Excellent hotel, in a very good location, close to everything. The maintenance of one of the just two elevators was a real pain. Everything else, was very good.

This was actually a two night stay - two separate, sequential reservations - which the staff dealt with just fine on check-in, though despite getting my keys renewed first thing on Day 2, the keys still did not work when I got back to my room - first world problems! Biggest issue was that the hotel only had one working lift (elevator) for ten floors - you can imagine how busy that one elevator was! Breakfast was OK, though the eggs benedict was luke-warm rather than hot. Decent continental breakfast selection, but mini-croissants were not fresh, and there was a distinct lack of any fresh bread (only sliced bread for toasting) - a few baguettes would make a difference! The room was pretty spacious and comfortable and reasonably quiet. It looked a little tired in places, but nothing too troubling. The staircase used in place of the elevator service was somewhat grubby in places and not what would be expected of a 4* hotel. The exit/entry off Calton Road is a bonus for easy access to Edinburgh Waverley Station. The gym, although small in size, was well-equipped with free weights, and the steam room in the spa was a real bonus.

This place was one of the worst properties we visited while in England. Lets start with the rooms, the AC didnt work and the shower leaked all over the floor and ruined our luggage. You could tell this is an on going issue because the base boards were all swollen up and in bad shape. No wash clothes in the room either. The lifts are dangerous, the lift starts moving before the door is closed. We had to pay an additional 15 pounds for breakfast per person. Our dinner at the restaurant was also terrible, over priced and our food was terrible.

Room was boiling hot as the aircon didn’t work. I only realised this when I woke up. Told receptionist on check out and got the old “you should have come down and told us”. It’s not a big deal I was just letting them know. Just the lack of empathy or apology when this happens is a bit irritating. On the whole it’s a nice hotel. The pool is small. I managed to swim a bit but it’s about 5 strokes a full length. I wouldn’t stay for the pool if you want exercise. Location is great for the station

The Apex proved to be a great hotel choice while in Edinburgh. A close walk to the Royal Mile and literally above the train station made it very convenient to site see and then catch the train to London. The hotel felt very safe and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was excellent. All of the staff extremely friendly. Our room was a triple and was very large by European standards. A large bed, a pull out bed (comfortable) and a sofa too. The bathroom actually had a US style shower so that was nice. Overall we would return to this hotel if we were to return to Edinburgh.
