So far it wasn't bad at all. Hotel and accommodation good but Matahari restaurant served unsatisfactory food and service.
1) During the check in, I was the first at the counter. There were no receptionist at the counter. When the receptionist came out, instead of greeted us, we were not greeted with a smile or any welcome wish. But she acknowledged a guy which she is known (this guy obviously cut queue). I had to wait for 10 minutes till they settled. 2) The room where is stayed is about 500metres to the guard house. no vehicle is allowed in the vicinity of the Resort. We opt for rented a bike but had to park near the guardhouse. For me, when you are on a businesses trip, it is a troublesome for us as we had to walk out and walk in. 3) Security guards are very impolite. Most time when we come back with the bike, we were stopped and harshly they commanded where we are going and said no bikes allowed. we are guess of the hotel. you can treat the tourist better than you treat local guest.
Great hospitality and service!
Stayed in deluxe chalet, full board. - Chalet was big enough but a bit old and tired. - Bedbugs. I got bitten by bedbugs badly at both legs. Hotel must clean and disinfect the beds. - Lunch buffets' options are boring and not worth the price paid. Dinner buffets are much better. - Location is good. Shuttle buses service between resort and Kampung Tekek could be improved. - Restaurant staffs and receptionists are very helpful. - Dive centre staffs are very informative and helpful. - Overall a good trip..
Food nice, accommodation great and friendly staff at restaurants but a little slack when my room not ready until afternoon and I request to clean up room, it is not be done when I came back.
Everything was great here
Need to upgrade the old chalet
The rooms and services are not too bad, but they are quite scattered around the hotel area. Hotel food are so so. Quite far from the town so it isn't too accessible to more food and shops (around 5-10 minutes walk to reach the entrance gate from the hotel lobby, then you can either choose to walk another 15 - 20 minutes across the hill to reach the town or take taxi which cost around RM15 one way).
the resort was quite ok but I having problem with transportation over there. you cannot rent a motorbike and bring inside the resort. you must either walk to main gate or grab a shuttle if you lucky enough and my room is quite far from pool and dining place. if you bring a baby pls consider room near with restaurant nelayan.
Scenery is beautiful. Got coaster ride from Ferry terminal to resort, and vice versa. So convenient. This is my 4th time here. Pool is great, beach is walking distance only. Good

Old but good enough.
Stayed for 2 nights at Berjaya Tioman. All I can say it was a pleasant stay. From start to finish everything went smoothly. Great, comfortable and very punctual ferry services from Tanjung Gemuk- Pulau Tioman-Tanjung Gemuk. Very efficient receptionist that made our check in and check out smoothly done. Absolutely great variety of food served at the breakfast and dinner buffet. Beach front hotel with great view of the ocean, definitely perfect place to enjoy the scenic sunset. The room wasn’t that great, ok but just that. A little bit worn. They definitely need a major upgrade to grab back the glory of the old Berjaya standard. Beware of the sandfly. It’s not the hotels fault. Totally understandable. The insect came from the sand that was brought to Tioman to overcome the coastal erosion. They also need to step up their maintenance work. Long tall grass everywhere especially at the garden in between the chalets. Made the resort appear very shabby.

Beautiful beach but BEWARE of sandflies.
Tioman has beautiful beaches but sandflies are everywhere. They are very tiny! I didn't notice that I am bitten until I saw the marks all over my legs. Then I started having itchy rashes and skin irritations after 2 days bitten. I got bitten the first day I got there, and I stayed for 5 days. Its been a week now, I still have the pain and irritations, even I have put on the relief cream since the day I've got rashes. I am not blaming to Berjaya, but if I was warned earlier at the reception upon arrival, I could have make precautions by putting on insects repellent whenever I go. So, to anyone who is coming to Tioman, please please put on insects repellent before you head out to any of those beaches. Berjaya provides local insect repellent: a drop of dettol + water + curry leaves. Get some from them. Sandflies are everywhere there, not just Berjaya. What about Berjaya: 1. They have free shuttle bus (to/from jetty on day of arrival/departure). 2. About 20 mins walk to Tekek (challenging for bicycle as you need to cross a hill) 3. You can rent a bike or taxi provided by a third party outside from the gate. We bargained the price for a bike at RM 75/day from RM 90/day. And actually there are not many places you explore by bike. We made to Air Batang, and that is it, no more roads. For taxi, its RM30 to Tekek and return, or RM15 one way. 4. We rent another taxi next to the jetty to Juara for RM120 return. You can contact Saiful at +60 16 960 8095 for a ride if you want to explore Juara. I personally quite like Juara as its more peaceful and quiet. There is one interesting place called Driftwood with lots of hammocks! 5. At Berjaya, we went for snorkelling for a day at RM110/pax (6 sites). I've seen one turtle right below me at Coral Island and another turtle and a baby shark at Renggis Island in that trip! 6. Thai restaurant is average, bbq buffet is better than usual buffet. You can always go out for dinner if you are looking for more options. There are a few local restaurants out there by walking distance before the steep hill road. Overall, I think Berjaya is a good place to stay and relax, location wise is great.

Do not stay at this hotel
Avoid this hotel for your own safety and prevent is better than cure.. I stayed in ur hotel during 23.9.17 checked out on 25.9.17..room no 715 My husband and son got a skin infection on 25.9.17 we thought it would go off after few days but it is becoming more serious. We went to see doctor on 27.9.17 and yet to recover till today... Written them email took one week for them to replied me and saying it was sand flies but it is so ridiculous..My family spent not more than 15minutes of our total stay at their beach and ends us it said it was sand-flies..If it is truth as what you claimed then as precaution should have close your beach and your customer service should have warned when customer during check in and prevent people from going to your beach..As I can see too many sandflies claims in this tripadvisor and your only replies it we're doing frequent fogging...That's it.. Due to this we need to spend the same amount of money to see doctors and getting bad itch for more than 2weeks.. Another dangerous thing is their bedside lamp's wiring is totally expose not being taped which giving a short circuit to my finger. The hotel is overpriced..The room is still using old ceiling and furniture..It feels like entering an old house. Conclusion: Pls do not stay in this hotel just opt for other hotel or chalet...They even provide a better service and comfort for your stay. Save your money to stay in other places rather than costing you more money when you have to spent extra at the medical fees.

Average resort in dire need of serious competition
I stayed here with my wife for 5 nights primarily to take advantage of the clear waters surrounding the island (it's a diving and snorkelling paradise). My overall opinion is that I wouldn't recommend staying here, but the lack of competition on the island may make this resort your only option. I've listed the pros and cons from my time at Berjaya (apologies for the length) and hope it helps other travellers to Tioman Island. Pros: - The resort buildings are very unique and provide a holiday atmosphere. The grounds are spacious and kept clean. The resort also provides a large games room that has pool and snooker tables, table football and table tennis. These cost 1-2MYR per game. - The beach surrounding the resort is beautiful and great to swim in and walk around (definitely romantic!). I recommend having dinner at the Thai restaurant to watch the sunset by the beach. - There are 2 swimming pools and 2 children pools. This is great when there are many guests. The water isn't the cleanest but it's still nice to swim in, especially with the ocean view. - The gym is decent, spacious and generally quiet (unsurprisingly). All equipment seemed to be well maintained. Cons: - Customer service prior to arriving was very poor. I booked my stay via Expedia 2 months before arriving. I was aware that Berjaya provided their own ferry transport to the island and decided to contact them (via email) to book two tickets. The resort provided the ferry cost but became unresponsive from then on. I sent several emails in the next month asking whether my tickets were booked or not, but received no response. I then called 3 times for an update, to which I was eventually told that there are no more seats available on the ferry for my departure dates. This caused a major problem for me given that ferry services are rare to the island and require advanced booking. I had to reduce my stay at the resort via Expedia to ensure I can use another ferry service (CataFerry). I did complain to the reception once arriving, explaining the situation entirely, and was surprised to find the customer to my right had the exact same problem. I was further surprised when the reception staff informed me that the resort ferry service was available during my original stay period. However, they were understanding of my situation, and after a little haggling, decided to extend my stay to the original request and provide a ferry service from the island free of charge. Overall, a stressful experience that could have been avoided with prompt communication. - The general staff attitude towards customers is mixed. While the reception staff were friendly, others particularly in the main dinner hall, were not. They never greeted customers once seated and rarely smiled. This doesn't include the Thai restaurant staff though, who were welcoming. - My room was a little run down. It looked decent but I expected a lot more for the price (£66/night). The bathroom was cramped and two power sockets died after 2 days of use. Compare this to Kuala Lumpur hotels, where the same price would provide significantly better quality. I assume the high prices are due to lack of competition. - The scooter transport service was questionable and dangerous. While I didn't use it, I saw others try. Firstly, if you've never ridden a scooter, please practice riding thoroughly on the flat road within the resort. The only road outside the resort is very steep and should not be used as your first experience for riding a scooter. The scooter providers generally don't care about your safety, just your money. I saw someone clearly uncomfortable start 'riding' away without helmets up the hill with the advice 'be careful' by the providers. 2 minutes later, the same customer had to swerve from oncoming traffic (they're mistake) and fell off their scooter. I strongly recommend avoiding the hotel transport service for this reason. - The resort food was bland and expensive. I had stayed in Malaysia a few days already and was already accustomed to their delightful delicacy. However, Berjaya really didn't provide this. Moreover, they charged 2-3 times the typical Malaysian price for their meals. I'd recommend going the resorts Thai restaurant for a good meal. However, the price is still expensive there. My recommendation is to go out to any of the nearby restaurants (although expect some frosty waiters/waitresses). - Activities at the resort were overpriced and unclear. The PADI open water course was 300MYR more expensive than that provided by the Tioman Dive Centre, and provided nowhere near the same quality of training. The snorkelling activity was also disappointing. The sites you see is incredible, but there are no instructions provided on how to use the fins, or what to do if your snorkel gets blocked or misty. The quality of the equipment for both activities were poor. This was another example of the resort and its partners trying to take as much customer money as possible. So more negatives than positives for me, and not a place I can recommend for a long stay. I think the negatives would easily disappear if there were other competitive resorts, and I'm sure that will happen given Tioman's booming tourism.
