Kuala Nerus is an area located in Terengganu, Malaysia. The declaration of the Kuala Nerus district as the eighth home of Terengganu was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Sep 18, 2014. On 18 September 2014, Prime Minister Dato 'Seri Mohd Najib bin Abdul Razak announced that Kuala Nerus was a new district in the state of Terengganu and separated from Kuala Terengganu district. This place also lies the Gong Badak Industrial Area which houses various industries that provide various job opportunities.The district is divided into four mukims, which are Batu Rakit, Kuala Nerus Town, Pakoh (Belara) and Redang Island.
From Kuala Lumpur city centre, it takes around 4 hours and 45 minutes to reach Batu Rakit by using E8 route. Even though this is the fastest route, this route has tolls. There are also road options such as by using Segamat- Kuantan highway and North-South highway which takes another 2 hours depend on traffic.
Situated around 24 minutes away, Gong Badak Sports Complex houses Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium which is a multi-purpose stadium in Kuala Nerus District. Together with the adjacent Mini Stadium, it forms the centrepiece of Terengganu Sports Complex. The stadium holds about 50,000 people and is named after the reigning Terengganu Ruler, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin. It is the biggest stadium in the East Coast region of Peninsular Malaysia and was built to replace Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium as the state's main stadium. In 2008, this stadium had became the main venue for Sukma Games 2008.
Redang Island is the biggest of all the islands in the Marine Park measuring about 7 kilometres long and 6 kilometres wide. Its highest peak is Bukit Besar at 359 metres (1,178 feet) above sea level. The boundary of the Pulau Redang Marine Park is established by a line linking all points 2 nautical miles (3.7 km) from the shores of Pulau Redang, Pulau Lima, Pulau Ekor Tebu and Pulau Pinang. The island has become an important conservation site for sea turtles and back then, the economic exploitation of turtle eggs had caused fewer turtles returning to nest on the island. This has led the Terengganu state government to set up the Koperasi Setiajaya Pulau Redang in 1989. It is aimed to develop and manage socio-economic programmes that could improve the livelihood of Pulau Redang locals without endangering its natural resources.
