Independent (SPHC) THE MANHATTAN AT TIMES SQUARE by IHG, an IHG Hotel

One of the worst hotels we've stayed in New York. The website pictures are NOT a representation of the actual rooms. The room was so outdated and dirty. The curtains were covered in dirt. The shower curtain had mold all along the bottom. The lobby unbenounced to us was under construction. A real disappointment

Our room and floor had not been renovated yet. While the room was clean as possibly could be, the carpet, walls, furniture, and bathroom were very tired and worn. There was no A/C unit and our room was rather warm. I assume there is central a/c for the building that was not on yet? I never saw or heard about the business center or fitness center that are pictured on the website. Once the hotel is completely renovated, I would stay again due to the location and friendly staff. I recommend making sure you book a renovated room.

We stayed there because it was close to the theater where we saw a play. It has a parking garage in the basement, which is a huge plus. They offer a continental breakfast, while we prefer a hot meal. There is a big problem with elevator capacity: we were on the 6th floor, and on the morning we left, only two elevators were running, and those two went to the top of the building before coming down, so they were full when they got to the 6th floor, and we couldn't get on. So we rode the up elevator to the 22nd floor, and then rode down to the lobby level, and again the elevator was totally full.

Elevator nearly killed my colleague

This hotel was so very loud. The walls are paper thin and you can hear people talking as if they’re directly outside if your door all through the night. I genuinely could not sleep because of this. The lights went on and off at odd times as well. It was slightly too expensive for what you get, even on Times Square. There are no amenities either.

“City View” was another building taller than ours so looking in others rooms and office spaces. The place was under construction, the ice and water dispensers do not work I tried so many floors, the front desk gave me a specific floor to try, the issues in our unit were resolved same day so no complaints there, TV could not be changed off of theTV guide.

I recently stayed at Manhattan at Times Square and found it to be a mixed experience. On one hand, the location is a major highlight—with its central proximity to theaters, restaurants, and the hustle and bustle of New York City, everything is literally at your doorstep. Maybe I expected too much at $250 a night, so several aspects of the stay left much to be desired. The furniture feels outdated and the brown carpet gives off a distinctly 1970s vibe. The décor hasn’t been refreshed, and it detracts from an otherwise modern urban setting. The to-go breakfast was underwhelming. You only received one fruit, one pastry, and a single drink (with the choice being limited to either water or coffee, not both). This minimalist approach might leave early risers feeling a bit shortchanged. An unexpected drawback was the daily visits from a repair person, who repeatedly asked if we were leaving. This persistent inquiry quickly became a nuisance rather than a helpful gesture. This stay might work well for travelers who prioritize location above all else, but there is significant room for improvement if the hotel wishes to elevate the guest experience.

It should be noted this hotel doesnt have air conditioning in the winter months, including April. It was cool outside (30s), and the room was still very warm. Their solution was to open the window, in a loud, buzzing city or provide a fan.

IHG has begun renovation of the property. We booked an updated room and we’re upgraded to a junior suite. Both rooms were clean and updated but, the junior suite was much better value! Hotel staff was great and were friendly! Rooms were a bit warm but windows did open enough to cool the room to a very comfortable temperature. Will go back in 2026 to see the new lobby and complete renovation.

I love the Manhattan at Times Square. It is in a safe, convenient location to everything in Midtown !!

We stayed 4 nights here, the first night, after we checked in and settled down

I stayed at The Manhattan at Times Square for 6 nights in March. Location - very convenient walking distance to Times Square and many subway stations. Safe location and easy to find. Walking distance to 5th AVE and Central Park. Very close to the MOMA. Staff- VERY friendly, helpful and accommodating. The security guard Edith had food suggestions for us and was very helpful when we had complaints about our room status. The manager Naval was very accommodating and upgraded us to another room when our concerns were not initially met the previous day. Cons- our original room was located on the 14th floor. The room itself was “clean” but there was leftover food hidden on the windowsill that was never taken by housekeeping. After telling two staff members of the food, nothing was done and we spoke to the manager Naval who changed our room. -non-upgraded rooms are very old, stains on the floor, old carpet/furniture/window shades -water gets VERY hot with minimal control in the sink -no air conditioning and windows are not supposed to open so room get stuffy -there are filtered water stations in each floor, but many floors are empty or need service -I saw a cockroach crawling near the water dispenser -doors slam very loudly when closed -renovations Pros -location can not beat how close you are the everything -helpful staff -upgraded rooms are VERY nice. Marble counters in bathroom, upgraded wallpaper, new carpet (all rooms will be upgraded per staff)

The view from room is very nice, you can see the city from your bed, the staff are excellent, just no refrigerator in the room so i need to ask them and they put in my room but over all its very nice and comfy place, near from the times square love it !!

They don’t have tap water over 10 hours

The lobby is under construction, so there was no dining, just grab and go breakfast. Rooms need updating. The room was clean, and staff and service were excellent.

Room had a 2 inch gap under the door. Very noisy and could feel the air draft. Had to put a rolled up towel to block the area. The water pressure in the bathroom was slow. Night time, faucet was literally a dribble of water. Temperature was warm, not hot. They also forgot to give us hand soap twice. No hand lotion. Shampoo was running low. Overall, not a great hotel, despite the location and being close to Times Sq, the only plus.
