This is an excellent hotel. The staff were always helpful and the decor/surroundings was beautiful. There are 4 different dining options on site and the food is wonderful.

Pictures don't do it justice. It's a beautiful property. Pool bar manager v i c t o r was the only issue. The hotel manager made up for it. Great lady with short hair, wears a skirt. She didn't provide her name. Alonso at the front desk - great service as well.

Barcelo had great amenities, rooms are a little outdated but clean. Nice pool area, restaurants and a bars on site, car rental service and airport shuttle were very convenient.

We booked this hotel for an early flight out of SJO, one night, because the shuttle wax provided. However, had to get a taxi from and to the airport. The hotel did not respond to our request for a shuttle to the hotel and the shuttle was for 4 am. They only run every 2 hours in the morning. The room was fine, had worst nachos of my life at the bar for $17.

Overall, our stay at Barceló San José was okay. The hotel, rooms, and lobby were clean, and the staff was nice. However, the pool area could use better maintenance since there were a lot of leaves and debris, especially in the kiddie pool. The hotel also feels a bit outdated. Breakfast was just okay — it would be nice to have more variety and international food options for guests from different countries.

The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly I enjoyed using the swimming pool and gym. Breakfast buffet was very good and the premium lounge was an added bonus. Overall I enjoyed my time at Hotel Barcelo and I will definitely return the next time I visit San Jose. - Thanks

The ambiance of the hotel in general, is quite pleasing. Super friendly staff are quite willing to answer any questions that staff may have. The rooms were clean, functional, The layout of the property with its lush tropical gardens gives it an advantage, considering it's surrounded by small homes and businesses, and a busy highway very close by.
