Hotels in Batu Pahat City Center

The Batu Pahat District is a district in the state of Johor, Malaysia. It lies southeast of Muar, southwest of Kluang, northwest of Pontian, south of Segamat and Tangkak District. The capital of the district is Bandar Penggaram, Batu Pahat. According to the elder people, the name of "Batu Pahat" originated from the well near the Minyak Beku sea side, where the Troops from Thailand has created a water well within rocks at the seaside.

How to Get There

By Plane

If you are traveling by air, nearest airport is Senai International Airport (IATA: JHB, ICAO: WMKJ) also known as Sultan Ismail International Airport, which is an international airport, which located in Senai, Johor. The airport is located about 1 hour and 20 minutes from Batu Pahat.

By Car

The North-South Expressway (PLUS) is the best route to take if you are travelling by car. If you are coming from North, exit from Pagoh and you will be driving through 45 minutes of outskirts before arriving Batu Pahat town. Alternatively, take Yong Peng exit and you will be driving 30 minutes to arrive to Batu Pahat town. This route is more commonly used and has ample road signs. If you are lost, ask any locals. They will be able to help as the route is not that difficult to take.

By Bus

There are many major bus lines that run to Batu Pahat from many major cities including Kuala Lumpur (via TBS Southern Bus Station, commonly known as TBS), Johor Bahru (via Larkin Station), Kuala Terengganu, Ipoh, and Kuantan.

Tourist Attractions

Dataran Penggaram

Used to be known as "padang", as it was the only field in the town. Today, the showpiece of the city is unmissable with its landmark that shows a hammer, chisel and stone, as a representation of the town "Batu Pahat", meaning Stone Chisel. At night, it is lighted up with vibrant colours.

Minyak Beku Sea Side

A sea side with a lighthouse nearby. Though you can't get into the light house, you can enjoy the sea breeze and taste some ais kacang (syrup shaved ice filled with peanuts, corn, beans, etc) tea or coffee at the "warung" (coffee house in Malay). This place has the best quiet and romantic sunset in Batu Pahat. You can see Riau islands which belong to Indonesia, across the waters.
