Whiskey Lounge with great soft couches! That was fun with a really knowledgeable lady serving drinks. Rooms were very clean and this older hotel still looks and feels comfortable and quiet. It's not made of paper mache so you don't hear everyone next door or in the hallway.

The morning breakfast staff need a review in customer service. They embarrassed a family who made the error of sitting at a reserved table at 0945hrs. All the designated breakfast tables were occupied at the time. They told them to move as though this was a huge problem. The next paying customer were due at 1100hrs. They didn’t need to make a big deal about it. The staff are taking their job far too seriously- they should be smiling and cheerful with customers and make the morning feel special.

The room was clean and well stocked. Checking in was fast and easy. We went into the lounge which is also a whiskey bar. We had a very friendly and helpful Barman who gave us a flight of Islay whiskey. He was very knowledgeable. Next was dinner in the outside portion of the dinning room. We had a nice dinner with paired wine. The salad, crab cake and calamari were very good. I also had the short ribs that were very tasty. After a long day, we had a great evening. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room and beds were comfortable. We will be back next time we visit Nanaimo.

I had much higher expectations for this hotel. The pictures make it seem much more elegant and private than it really is. On the plus side, it was very clean and the rooms were very large. On the negative side, our room stated we were to have a garden view—we overlooked the parking lot and the many condos surrounding the property. When we inquired about this we were told no rooms are garden view even though our reservation lists garden view as one of the room highlights. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed for an event which was another disappointment as we were looking forward to eating there. The staff was not welcoming. Perhaps they were occupied with the event that was starting soon. The decor and furniture could use some updating. It was a disappointing stay and we will not be returning.

Only two bath towels in room. Front desk clerk displayed aggressive attitude to issues encountered. Ice kept behind bar and not accessible. Continental breakfast $25 for 2.
