Pleiku is a city in central Vietnam, located in the country's plateau region. It is the capital city of Gia Lai. A few years ago, it was inhabited primarily by Bahnar and Jarai ethnic groups, also known as Montagnards or Degar. Now, it is inhabited primarily by Kinh ethnic groups. This town is the centre of the Pleiku region covering an area of 261 sq km. In 2003, this district had a population of 186,763. The city is at the crossroads of several national roads to Kon Tum in the North and Buon Ma Thuot in the South and National Route 19 to Stoeng Treng in the West to Cambodia through Ratanakiri Region and Binh Dinh region in the East. Pleiku Airport is a regional airport located near Pleiku town in Gia Lai district, Southern Vietnam. Pleiku Airport was a not well-built airport when it was built by the Vietnam Air Force in December 1962. The Pleiku Airport was used as the Air Base 62. Pleiku Airport was expanded and developed further during the Vietnam War and became the main air base for The Republic of Vietnam Air Force and the United States Air Force. After 1975, this Pleiku Airport has developed into a public airport. 1. Minh Thanh Pagoda - This pagoda is located at 14A Nguyen Viet Xuan Street, Phu Hoi Ward, Pleiku city, Gia Lai district. About 2 km from the Pleiku (Gia Lai) city centre. Minh Thanh Pagoda is a Buddhist architecture complex located in the vast hills of the city's Southwest. In 1964, this pagoda began to be built by Venerable Thich Giac Dao. Since then, the pagoda has become a place of worship and Buddhist performances in the region. With time, the pagoda architecture began to decline. Thus, in 1997, the pagoda was restored.
2. Sea Lake – When visiting Tay Nguyen, most visitors want to enjoy the beauty of Bien Ho or Sea Lake which is considered a "pearl" in Pleiku Square, Gia Lai area. Bien Ho, also known as T'Nung and Ia Nueng is located at Bien Ho Commune, about 6 km North of Pleiku. Covering 250 hectares with an average depth of 18 meters, Bien Ho is an oval-shaped crater that has been destroyed millions of years ago. The name Bien Ho comes from the surface of a lake that looks like a sea. A legend says that the lake is named T'Nung because it is the name of an ancient village where villagers live happily together.
3. Dong Xanh Cultural park - This park covers an area of 8 hectares. It opened in late 1999. Nha rong run, and Central Highlands statues are featured in this area. There are many types of flowers and trees in the Central Highlands planted in this park.
