The hospitality is awesome. The hotel staff have been really helpful and attentive. Our room came with a welcome drink (coffee drink of our choice), direct access to the pool (there is even a transparent boat for us to kayak with), free snacks, and in-room breakfast. We had a wonderful stay.

Good room, delicious breakfast and I really like the smell of UHG hotels. Both places I stayed were fragrant. I love it so much. Everything is great. The view from the room is of both the swimming pool and BTS. Most importantly, the hotel is located very well. It is near Central Ladprao, Union Mall, and it is also connected to MRT Phahon Yothin Exit 1. It is very convenient and easy to get to the airport. Stayed there for 5 days, the sheets were changed every day and the room was cleaned, super comfortable, the room was spacious, clean, had a balcony, a refrigerator, and a bathtub. The staff can speak English. Early check-in is possible but there is a charge, but you can leave your luggage at the reception if you arrive before check-in time. There is a 2000 Baht deposit that will be returned after check-out. There are lots of food around the hotel, near Pratunam Market, close to 2 Sevel. There is a comfortable and delicious massage place under the hotel! If you want to order an online taxi, it's easy because the road in front of the hotel is still passable by cars. Highly recommended!!

Zand Morada is a really good hotel if you are coming to the Pattaya area. Beach front with a swimming pool at the resto area. Front office staff are very friendly and helpful. Food prices are not too expensive and they have many choices on the menu. The bed, OMG, is very comfortable, soft, and perfect for us and makes us want to sleep all day hahaa. The reception area is clean and has a really good smell when you are entering. Good for kids also because they have a kids club. The housekeeping team is doing a really good job to make up our room. Definitely, we will be back again next time.

More about hotels in Thailand

Thailand: A Symphony of Culture, Cuisine, and Coastal Charm

Thailand draws international travellers with a captivating blend of ancient traditions and modern allure, offering an escape that resonates deeply with those seeking experiences beyond the ordinary. For visitors from the United States and Europe, the allure lies in the profound cultural immersion, from the serene grandeur of Bangkok's temples to the vibrant energy of its street life. The country presents a unique opportunity to explore a rich heritage, indulge in world-renowned culinary delights, and relax on stunning beaches, all within a framework of exceptional value that is increasingly rare in long-haul travel destinations.

The diversity within Thailand is a significant draw, with each region offering a distinct flavour of the Thai experience. Bangkok, the bustling capital, pulsates with a metropolitan rhythm, showcasing towering skyscrapers alongside ancient temples and labyrinthine markets. In contrast, Phuket, the famed island destination, offers a tropical destination with pristine beaches, turquoise waters, and a more relaxed, resort-focused atmosphere. Choosing between these iconic locales, or venturing further afield, fundamentally shapes the pace and focus of your Thai adventure, catering to different preferences for urban exploration versus coastal relaxation.

For the international traveller, Thailand stands out as a remarkably accessible and affordable destination. With starting prices for accommodation as low as USD 2.70 per night, the country offers incredible value, particularly for those arriving from more expensive markets like the US and Europe. Travellers from India also find Thailand to be an attractive option, balancing cost-effectiveness with a wealth of cultural attractions, from its magnificent temples to its vibrant shopping districts, making it a compelling choice for family holidays and solo explorations alike.

The accommodation landscape in Thailand is as varied as its landscapes, offering options to suit every budget and travel style. For instance, the highly-rated Hotel Ojonq-th, with a remarkable 9.9 rating from 3 reviews, provides an exceptionally affordable entry point at just USD 2.70 per night, showcasing the country's capacity for budget-friendly stays. On the other end of the spectrum, or for those seeking a more established mid-range option, the Ascella Bangkok Hotel, a 3-star property with a solid 9.0 rating from over 400 reviews, offers a comfortable and well-regarded base for exploring the city at USD 42.14 per night. These examples highlight the breadth of choices available when you book hotel stays in Thailand.

Thailand's appeal is broad, drawing distinct interests from its key international markets. American travellers often seek the adventure and exoticism, drawn to the blend of bustling city life and tranquil natural beauty. European visitors frequently prioritize cultural depth and historical exploration, appreciating the intricate temple architecture and the country's rich heritage. For Indian travellers, Thailand offers a convenient and budget-friendly international escape, with a growing number of direct flight options and a welcoming environment for families, including considerations for Halal food. Travellers from African nations, particularly those seeking regional connectivity or a taste of Southeast Asian vibrancy, find Thailand to be an accessible and exciting destination, often with competitive flight routes through regional hubs.

Best Areas to Stay in Thailand

Thailand's allure lies not only in its iconic landmarks but also in the distinct character of its regions. Choosing where to base yourself is a crucial decision that shapes your entire travel experience, especially for first-time international visitors. From the electrifying urban sprawl of Bangkok to the serene beaches of the south, each area offers a unique gateway to the Kingdom's diverse offerings, influencing everything from your daily activities to the overall pace of your journey.

Bangkok

Bangkok, the sprawling capital, is a sensory explosion, a city where ancient traditions meet hyper-modernity. Its atmosphere is one of constant motion, from the serene reverence within gilded temples to the frenetic energy of its street markets and neon-lit nightlife. This dynamic environment appeals strongly to American travellers seeking urban adventure and cultural immersion, as well as European visitors drawn to its historical depth and architectural marvels. Indian families often find Bangkok a convenient and exciting international destination, with ample shopping and dining options.

From Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) or Don Mueang International Airport (DMK), Bangkok is easily accessible. Direct flights from New York (JFK) take around 18-20 hours with one stop, while flights from London (LHR) are typically 11-13 hours. Indian travellers can reach Bangkok from Mumbai (BOM) in about 4 hours, and from Nairobi (NBO) in Kenya, expect a journey of around 12-15 hours with a layover. The city offers a vast array of attractions, from the Grand Palace and Wat Arun to the vibrant Chatuchak Weekend Market, providing endless opportunities to book attractions.

Phuket

Phuket, Thailand's largest island, embodies the tropical dream, renowned for its stunning beaches, clear turquoise waters, and lush green hills. The atmosphere here is decidedly more relaxed than in the capital, centred around sun, sea, and sand, with a vibrant nightlife scene in areas like Patong. This island destination is a major draw for American and European travellers seeking a beach holiday with ample opportunities for water sports and island hopping. Indian families also frequently choose Phuket for its family-friendly resorts and accessible beauty.

Phuket International Airport (HKT) serves the island, with direct flights from some Asian hubs and connections from major global cities. Flights from London (LHR) typically involve one stop and take around 14-16 hours. For Indian travellers, flights from Mumbai (BOM) often connect through Bangkok and take about 7-9 hours. Travellers from Nigeria (LOS) or South Africa (JNB) would likely have longer journeys with multiple stops, potentially exceeding 20 hours. Popular activities include exploring Phang Nga Bay, visiting the Big Buddha, and enjoying the vibrant Patong beach.

Chiang Mai

set in the mountainous north, Chiang Mai offers a distinct cultural experience, often described as the "Rose of the North." The city exudes a more laid-back, artistic vibe, characterized by ancient temples within its old city walls, vibrant night bazaars, and a strong connection to Lanna culture. This slower pace and rich heritage appeal greatly to European travellers seeking cultural depth and a more authentic, less commercialized Thai experience. American travellers looking for adventure activities like trekking and elephant sanctuaries also find Chiang Mai a compelling base.

Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX) is well-connected domestically and internationally, with direct flights from some Asian cities. Flights from Europe (e.g., London LHR) typically involve one stop, often in Bangkok, with a total travel time of around 14-16 hours. Indian travellers can reach Chiang Mai from Mumbai (BOM) with a connection, usually taking 7-10 hours. For travellers from Africa, such as Kenya (NBO), the journey would be significantly longer, involving multiple stops and potentially exceeding 20 hours. Key attractions include Doi Suthep temple, the Old City's temples, and the ethical elephant sanctuaries.

Hua Hin

Hua Hin, a coastal resort town on the Gulf of Thailand, offers a more refined and tranquil beach experience compared to the bustling shores of Phuket. It's a favourite among Thai royalty and offers a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere, with beautiful beaches, excellent seafood, and a range of family-friendly attractions. This makes it particularly appealing to European travellers seeking a quieter beach escape and Indian families looking for a comfortable, accessible seaside destination that is less crowded than some of the more famous islands. It also serves as a good option for those who prefer a shorter transfer from Bangkok.

Hua Hin is accessible by road and rail from Bangkok, with a journey time of approximately 3-4 hours. While it doesn't have its own major international airport, travellers arriving in Bangkok (BKK or DMK) can easily arrange onward transport. For travellers from the US or Europe, this means a flight to Bangkok followed by a comfortable ground transfer. Indian travellers might also fly into Bangkok first, or potentially find flights to nearby airports with onward connections. For travellers from African nations, the journey would involve flying into Bangkok and then arranging ground transport, making it a longer but manageable trip.

Pratunam, Bangkok

Pratunam, located in the heart of Bangkok, is synonymous with shopping, particularly for wholesale fashion and textiles. The area buzzes with activity, from sprawling malls like Platinum Fashion Mall to countless smaller shops and street vendors. Its energetic, commerce-driven atmosphere makes it a prime destination for budget-conscious shoppers from India and other parts of Asia, as well as for travellers from the US and Europe who want to experience Bangkok's vibrant retail scene firsthand. The sheer volume of goods and competitive prices are a major draw.

Pratunam is centrally located in Bangkok, making it easily accessible from both Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK) airports via taxi or the Airport Rail Link to Ratchaprasong station, followed by a short walk or taxi. This convenience is a significant advantage for travellers from all source markets. For those arriving from the US or Europe, the journey to Bangkok is the primary flight component, followed by efficient local transport. Indian travellers can reach Bangkok quickly, and from there, Pratunam is a short hop. African travellers will have longer flight times to Bangkok, but local access to Pratunam is straightforward once in the city.

Ratchaprasong Junction, Siam, Bangkok

The Ratchaprasong Junction and Siam area in Bangkok represent the city's upscale shopping and entertainment heart. Dominated by luxury malls like Siam Paragon, CentralWorld, and Gaysorn Village, it's a hub for high-end retail, fine dining, and entertainment. This district is particularly attractive to affluent travellers from the US and Europe seeking world-class shopping experiences and sophisticated urban amenities. It also appeals to Indian travellers looking for premium brands and a taste of Bangkok's modern luxury, offering a stark contrast to the more traditional markets.

This prime Bangkok location is exceptionally well-connected. It's easily reachable from Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) via the Airport Rail Link to Phaya Thai station, then transferring to the BTS Skytrain, or directly via taxi. For travellers from the US and Europe, the flight to Bangkok is the main international leg, with seamless onward travel to Ratchaprasong. Indian travellers can also fly into Bangkok and then utilize the efficient public transport system. African travellers, after their long-haul flights to Bangkok, will find the city's transport network user-friendly for reaching this central district.

Patong, Kathu, Phuket

Patong is Phuket's most famous and energetic beach town, known for its long sandy beach, bustling nightlife, and wide array of restaurants and bars. The atmosphere is lively and often described as vibrant, catering to travellers seeking entertainment and a classic beach resort experience. This makes it a popular choice for younger travellers from the US and Europe, as well as for Indian tourists looking for a lively beach holiday with plenty of amenities. Its accessibility and range of activities are key draws for a broad international audience.

Patong is located on the west coast of Phuket, a short drive from Phuket International Airport (HKT). The transfer typically takes around 45-60 minutes by taxi or pre-booked shuttle. For travellers arriving from the US or Europe, the flight to Phuket (often with a stop in Bangkok) is the main international component. Indian travellers can also fly into Phuket, often with a connection. For those travelling from African nations, the journey to Phuket will be extensive, involving multiple flights to reach the island, followed by the airport transfer.

Rai Mai, Sam Roi Yot, Prachuap Khiri Khan

Rai Mai, within the Sam Roi Yot district of Prachuap Khiri Khan province, offers a glimpse into a more tranquil, rural side of Thailand, often characterized by its proximity to natural beauty like the Sam Roi Yot National Park. The atmosphere here is serene and less developed, appealing to travellers seeking an escape from the crowds and a connection with nature. This area might attract independent travellers from the US and Europe looking for off-the-beaten-path experiences, or those from India seeking a peaceful retreat away from the typical tourist trails.

This region is best accessed via Bangkok, followed by ground transportation. Travellers would typically fly into Bangkok (BKK or DMK) and then take a bus or hire a car for the approximately 4-5 hour journey south. For international visitors from the US or Europe, this means a long-haul flight to Bangkok, then the onward travel. Indian travellers also often use Bangkok as a gateway. For travellers from African nations, the journey to Bangkok is substantial, followed by the significant ground transfer to Rai Mai, making it a destination for those with more time and a desire for a quieter experience.

Food & Dining

A Culinary Journey Through Thailand

Thai cuisine is celebrated globally for its intricate balance of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy flavours, a culinary art form that captivates international palates. Iconic dishes like Pad Thai, a stir-fried noodle dish with a delightful mix of textures and tastes, and Tom Yum Goong, a hot and sour shrimp soup bursting with aromatic herbs, offer an immediate introduction to this vibrant food culture. For travellers from the US and Europe, these dishes provide an exciting departure from familiar flavours, while for Indian travellers, the complex spice profiles and fresh ingredients often resonate deeply.

Exploring Thailand's culinary landscape is best done by diving into its diverse dining settings. Bustling night markets, such as Bangkok's Jodd Fairs or Chiang Mai's Sunday Walking Street, are essential for experiencing authentic street food. For Muslim travellers from India and Africa, finding Halal options is increasingly feasible. While not all street food is certified Halal, many areas, particularly in Bangkok and larger cities, have dedicated Muslim quarters or restaurants offering Halal meat and ingredients. It's advisable to look for Halal signs or inquire politely, as many vendors are accommodating.

The regional variations in Thai food are significant and add another layer of discovery for visitors. Northern Thai cuisine, influenced by its proximity to Myanmar and Laos, features dishes like Khao Soi, a rich coconut curry noodle soup, and Sai Oua, a flavourful herb sausage. Southern Thai food, on the other hand, is known for its spicier curries, often incorporating turmeric and fresh seafood, reflecting its coastal geography. These distinct regional flavours provide a compelling reason for travellers from the US, Europe, India, and Africa to explore beyond the major tourist hubs.

Practical dining in Thailand is an accessible affair for international visitors. Meals are typically enjoyed at any time of day, with no strict adherence to Western meal schedules. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for good service, with a small amount (e.g., USD 1-2) often left at restaurants. Prices for street food can range from USD 1-3 per dish, while a mid-range restaurant meal might cost USD 5-15. Understanding basic Thai phrases for ordering can enhance the experience, though English is widely understood in tourist areas, easing communication for travellers from all backgrounds.

Local Etiquette & Safety

Navigating Thai Culture and Ensuring a Safe Trip

Respect for elders and the monarchy are deeply ingrained in Thai culture, and visitors should be mindful of this. The "Wai," a traditional greeting with palms pressed together, is a common gesture of respect, though foreigners are not expected to initiate it. Removing shoes before entering homes or temples is standard practice. While tourist areas are generally relaxed, dressing modestly when visiting religious sites, such as temples in Bangkok or Chiang Mai, is crucial, with shoulders and knees covered to show respect.

When visiting popular landmarks like the Grand Palace in Bangkok or the temples of Chiang Mai, adherence to local customs is paramount. For religious sites, dress codes are strictly enforced; avoid revealing clothing. Photography is usually permitted, but always check for signs indicating otherwise, and never photograph monks without their explicit consent. In commercial areas like Phuket's Patong or Bangkok's shopping malls, while more casual, maintaining politeness and respecting personal space are appreciated, mirroring norms familiar to travellers from the US and Europe.

Safety in Thailand is generally high for tourists, but standard precautions apply. Valuables should be kept secure, and it's wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded markets or nightlife areas. Ride-hailing apps like Grab are widely available and reliable across major cities, offering a convenient and often safer alternative to unmetered taxis, which is beneficial for travellers from all source markets. Keeping essential offline maps and emergency contact information readily accessible on your phone is a practical step for all visitors.

In case of emergencies, dial 191 for police or 1669 for medical services. The nearest embassies for key source markets include the US Embassy in Bangkok, the British Embassy, and the High Commission of India. For African travellers, embassies such as the Nigerian Embassy, Kenyan High Commission, and South African High Commission are located in Bangkok. It is strongly recommended that all international visitors, including those from the US, Europe, India, and Africa, secure comprehensive travel insurance to cover medical emergencies and other unforeseen events.

Travel Guide

Your Practical Guide to Thailand

Reaching Thailand from its key international markets involves varying flight durations and connectivity. Travellers from the US, departing from hubs like New York (JFK) or Los Angeles (LAX), typically face journeys of 18-20 hours with one stop, often in East Asian cities. European travellers from London (LHR) or Frankfurt (FRA) can expect around 11-13 hour flights with one stop. Indian travellers from Mumbai (BOM) or Delhi (DEL) enjoy shorter routes, with direct flights or one-stop options taking approximately 4-6 hours. For African travellers, flights from Nairobi (NBO) or Lagos (LOS) usually involve multiple stops and can range from 12-20+ hours, often connecting through the Middle East or Europe. You can book flight tickets to Thailand through Traveloka.

Navigating Thailand domestically is efficient and varied. For intercity travel, domestic flights are common and relatively inexpensive, connecting major hubs like Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiang Mai within 1-2 hours. The country also has an extensive bus network, offering a more budget-friendly option for journeys between cities, though travel times are longer. For a more scenic experience, the Thai railway system connects many parts of the country, including popular routes from Bangkok to Chiang Mai or the southern provinces. These options cater well to the diverse travel preferences and budgets of international visitors.

The best time to visit Thailand generally falls between November and February, during the cool and dry season, offering pleasant temperatures ideal for exploring cities like Bangkok and beaches in Phuket. This period is peak season, meaning higher hotel prices and more crowds, which is important for travellers from the US, Europe, and India planning around school holidays. The hot season runs from March to May, followed by the rainy season from June to October, which can bring lower prices and fewer tourists, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious travellers.

Before departing for Thailand, international visitors should prepare a few essentials. The local currency is the Thai Baht (THB), and while USD is accepted in some tourist establishments, it's best to exchange currency or withdraw from ATMs upon arrival. Purchasing a local SIM card at the airport is straightforward and affordable, providing easy access to data for navigation and communication. Essential apps include Grab for transport, Google Maps for navigation, and a translation app. Beyond passports, ensure you have copies of important documents and consider travel insurance, especially for travellers from the US, Europe, India, and Africa.

Visa Information

Entry Requirements for Thailand

Visa requirements for Thailand vary significantly by nationality, impacting travellers from the US, Europe, India, and Africa differently. US passport holders typically enjoy visa-free entry for tourism for up to 30 days. Similarly, most European passport holders (e.g., from the UK, Germany, France) are granted visa-free entry for similar durations. Indian passport holders are generally required to obtain a visa, which can often be a Visa on Arrival (VOA) or an e-visa, with specific conditions and durations. For many African passport holders, such as those from Nigeria, Kenya, or South Africa, obtaining a visa in advance from a Thai embassy or consulate is often mandatory, with varying requirements and processing times.

The application process for Thai visas, where required, typically involves submitting a completed application form, a valid passport with at least six months of remaining validity, passport-sized photographs, and proof of onward travel (such as a return flight ticket). Some nationalities, particularly from certain African countries, may also need to provide proof of sufficient funds (e.g., bank statements) or an invitation letter. Fees for visas vary, but can range from USD 30 to USD 60, and it's crucial to check the exact requirements with the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in your home country, as these can change. Travel insurance is also highly recommended for all visitors. cheap hotels

It is imperative for all international travellers to verify the latest visa regulations directly with the official immigration authority of Thailand or the nearest Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate before making travel arrangements. Visa policies are subject to change, and adherence to current requirements is essential for smooth entry. While Traveloka's book flight service can assist with travel plans
