Central Private Hotel

This hotel fell far below expectations. There were no basic bathroom amenities in the room — shampoo was only provided if you asked at the front desk, and there was no conditioner. The building has no elevator, so we had to carry our luggage upstairs. Only one old‑style key was issued, and if you forget it, you’re locked out with no staff around to help. When we arrived at 1:30pm, a sign on the door told us to call a local number to check in, which we couldn’t do, so we waited about 15 minutes until someone happened to return. The area felt rundown, with warning signs about robberies and homeless individuals outside. Extra charges were excessive, including a $1,700 fine if steam from the shower triggers the fire alarm and $40 per hour for late checkout. The beds were also extremely soft with no support. The location is the only positive, but it doesn’t make up for the outdated facilities, lack of service, and overall poor value. I recommend staying elsewhere.

Great convenient location near Central and Surry Hills. Affordable. No frills. Friendly front desk. There should be a way to open and leave open the shared toilet room.

Firstly, please note this is a budget hotel. If you're looking for a plush room with all the facilities, hotel reception areas, a bar and restaurant, this isn't the place for you. If you're looking for a basic (hence lower cost) room, that's clean and has comfortable bed(s); this may be the place for you. The staff were friendly & helpful and the hotel is situated in a great central location, ideal for using Sydney's public transport.

Dirty sheets;no milk with tea/coffee; only a sink as the basin i.e. shaving, handwashing post toilet and dish washing in the same basin; shower so close to toilet, its spray collected under toilet and meant exited shower onto toilet; only one soap and one towel; housekeeping only once in three nights despite reception saying it is daily and did not make bed; very noisy with thin walls so could hear neighbours and movement above; exiting the hotel on day 2 and I was met by police coming in (no member of staff with them); people living in the hotel, not guests, attract the police attending; on day 1, laundry from hotel strewn across footpath.

Clean room, extremely helpful staff. Even though an old building, it is well kept. Only down side for an older person is the stairs.

The room was spotless and the staff were all courteous.

The staff was good and helpful, but the room is in a very old condition, and the bathroom looks like public toilets, has no privacy at all, shared between both genders males and females

All staff were great, so friendly, efficient and respectful. It was so quiet and clean and comfy. Great value for the location, for central station for trains regional and local, metro station, and trams, light rail and buses.

Good clean rooms, however misused my phone number to send unneeded texts about che k out times at 10am. One beingafter i checked in and one at 9am. Overvoard and unwarented.

The shower and toilet were actually dangerous. It was incredibly noisy and the stairs we had to take our cases up to get to the room were horrible.

Room was good and staff helpful

Superb. You get what you paid for. Basic but very clean and tidy.
