Takamatsu is a city located in Kagawa Prefecture. It is located on Shikoku Island in Japan. Takamatsu is also the centre of the provincial capital of the province. Takamatsu Metropolitan Area has a population of 838,788 in 2005 making it the largest city in Shikoku. Shionoe town of Kagawa district was included in Takamatsu on September 26, 2005. Two cities from Kita district, Aji city and Mure city were also absorbed in Takamatsu on January 10, 2006.

Takamatsu Airport is a second class airport located 15 km Southwest of Takamatsu, Kagawa, Japan. It operates a small number of international flights. On January 16, 2013, All Nippon Airways Boeing 787 aircraft made an emergency landing at Takamatsu Airport due to a battery problem in flight. Most aircraft arriving and departing from Takamatsu Airport are All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Japan Airlines (JAL) flights. JAL usually uses Boeing 737-800 aircraft while ANA uses Boeing 787-8, 767-300 and Boeing 777-200 for their domestic routes. Both airlines operate passengers from Takamatsu Airport to Haneda Airport. However, other airlines like Asiana Airlines operate passengers to the airport such as Incheon International Airport in South Korea. Takamatsu Airport has one terminal consisting of four gate.
