The imperial was a hotel is a hotel of character so lacking these days in modern hotels We enjoyed our stay. The magnificent breakfast/ dining room must have seen so comings and goings over the years. . The food was great the bed comfortable .The building was eccentric, if you have difficulty with steps you should let the hotel know although my78 year old husband had no trouble . We booked a room without a sea view but maybe next time .... The hotel is just off the sea front . We walked to the far end of the prom and then the other way into the marina then before leaving we had a walk into the centre of town all easy to do without moving the car

Great welcome from reception in arrival. The hotel has been very grand and is still well kept. A very comfortable stay and the breakfast was excellent.

First room smelled of urine and so asked to be moved. Second rooms mattress was a few decades old and had a significant dip in the middle. I was moved AGAIN finally to a decent mattress. However, the lock had a part missing which made me feel unsafe. I slept with a suitcase against the door. U was surprised that the hotel didn’t even offer anything complimentary for the total inconvenience of moving TWICE!

Great location for exploring the area on foot. Nice selection of bars and restaurants in the area and the hotel is generally ok. We paid a small bit extra for a room upgrade and glad we did as the rooms are a bit dated. Having a balcony and sea view helped to detract from the tired interior. It was clean and complimentary provisions were good. The bed was ok but only average for comfort. I would visit again but only on a discounted rate. It doesn’t command top price at peak time ~ a refurb and updated furniture could make all the difference to this perfectly located older hotel.
