Almost great, but faded glory is a better summary. The "king size" bed was actually a 5' wide "queen", and of a bouncy trampoline design that dates back a few decades. The breakfast buffet lacked modern coffee selections -- just a decent large pre-brewed spout for it -- and had no chopped fruit etc. Adequate yes, great not. Parking was easy. The room required a mix of elevator and stairs to access, or just purely stairs. Lots of hard materials and doors that noisily slam, instead of the sound absorbing materials and soft close mechanisms from the last century. Still, with noise-cancelling headphones worn, it was quiet and we had a decent sleep. Dinner in the hotel restaurant was decent again, and priced reasonably. Good location across a road from the waterfront.

Had a lovely short break at The Imperial Hotel. It's a lovely old hotel, which is a little tired in places, but is otherwise well looked after. Room was spacious and had everything I needed - wifi worked perfectly, allowing me to get some work done. Could do with a new mattress in the room I was in and the pillows were too soft for me, but that is a personal preference. I found all the staff to be wonderful and friendly, and the service and food in the restaurant was excellent. The location is perfect and I would definitely recommend a sea-view room for the best experience - I had a room looking at the back so missed this, but there were no front rooms available when I booked. Car parking is plentiful and well priced - once parked I never moved until I left as I walked or got the train to get around. I would definitely stay here again!

We had a wonderful stay in this property. Fantastic location right on the seafront - we had a sea view from our spacious family room. We needed to check in very late and we contacted the hotel to make sure this wasn’t a problem - the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly and our late check in was not an issue. Good range of choice for breakfast - cereals, fruit, yogurt, croissants and pastries, meats and cheese plus a hot buffet. We have only given 4 stars for the property condition as the outside could do with a lick of paint. However, this is not a major issue and in no way affected our stay. We would recommend this hotel to other guests and would definitely stay again.

We were extremely disappointed having paid $600 for a 2 night stay in what was described as a superior sea view room. There was nothing superior about the room, the decor was tired, holes had been filled in the wall and had not been sanded and repainted. The wind whistled through the window. The water was not replenished on the 2nd day. Some of the staff were disinterested. The lift only services part of the hotel so you may have to carry luggage a few flights of stairs. The breakfast was nice was unfortunately is the only positive thing I can say. I stay in hotels a lot and this was the most disappointed I have been in a long time. I would not recommend staying here.
