It was a nice experience staying at Rydges Esplanade Resort Cairns. Good city location, everything nearby. I also bought paid parking for $15 per night, and it was smooth as.
They also have $10 credit that you can use at the restaurant on food or beverage if you choose not to use room-service. There was a little misunderstanding at the time of checking-in, but Gigi and Evelyn were helpful at the time of checking out and sorted things out.

The staff at Rydges (reception, cleaning & restaurant) were professional, responsive, genuine and helpful.
The beds were comfortable.
The staff (& beds lol) are let down by managerial decisions that include:
- no balcony furniture
- charging guests for parking
- no blankets on the beds (extra fees apply)
- no toilet brushes, single ply toilet paper
- bad repair work on deck pool, limited sun umbrellas
- scratched and worn paint work
- charging guests to use their room's safe
These decisions are about putting profit over reputation, and as a result Rydges will lose out on guests coming back in future trips (me for instance).
Smart managers make better decisions.
Tip - don't opt out of cleaning your room on a Saturday.

Little things about the room were not thought out. It was hard to find a plug to charge phone. Only one was behind tv. Bath was only for children. No slip mat in bath for shower. Small scratchy towels, etc. Okay, but not fantastic.

Hotel was on a nice walkway on the foreshore.House keeping wasn't the best. Empty tissue box wasn't replaced. No floors vacuumed for the 6 nights stay. Lots of marks on the walls . For each day of no housekeeping a $10 credit was given for maximum of 3 days to use on food and beverage. Breakfast very expensive.

The place needs a proper clean and make over. The tiles in the bathroom had mold on them as well as the ac. The walls had some holes and the paint was coming of in places.
