Cosy Cove
We were there during the recent Lunar New Year holidays. A big refurbished colonial era seaside bungalow, with 10 rooms. My room was on the first floor. The stairs going up was foreboding, if you slip or fall. It has a double bed, facing the sea. We could see the sea from the bed. The baths/ toilets had glass walls but no exhaust fans. The smell seeps into the room if someone decides to take a poo. The other person would have to sit at the verandah till the air is clear. The soap and shampoo dispenser is outside the bathroom. You have to bring it along to bathe but you have to leave it on the floor as there is no shelf for it. The sitting rooms have enormous chairs but the TV has seen better days. There is no TV in the room. The dining hall is big but the daily breakfast is just bread and butter/jam, with local brewed coffee. Wifi is available. The pool is long but narrow, like a lap pool. Next to the pool is a soggy field, good for mud rugby. Walking to the seaside is like walking through a mini swamp. It is not a sandy beach but a mud beach. It is dangerous to go down to the beach as you would have to climb over some rocks. The rocks are covered with tiny oysters and are dangerous and you might get some serious cuts if you step on them. For this, the hotel should make the beach off limits to guests. Activities you can go for hiking, cultural shows or golf. We wanted to go cycling but only a tandem bicycle was available. For food, you can order food delivery from a nearby restaurant. It is about an hour drive from Kuching or civilisation. Good for honeymooners or couples who need a quiet place to hibernate. It's away from the hustle and bustle of a city hotel or a crowded one.

Beautiful Resort
The place is cozy. Room is very comfortable. No TV in room. U can see the beach but need to be more careful to walk to the beach, it's look like very difficult to walk to the beach. Last we drive to Damai beach and play the sand castle with kid. There is a restaurant just next to this resort, price reasonable.

Amazing in some respects, lot's more untapped potential
The hotel was great for our purpose: a quiet getaway from the city. You already know the design is beautiful and it's secluded. When we were there we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves. However there are negatives and I do think we are entitled to be picky given the type of rates charged: which could easily get a 5 star hotel anywhere in Malaysia. First the design - the room is gorgeous. Then you realize there is nowhere to hang your clothes. At all. Or to put toiletries in the shower. No bathrobe or slippers. No TV, IPod dock or anything of that sort (I'm actually fine with that). There are power points everywhere though. Except near the mirror, where the wife needs it to blow dry her hair. On the first day, 3 of us guests were waiting for 20 minutes because the front gate was closed. Nobody at the guard house, nobody answering the door bell, and no one on the office or official hand phone either. Finally, some old school chorus of horns got someone to open the gate. As a hotel, one would expect the gate to be open at least during office hours? It was very thoughtful that lunch or dinner is provided. What wasn't so thoughtful was that having placed our orders at 4pm and being told to be ready around 7pm, we finally got the food at 8.30pm. At least it was delicious. Or I was ravenous by then. On the final day though, swimming in the infinity edged pool, with not a single other person around, with the warm sea breeze blowing in your hair and the cloud covered mountains behind, you come to realize what this property is about : it's your rich, good friend's house, lent for your use for the weekend along with his staff. It's fantastic for a weekend or for a wedding. Whether it's fantastic given the price: that depends on how many rich, good friends you have ...
