What Guests Say About Their Stay

Chloe

We stayed at the Coldra Court Hotel for the first time on a last-minute whim, booking a standard Queen room the night before our wedding. While the entire experience was wonderful, it was Evan at the front desk who made our stay unforgettable. Evan was genuinely warm and friendly. When he asked how our day was, my husband mentioned we had just got married. Without a second thought, Evan surprised us by upgrading us to a beautiful Deluxe room as a complimentary wedding gift and gave us two vouchers for free drinks! It was the nicest surprise and made our special day feel even more magical. Evan possesses a rare, natural hospitality talent. He didn’t just tick the boxes of a standard check-in; he showed genuine emotional intelligence and took the initiative to turn a standard stay into an extraordinary memory. He represents the high standards of The Celtic Collection flawlessly and is exactly who you want representing a hotel front-of-house. Management should be incredibly proud to have him; he is an absolute asset and deserves the highest recognition. The rest of our stay was perfect. The room was beautiful, the food was stunning, and the staff made us feel so special. Because of Evan’s exceptional service, we are already planning our return. Thank you to the team, and a massive thank you to Evan!

The room was beautiful and spotless however some of the furniture was a little worn but it added character. They had the tea and coffee box well stocked and not with just the standard tea and coffee but with the flavoured tea and decaf coffee plus they had shower gel, shampoo and conditioner as well as if you had forgotten anything you could ask for a guest pack (toothpaste, toothbrush, razors etc). On our first day we had and issue with the iron leaking, light blinking and not warming up so contacted reception and a brand new one was delivered to our room immediately. What we weren't made aware of is there was a £50 deposit upon arrival (not including what we had already paid for staying there). The staff are very friendly, they had live entertainment on Saturday night and there's 3 ways to eat at the hotel (room service, Ribs grill and bar food). Thank you for the comfortable stay.

Overall, this was a nice hotel with friendly staff. The room was a decent size, the bed was comfortable, and the grounds were pleasant. The other facilities, although I didn’t use them, also appeared to be of a good standard. I was surprised that the bathroom did not contain a bath, and although the shower was pleasant enough there was plenty of space for a bath to have been available. The biggest disappointment however was being charged an additional £13.50 per night for parking - I don’t recall seeing this anywhere in the listing information or pre-arrival information (although acknowledge I may have overlooked this) but for the price of the room (which is already high) I would expect parking for guests to be included.

All staff I encountered were pleasant, helpful, and approachable throughout my stay. A dip in the hotel pool was extremely welcome during the current heatwave. I found it very relaxing, with plenty of room for swimming. The room itself was pleasant and spacious; however, I was disappointed that there was no air conditioning, although a fan was provided in the wardrobe. There were also no plug sockets near the bed and no USB or USB-C charging outlets in the room, which is something most hotels now tend to offer. Unfortunately, I found the bed extremely uncomfortable, which resulted in a couple of disturbed nights’ sleep.

We stayed one night in the deluxe suite. The suite was lovely, very spacious but I noticed some things that let it down which I wouldn’t have expected from the Celtic Manor brand such as, stain on the sofa in the living room, marks on the paint work, two lamps were not working in the living room. The bed was nice but it wasn’t a super king, it was two beds together so there was an uncomfortable ridge down the middle. There was no complimentary water in the room, only chargeable! Also, no blinds in the suite which meant as the windows were floor length, anyone outside can see straight in! The facilities were ok, the gym had the heating on in 30 degree heat which was ridiculous! The pool was very small with dirty grouting and the windows looked as though they hadn’t been cleaned in ages! The breakfast selection was ok, but the sausages, bacon, potatoes were so dry I couldn’t eat them. Overall, I think the property is slightly tired and needs some tlc… and I must say, I was astounded that were were charged for parking when it was in their property… all in all 6/10.

Hotel was nice and staff were friendly. The spa was closed (main reason for booking) and only found out during check in, however we able to use the spa facilities at their neighbor hotel at The Celtic Manor Resort, which is a gorgeous resort and we got to use the facilities on check in day and after check out too! Was a nice weekend overall.

I was very underwhelmed by this hotel. We just ate in the bar and my pizza was covered in garlic mayonnaise which was disgusting to be honest. One of the mattress in the room (we stayed in a twin) was very noisy, old and mobile and kept us awake when moving at night. The staff were nice but the hotel is basic
