The hotel is luxurious and very nice. This hotel is more than just a place to stay; you can also stroll around the garden for a bit of relaxation. The view is beautiful, and the air here tends to be cool, making it even more cozy. It's very refreshing and fun here, and the hospitality here is undeniable. The rooms are clean and tidy, with complete amenities, and basic facilities are very well-equipped (plenty of complimentary snacks and drinks too). I personally highly recommend this hotel for a short escape and a refreshing break.

More about hotels in Bandung

Guide to Staying in Bandung

Bandung is the capital of West Java and Indonesia's third-largest city, set in a highland basin surrounded by volcanic peaks and tea-covered hills. Known as the "Paris of Java" since colonial times for its European-inspired architecture and vibrant arts scene, Bandung has evolved into one of Indonesia's most popular domestic and international destinations. For Malaysian travellers, Bandung offers a compelling mix of cool highland weather (a welcome break from tropical heat), incredible food, outlet shopping at factory prices, and dramatic natural landscapes — all at prices significantly lower than equivalent experiences in Malaysia. Traveloka makes it easy to browse, compare, and book Bandung hotels that match your style, from hip city-centre hostels to tranquil hillside villas in the northern highlands. With hundreds of properties listed, you are sure to find the perfect base for your Bandung adventure.

Best Areas to Stay in Bandung

Bandung is a large city, and picking the right area can greatly enhance your trip. Here are the main accommodation zones:

Dago / Riau is the most popular area for tourists. This tree-lined district is packed with cafés, restaurants, boutiques, and nightlife. Hotels here range from budget to upscale, and the area is walkable with good Grab access. Properties like Blackbird Hotel Bandung and Moxy Bandung offer stylish stays in this vibrant neighbourhood.

Pasteur / Setiabudhi leads north towards the highland attractions of Lembang. Hotels here are convenient if you plan to split time between the city and the hills. You will find a mix of mid-range hotels and guesthouses along this corridor.

Ciumbuleuit is a hillside residential area north of the city centre with cooler temperatures and quieter surroundings. Galeri Ciumbuleuit Apartment offers apartment-style stays with city views.

Bandung City Centre (Alun-Alun / Asia Afrika) is the historic heart, close to Gedung Sate, the Great Mosque, and Braga Street's Art Deco buildings. Budget travellers will find hostels like Peta Hostel Bandung and SimplyCity Hostel Syariah here.

Lembang / North Bandung is the highland area about 15 km north of the city, home to Tangkuban Perahu volcano, floating markets, and farmstays. Staying here puts you close to nature, though you will need transport to reach the city centre. Sari Ater Kamboti Hotel is well-positioned in this zone.

Bandung Hotel Prices

Bandung offers exceptional value across all accommodation tiers. Here is a price guide in Ringgit Malaysia:

Budget hostels and guesthouses: RM 20 – RM 80 per night. Dormitory beds and basic private rooms with Wi-Fi and air conditioning. Perfect for solo backpackers and budget-conscious pairs.

Mid-range hotels: RM 80 – RM 250 per night. Comfortable rooms with breakfast, swimming pools, and often excellent design. Hotels like Fox Harris City Center Bandung, Novena Hotel, and Geary Hotel Bandung represent great value in this range.

Boutique and upscale hotels: RM 250 – RM 600 per night. Designer properties with unique character, rooftop bars, and spa services. Moxy Bandung is a standout option at this level.

Highland villas and resorts: RM 150 – RM 500 per night. Multi-bedroom villas in the Lembang area with gardens, mountain views, and sometimes hot spring access. Ideal for families and groups.

Prices rise during Indonesian school holidays (June–July, December) and long weekends. Booking on Traveloka in advance ensures the best rates and room selection.

Top Things to Do in Bandung

Tangkuban Perahu Volcano: This active volcano about 30 km north of Bandung lets you walk up to the crater rim and peer into steaming sulphur vents. Entry costs approximately RM 15 for international visitors. The temperature at the summit is noticeably cool.

Kawah Putih (White Crater): A stunning turquoise volcanic crater lake about 50 km south of Bandung. The ethereal landscape makes for extraordinary photographs. Entry is around RM 15, and the area is often shrouded in atmospheric mist.

Factory outlet shopping: Bandung is famous for its factory outlets along Jalan Riau (Dago) and Jalan Setiabudhi, selling branded clothing, bags, and shoes at deep discounts. Malaysian travellers often dedicate a full day to shopping here.

Lembang Floating Market: A family-friendly attraction where you can eat food from boats, ride ponies, feed rabbits, and enjoy the highland scenery. Entry costs about RM 5.

Braga Street: Bandung's most atmospheric boulevard, lined with Art Deco buildings, galleries, and cafés. Evening is the best time to stroll here when the street lights illuminate the colonial facades.

Farmhouse Lembang: A European-themed attraction with a hobbit house, flower gardens, and petting zoo. Popular for Instagram photos and family outings. Entry is approximately RM 8.

Ciwidey tea plantations: The rolling green tea estates south of Bandung offer breathtaking views and tours where you can learn about tea production and sample freshly brewed varieties.

Bandung Food Scene

Bandung is a culinary capital, and food is a major reason Malaysian travellers keep coming back. Signature dishes and experiences include:

Batagor: Deep-fried fish dumplings served with peanut sauce — Bandung's most iconic snack. Look for street vendors near Alun-Alun or along Jalan Burangrang for the most authentic versions.

Mie Kocok: A Bandung-original beef tendon noodle soup with a clear, flavourful broth. This hearty dish costs around RM 5 to RM 10 at local warungs.

Nasi Timbel: Fragrant rice wrapped in banana leaf, served with fried chicken, tempeh, sambal, and lalapan (fresh vegetables). A complete Sundanese meal that costs as little as RM 6.

Surabi: A traditional Sundanese pancake made from rice flour, cooked on a clay pan, and topped with sweet or savoury fillings like chocolate, cheese, or oncom (fermented soybean).

Café culture: Bandung is Indonesia's undisputed café capital. Hundreds of specialty coffee shops and themed cafés are scattered across Dago, Braga, and Ciumbuleuit. Expect creative spaces, excellent single-origin coffee, and Instagram-worthy interiors. A cup of craft coffee costs RM 5 to RM 12.

Street food meals in Bandung cost between RM 4 and RM 15 per person. Restaurant dining ranges from RM 15 to RM 50, making it one of the most affordable food cities in Southeast Asia.

Getting to Bandung from Malaysia

Flights: Husein Sastranegara Airport (BDO) receives direct flights from Kuala Lumpur with airlines including AirAsia. Flight time is approximately 2 hours. From the airport, Grab or taxis to the city centre cost around RM 10 to RM 20.

Via Jakarta: Some travellers fly into Jakarta (CGK) and then take the scenic Argo Parahyangan train to Bandung (about 3 hours). The train ride through the Javanese countryside is enjoyable and tickets cost approximately RM 20 to RM 40.

Getting around Bandung: Grab is the go-to transport option and is extremely affordable. Most city rides cost RM 2 to RM 8. For day trips to Tangkuban Perahu, Kawah Putih, or Ciwidey, hiring a car with a driver for the day costs RM 80 to RM 150 — a practical choice since these attractions are spread apart and not well served by public transport.

Best Time to Visit Bandung

Bandung's highland location gives it pleasantly cool weather year-round, with daytime temperatures of 22°C to 28°C and nights dropping to 17°C to 20°C.

May to September is the dry season. Skies are clearer, volcano craters are more visible, and outdoor activities are most enjoyable. This is the best period for photography at Kawah Putih and Tangkuban Perahu.

October to April is the wet season. Afternoon rain showers are common, and highland roads can be foggy. However, the lush green landscapes are at their most beautiful, and hotel prices are more competitive.

Avoid Indonesian school holiday periods and Lebaran (Eid al-Fitr) week, when Bandung is swamped with domestic tourists. Hotel prices spike, traffic jams worsen, and popular attractions become overcrowded. Weekday visits are always calmer and cheaper than weekends.

Bandung Hotel Booking Tips

Stay in Dago for convenience: If this is your first time in Bandung, the Dago/Riau area gives you the best combination of food, shopping, nightlife, and transport access.

Split city and highland stays: Spend two nights in the city centre for food and shopping, then move to Lembang or Ciwidey for one or two nights of nature and fresh air. This approach lets you experience both sides of Bandung.

Book early for long weekends: Bandung is a favourite weekend destination for Jakarta residents. Prices surge on Friday and Saturday nights during long weekends. Booking two to three weeks ahead on Traveloka helps secure good rates.

Use Traveloka promo codes: Check the Traveloka app's voucher section before completing your booking. Promo codes offering 10–20% off Bandung hotels are frequently available, especially during sale events.

Consider hostels for solo trips: Bandung's hostel scene is vibrant, with social common areas and organised events. Peta Hostel and SimplyCity Hostel Syariah are well-reviewed options for solo travellers.

Pack layers: Bandung's evenings are cool, and highland attractions like Tangkuban Perahu and Kawah Putih can be quite chilly. A light sweater or windbreaker is essential.

Explore beyond the usual spots: While most tourists focus on Dago and Lembang, areas like Janvalla Bandung offer unique boutique experiences off the main tourist trail.

For more Indonesian highland destinations, explore hotels in Telaga Biru or discover accommodation in West Aceh Regency.

The place was luxuriously enough for a mid-end, budget-friendly hotel. It was near the train station, so the accommodation is very accessible. The staff was friendly and there's a fridge deposit counter for those who want to keep their food fresh. Overall acceptable and recommended.
