was very pleasant. The hotel is strategically close to the city center. In front of the hotel there are lots of restaurants and cafes, many right and left mini-markets that all look pretty similar in medieval times. And the most beautiful, when opening a hotel room window immediately visible Edinburgh Castle. Clean hotel rooms and complete facilities. Plus the breakfast menu is very tasty and varied.

The upgrade to a room with a balcony plus view of castle was ££s a day extra. The balcony was a fenced in walk way of just over 1 m. There was no air conditioning and the room was so hot it was difficult to sleep. The view of the castle was true but in June/July the real view is a building site.

The rooms was comfortable and had a gorgeous view of the castle. A top floor room also means privacy from the busy street below (which can be quite lively at night!). The gym facilities are excellent and accessible. The staff were generally friendly but occasionally aloof. The lack of air conditioning meant a very warm room most of our stay in June, so a fan (provided in-room) is necessary. The open window somehow did not cool down the room at all at night, so sometimes it was hot in the room but lovely outside. Location is incredibly convenient and walkable (under 15 mins) to Waverly Station.

The hotel and the room were both nice and clean. Ideal location with a pretty view of the castle.
The only issue would be the shower/tub. It is very tall so a little awkward to climb in and out of (I’m 5’4” for reference). Also, the shower doesn’t have a water-tight door so the water spills onto the floor with each usage.
The hotel states they have laundry services. It is a contracted service that takes your laundry for the day and charges per item (very expensive - example, approx $14 to wash 1 pair of jeans, or $4 to clean a pair of socks). There is no onsite laundry.

An absolutely PERFECT location! Right near the center of everything. Friendly staff, nice breakfast, across the street from a cluster of wonderful pubs. At the base of Edinburgh Castle and near shopping. A short cab ride to trains to London, UK spots.

From check in to check out, the experience here is amazing. The staff, the breakfast, the castle views are above extraordinary. If you’re looking for a quiet sleep, consider a non-castle view room as the party on Grassmarket Square goes well past 1:00am, and the cleaning crews immediately start resetting the area for the day crowd.

Loved the place, its location was perfect. We had view of the Edinburgh castle from room. The hotel was very helpful in organizing our tours, recommending local restaurants for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. All meals were excellent. One of the nights we had dinner at the hotel restaurant, it was delicious.
Overall it was just splendid, I highly recommend this place.

Very convenient location (incl own restaurant and several nearby), comfortable bed, clean. The staff was very friendly and professional. What I did not like was how hot the hallways and rooms were. There should have been air conditioning in a hotel of this price. A small fan does not help much. Also the ventilation in the pool area was not good either.

The balcony with castle views is 100% worth upgrade. Only about 10-15 rooms seemingly have the view with a balcony. Staff was great. Hotel was clean. The water bottle refill station was huge. Great stay 10/10

We arrived at midday and were able to check in straight away which was great. Room was ok but a bit rough round the edges, we looked onto a courtyard style car park at the back, so no view to speak of, but that’s fine we didn’t pay for one. It was a hot weekend and there is no air con, so with the windows open during the night it was quite noisy (car park and squawking birds)

Not a completely comfortable stay. Inconvenient in comfort with miscommunication in fire alarm going off with false alarms in mid night & no directions given. Our sleep was completely interrupted thru night & nothing compensated til we had to complain & ask for & given a meal. NOISY location in city so keeping balcony window open is difficult while hotel is incredibly HOT & only small old fan is provided. Price is not low per night so no free breakfast & still charged higher price if you do not reserve in advance. & my VIP expedia rewards for 1 free drink per guest on my booking were given to another couple without asking for identification. Completely unhappy with this stay. Would not recommend for the price we paid.

The location is in the center of a walkable area. The building does not have air conditioning and our room was very warm. We were able to crack our window open, however it was right on a busy street so it was too loud to keep open all night. The hotel itself was clean although our room had large stains on the curtains and stained tiles in the shower. The staff is really friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel for short stays and during times when the weather isn't warm.
