Hotel service so impressive. They also provide breakfast to take away and it's not only noodle or rice. There are 3 boxes: 1 box for appetizer (egg, banana, yogurt), 1 box for heavy meal (fried noodle/fried rice) and 1 box for dessert (cakes/buns). Hotel staff always try their best eventhough language barrier. Welcome drink provided and it's nice. Room spacious, clean, and comfortable. Really recommended for tourists.

The overall services are good, from the shuttle bus from HCMC, quick check-in, good food at the restaurant, pool for kids, many places for photo shooting, clean and comfy rooms, my kid liking the corridor way. There are many nice places internally. We also ate out for one dinner at a nearby seafood place, taking a taxi for 10 minutes. Good short 1 night stay for family with kids.

More about hotels in Vietnam

Vietnam: A Journey Through Culture, Coastlines, and Culinary Delights

Vietnam draws international travellers with a compelling blend of ancient traditions and dynamic modernity, offering an experience distinct from anything found closer to home. For visitors from the United States and Europe, the allure lies in its rich history, breathtaking landscapes that range from emerald rice paddies to dramatic karst formations, and a culinary scene that is both accessible and profoundly flavourful. Cities like Hanoi, with its labyrinthine Old Quarter, and the coastal charm of Nha Trang provide captivating entry points into this Southeast Asian jewel, promising a journey filled with discovery and sensory engagement.

The sheer diversity across Vietnam is a significant draw, ensuring that each region offers a unique flavour of the country. Hanoi, the capital, immerses you in a range of colonial architecture, bustling street life, and a deep sense of history. In contrast, Nha Trang presents a more relaxed, beach-centric atmosphere, ideal for unwinding by the turquoise waters of the South China Sea. Choosing between these destinations, or venturing further afield, fundamentally shapes the pace and focus of your Vietnamese adventure, catering to different interests and travel styles.

For the international traveller, Vietnam presents an exceptional value proposition. With an average starting price of just USD 8.61 per night and an impressive overall review score of 8.6 from over 2.4 million guest reviews, the country offers an accessible gateway to Southeast Asia. This affordability is particularly attractive to travellers from India, who often seek destinations that balance cost with quality experiences, as well as to budget-conscious explorers from the US and Europe looking to stretch their travel budgets further without compromising on comfort or authenticity.

Vietnam's accommodation landscape is as varied as its geography, offering options to suit every preference and budget. From family-friendly resorts like the Centara Mirage Resort Mui Ne, which boasts extensive amenities for all ages, to the well-appointed Premier Pearl Hotel Vung Tau, known for its excellent service and prime location, there is a place to stay for everyone. These properties exemplify the quality and range available, making it easier than ever to book hotel stays that enhance your exploration of this captivating nation.

Ultimately, Vietnam caters to a broad spectrum of international visitors. American travellers often seek the adventure and cultural immersion that its diverse landscapes and historical sites provide. European travellers are drawn to its rich history, colonial past, and the opportunity to explore ancient temples and vibrant cities. For Indian travellers, Vietnam offers a blend of cultural similarities, delicious cuisine, and excellent value, with many finding it a convenient and welcoming destination. Travellers from Africa, particularly those from neighbouring regions, may find Vietnam an accessible and increasingly popular choice for its unique cultural offerings and growing tourism infrastructure.

Best Areas to Stay in Vietnam

Vietnam's diverse geography and rich cultural tapestry mean that choosing where to stay significantly shapes your travel experience. From the bustling metropolises of the north to the serene beaches of the south, each region offers a distinct atmosphere and set of attractions. Understanding these differences is key for international visitors planning their itinerary, ensuring they select a base that aligns with their interests, whether that be historical exploration, culinary adventures, or relaxation by the sea.

Hanoi

Hanoi, Vietnam's capital, offers a captivating immersion into the country's historical and cultural heart. The atmosphere is a vibrant mix of old and new, with ancient temples and pagodas coexisting alongside French colonial architecture and bustling modern streets. European travellers, in particular, will appreciate the historical depth and the tangible echoes of colonial influence. The city's energetic pace, characterized by the constant hum of motorbikes and the lively street food scene, provides an authentic introduction to Vietnamese urban life that appeals to many international visitors.

From Hanoi, iconic landmarks like the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the Temple of Literature, and the serene Hoan Kiem Lake are easily accessible. The Old Quarter, a maze of narrow streets each historically dedicated to a specific trade, is a must-explore. For travellers arriving from abroad, Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) serves as the primary gateway, with connections from major hubs in Europe and Asia. While direct flights from the US are rare, connections through cities like Seoul, Tokyo, or Dubai are common. Exploring the city's attractions is best done on foot or by using ride-hailing apps like Grab.

Nha Trang

Nha Trang, a coastal city in the south, offers a stark contrast to Hanoi's urban intensity, presenting a more relaxed, beach-focused holiday experience. Its long, sandy beaches, clear waters, and offshore islands make it a popular destination for those seeking sun, sea, and water sports. The vibe here is decidedly more laid-back, appealing to travellers from India and Africa looking for a seaside escape, as well as European and American tourists wanting to unwind after exploring the country's interior. The city's promenade is lined with resorts, restaurants, and bars, creating a lively yet accessible beachfront atmosphere. Use Traveloka to book attractions — book attractions.

Key attractions in and around Nha Trang include the Po Nagar Cham Towers, ancient relics offering a glimpse into Vietnam's Cham heritage, and the Vinpearl Land amusement park accessible via a scenic cable car. For divers and snorkelers, the nearby islands offer vibrant coral reefs. Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR) serves Nha Trang, with domestic connections from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. International travellers often connect through major Asian hubs. Once in the city, local buses and taxis are readily available, and booking attractions like island tours is straightforward through local agencies or online platforms.

Hoi An

Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage site, transports visitors back in time with its remarkably preserved Ancient Town. This charming city, once a bustling trading port, is characterized by its lantern-lit streets, yellow-hued merchant houses, and Japanese Covered Bridge. The atmosphere is distinctly romantic and cultural, making it a favourite for European travellers drawn to its historical significance and aesthetic beauty. For Indian families, its pedestrian-friendly streets and unique crafts offer a delightful and safe environment for exploration, while American tourists often appreciate its photogenic charm and artisanal offerings.

The Ancient Town itself is the main draw, with its tailor shops, art galleries, and traditional Vietnamese architecture. Nearby, visitors can explore the An Bang beach for a dose of sun and sea, or take a cooking class to delve into Vietnamese cuisine. The closest airport is Da Nang International Airport (DAD), approximately 45 minutes away by car. Direct flights from Europe or the US are uncommon; travellers typically connect through Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, or other major Asian hubs. From Da Nang, private transfers or taxis are the most convenient way to reach Hoi An, and booking local tours to the My Son Sanctuary is highly recommended.

Da Lat

set in the Central Highlands, Da Lat offers a refreshing escape with its cool climate, pine forests, and French colonial architecture. Known as the "City of Eternal Spring," it provides a different pace and scenery compared to Vietnam's coastal or northern cities. The rolling hills, flower gardens, and serene lakes create a picturesque setting that appeals to couples and nature lovers. Travellers from India and Africa might find the cooler climate a welcome change, while American and European visitors often appreciate its unique landscape and relaxed atmosphere, reminiscent of European hill stations.

Da Lat's attractions include the Xuan Huong Lake, the Valley of Love, and numerous waterfalls like Datanla and Pongour. The city is also famous for its French villas and the unique architecture of the Crazy House. Lien Khuong Airport (DLI) serves Da Lat, with domestic flights from major Vietnamese cities. International travellers will need to connect through Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. Getting around Da Lat is best done by motorbike taxi or car, and the scenic train ride to Trai Mat offers a charming way to see the surrounding countryside. This region is perfect for those looking to book attractions that involve natural beauty and outdoor activities.

Phu Quoc Island

Phu Quoc Island, located in the Gulf of Thailand, is Vietnam's largest island and a premier destination for beach lovers and those seeking a tropical getaway. With pristine white-sand beaches, clear turquoise waters, and lush jungle interiors, it offers a classic island destination experience. The island's development has focused on tourism, providing a range of resorts and activities that cater to international visitors. Travellers from India and Africa looking for a relaxing beach holiday, as well as American and European tourists seeking sun and water sports, will find Phu Quoc an appealing choice.

Popular activities on Phu Quoc include swimming, snorkeling, diving, and exploring the island's national park. Sao Beach and Long Beach are renowned for their beauty, while the night market offers a taste of local seafood and culture. Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC) receives direct flights from some Asian cities and domestic flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. For international travellers, connecting through these major hubs is necessary. Getting around the island is typically done via motorbike rental or taxi, and many resorts offer shuttle services to key areas.

Mui Ne & Phan Thiet

Mui Ne and Phan Thiet, located on the southeastern coast, are renowned for their dramatic sand dunes and wind-swept beaches, making them a unique destination within Vietnam. Mui Ne is particularly famous for its red and white sand dunes, offering opportunities for sandboarding and stunning sunrise or sunset views. This area attracts adventure seekers and those looking for a different kind of coastal experience. European and American travellers often come for the kite-surfing and wind-surfing opportunities, while Indian travellers might appreciate the visual spectacle and the chance for unique photography.

Beyond the dunes, Mui Ne offers attractions like the Fairy Stream (Suoi Tien), a shallow stream flowing through colourful rock formations, and the fishing village, providing a glimpse into local life. Phan Thiet city itself has historical sites and a bustling market. The nearest major airport is Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) in Ho Chi Minh City, from which travellers can take a bus or private transfer to Mui Ne, a journey of about 4-5 hours. While there are no direct international flights to this region, the accessibility from Ho Chi Minh City makes it a popular addition to many itineraries. Booking tours to the sand dunes is a common activity for visitors.

This type of accommodation is ideal for those planning longer stays or who prefer to have their own living areas and kitchens. Resorts in Vietnam: All-In-One Stays

This makes them perfect for travellers who wish to relax and unwind without needing to venture far from their accommodation. From beachfront properties to mountain retreats, Vietnamese resorts cater to various preferences. They are particularly popular with families and couples from the US and Europe seeking a hassle-free holiday where everything is taken care of, from dining to recreation.

Apartments & Service Apartments in Vietnam — Best for Extended Stays

Apartments and service apartments in Vietnam are an excellent choice for travellers planning to stay for three nights or more, offering the flexibility and convenience of a home away from home. These accommodations typically include kitchen facilities, separate living areas, and laundry services, which are invaluable for longer trips. They are particularly suited for families or business travellers who appreciate the ability to prepare their own meals and have more personal space. This category provides a practical and often cost-effective solution for extended visits.

This property could appeal to families or groups from the US and Europe looking for a comfortable, well-equipped base in Vung Tau.

Guest Houses, B&Bs & Lodges in Vietnam

These smaller establishments are typically run by local families, offering a warm welcome and personalized service that larger hotels cannot replicate. They are suited to travellers who want authentic interactions and a deeper connection with the destination. Visitors from India and Africa, who often value community and personal relationships, may find these accommodations particularly appealing for their genuine hospitality.

A Culinary Journey Through Vietnam's Flavours

Vietnam's culinary landscape is a vibrant exploration of fresh ingredients, delicate spices, and diverse regional influences, offering a delightful adventure for international palates. From the aromatic pho broth to the crispy banh mi, each dish tells a story of history and local tradition. The emphasis on fresh herbs, balanced flavours, and visually appealing presentation makes Vietnamese food a standout in global cuisine, promising a memorable gastronomic experience for travellers from the US, Europe, India, and Africa alike.

Iconic dishes like 'pho', a fragrant noodle soup, and 'banh mi', a flavourful baguette sandwich, are essential tasting experiences. Don't miss 'bun cha', grilled pork with noodles, famously enjoyed by President Obama and Anthony Bourdain in Hanoi, or 'cao lau', a regional noodle dish unique to Hoi An. For seafood lovers, the coastal cities offer an abundance of fresh catches prepared in myriad ways. Vietnamese coffee, particularly 'ca phe sua da' (iced coffee with condensed milk), is a must-try for its rich, intense flavour. For Muslim travellers from India and Africa, finding Halal options is becoming easier, especially in larger cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, where dedicated Halal restaurants and Muslim-friendly eateries are increasingly available, often serving dishes prepared according to Islamic dietary laws.

Regional variations in Vietnamese cuisine are significant and add another layer to the culinary exploration. Northern Vietnam, exemplified by Hanoi, features more subtle and refined flavours, with dishes like 'cha ca' (turmeric fish with dill) and 'bun thang' (noodle soup with shredded chicken and egg). Central Vietnam, particularly around Hue, is known for its imperial cuisine, characterized by intricate presentation and a balance of spicy, sour, and salty tastes, with dishes like 'bun bo Hue' (spicy beef noodle soup). Southern Vietnamese cuisine, influenced by its tropical climate, tends to be sweeter and uses more coconut milk and fresh herbs, with popular dishes like 'hu tieu' (noodle soup) and various Mekong Delta specialties.

Dining in Vietnam is an accessible and affordable affair for international visitors. Street food is a cornerstone of the culinary experience, offering delicious meals for as little as USD 1-3. Restaurant prices vary, with mid-range options typically costing USD 10-20 per person. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service, usually around 5-10%. Meal times are generally flexible, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner being common. Understanding basic Vietnamese phrases for ordering can be helpful, though many vendors and restaurants cater to international tourists. For travellers from the US and Europe, the emphasis on fresh, often less oily, ingredients might be a pleasant surprise, while Indian travellers may find familiar spices and flavour profiles in certain dishes.

Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Vietnam

Navigating Vietnam's cultural landscape with respect and awareness enhances the travel experience for international visitors. While Vietnamese people are generally welcoming and hospitable, understanding a few key cultural nuances can prevent misunderstandings and foster positive interactions. These norms are particularly important when visiting religious sites or engaging with elders, reflecting a society that values politeness and respect for tradition.

When visiting temples and pagodas, it is customary to dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees, and to remove shoes before entering. Photography is usually permitted, but always be mindful of worshippers and avoid intrusive shots. In homes, it's polite to accept offers of food or drink, and to avoid stepping over people or food. While tourist areas are generally relaxed, showing respect for elders and local customs is always appreciated. In cities like Hanoi and Nha Trang, the pace of life can be fast, but politeness and patience go a long way in interactions.

For practical safety, Vietnam is generally a safe country for tourists. However, petty theft, such as bag snatching, can occur in crowded areas. It's advisable to keep valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in busy markets or on public transport. Ride-hailing apps like Grab are widely available and offer a reliable and transparent way to get around cities, providing a safer alternative to unmetered taxis. Keeping a copy of your passport and visa information separate from the originals is also a good precaution.

In case of emergencies, dial 113 for police, 114 for fire, and 115 for ambulance. For US citizens, the US Embassy is in Hanoi and the Consulate General is in Ho Chi Minh City. European travellers can seek assistance from their respective embassies in Hanoi (e.g., UK, France, Germany). Indian citizens can contact the Embassy of India in Hanoi. For African travellers, key embassies include Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa, all located in Hanoi. Comprehensive travel insurance is highly recommended for all international visitors to cover medical emergencies and other unforeseen events.

Getting to Vietnam and Getting Around

Reaching Vietnam from key international markets involves varying degrees of directness and travel time. For travellers from the United States, direct flights are uncommon, typically requiring a layover in major Asian hubs like Seoul (ICN), Tokyo (NRT), or Hong Kong (HKG), with flight durations often exceeding 18 hours. European travellers from London Heathrow (LHR), Frankfurt (FRA), or Paris (CDG) also usually connect through these same Asian gateways or sometimes via the Middle East, with journeys around 14-16 hours.

Indian travellers from Mumbai (BOM) or Delhi (DEL) can find flights with one stop, often in Bangkok (BKK) or Kuala Lumpur (KUL), taking approximately 7-10 hours. For travellers from Africa, such as Nairobi (NBO) or Johannesburg (JNB), connections are typically through the Middle East or Asia, making the journey longer, often 15-20+ hours. Once your visa is confirmed, you can book flight arrangements to Vietnam.

Navigating Vietnam internally is facilitated by a well-developed transport network. For intercity travel, domestic flights are efficient and relatively affordable, connecting major cities like Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City. The Reunification Express train line offers a scenic, albeit slower, way to travel between these cities, providing a glimpse of the countryside. Long-distance buses are the most budget-friendly option, though comfort levels can vary. For shorter distances within cities, taxis and ride-hailing apps like Grab are readily available and recommended for their convenience and transparent pricing, especially for international visitors.

The best time to visit Vietnam depends on your itinerary and tolerance for weather variations. Generally, the country experiences a monsoon climate, with distinct seasons varying by region. The north (Hanoi) has a cooler winter (December-February) and a hot, humid summer (May-August). Central Vietnam (Da Nang, Hoi An) is best visited from January to August, avoiding the typhoon season from September to November. The south (Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc) has a dry season from December to April and a wet season from May to November, with temperatures consistently warm year-round. Planning around these seasons can help avoid extreme weather and potentially secure better hotel rates.

Before departing for Vietnam, several practical steps are essential for international travellers. The local currency is the Vietnamese Dong (VND), though USD is sometimes accepted in tourist areas, it's best to have local currency for smaller purchases and street food. ATMs are widely available in cities for cash withdrawal. Purchasing a local SIM card upon arrival is inexpensive and provides easy access to data for navigation and communication. Essential apps include Grab for transport, Google Maps for navigation, and a translation app. Beyond your passport, ensure you have any necessary visa documentation and consider travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and trip cancellations.

Vietnam Entry Requirements for International Travellers

Visa requirements for Vietnam vary significantly based on nationality, impacting travellers from the US, Europe, India, and various African nations differently. US passport holders can typically enter Vietnam visa-free for up to 45 days. European passport holders (e.g., UK, Germany, France) also benefit from visa exemptions, usually for stays of up to 45 days. Indian passport holders generally require a visa, which can often be obtained as an e-visa for stays up to 90 days, though specific conditions apply. For African passport holders, particularly from countries like Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa, obtaining a visa is usually mandatory, often requiring an application through a Vietnamese embassy or consulate, with e-visa options sometimes available but subject to stricter criteria and longer processing times.

The application process for a Vietnamese visa typically involves submitting an online application for an e-visa, or applying directly through a Vietnamese embassy or consulate. Required documents often include a passport valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay, a recent passport-sized photograph, and sometimes proof of onward travel or sufficient funds. For certain nationalities, particularly from Africa, additional documentation such as an invitation letter from a Vietnamese sponsor or proof of accommodation may be required. Fees for visas vary by nationality and duration of stay, typically ranging from USD 25 to USD 50 for e-visas, with embassy applications potentially incurring higher costs.

It is crucial for all international travellers to verify the latest visa regulations with the official Vietnamese immigration authority or the nearest Vietnamese embassy or consulate in their home country well in advance of their travel dates, as policies can change. While Traveloka's book flight service can assist with travel plans once entry requirements are met, visa approval is the traveller's responsibility. Processing times can differ; US and European travellers may experience quicker e-visa processing compared to some Indian and African applicants, who might need to allow for extended periods due to more complex requirements.
