Nice Hotel BUT.....
I don't usually write reviews but for this hotel I felt I have to. Lets start with the pros : - The hotel is quite a new and located just across Tesco. - Check-in was fast and efficient. The receptionist was friendly. - All the staff I encountered during my brief stay were warm and friendly. - Ample of parking spaces. - The room looked warm and cosy. Nice comfortable bed. - Good amenities in the room with coffee making facilities, bedroom slippers, toothbrushes etc. Free wifi. - I only stayed a night and did not utilize their f&b outlets. Ok now on to the issues/problems I encountered with the room : - Upon closer look, the room was very dusty. I can practically write on the dust (see photo) - There was a huge cobweb on the ceiling. - The room looked like it has just finished construction as it has lots of white paint/plaster stain everywhere.. on the wall, doors and furnishing (see photo) - The pillowcases looked like they were just taken out of the washing machine.. very crumple. Makes you wonder if they were changed from previous occupant. - The clock has its binding partly torn off - The biggest complained I have was with the bathroom. It was so dirty. - The shower stall glass door & panel was so thick with scum which I think it was not cleaned since opening (see photo, sorry I didn't do justice to it) - The mirrors, big and small were dirty / badly stained. (see photos) - The worst was the drinking glass in the bathroom. It was not washed since the last occupant or longer. It has white stained left in it (see photo) - There was this shampoo (blue bottle) which was sticky and slimy and has black dirt or mold on it. Why? (see photo) - The shower stall has no place to put your toiletries. They place the soap balancing on the shower attachment. (see photo) - I dare not place anything (shampoo, bath gel) on the shower floor after seeing how dirty it is. - The shower drainage was clogged. It floods when I took a shower. I wonder if the bathroom was ever cleaned beside changing the towels. As I were out the whole day and came back late at night (that's when I found all the problems) I did not request for change of room as I was too tired. I did bring up this matter of cleanliness upon checkout. I don't know if this problem of cleanliness is only on this floor or the overall hotel. For the price of the room and standard of the hotel this is not acceptable. I hope the management will look into this matter.

A hotel with the paddy field view
It took me quite some time to decide on a hotel in Alor Setar. I engaged the help from the good people of TripAdvisor for genuine advices and tips. Upon finding that there’s a quite new and the first 5 star-rated hotel in the capital of Kedah (Alor Setar), I decided to give it a try and made the reservation via their website. The package that I booked does not come with complimentary breakfast. A long drive from Kuala Lumpur and we finally arrived in the late afternoon feeling rather exhausted. The hotel is easily located at the Mergong area and any GPS devices will lead a clear way there. It is situated opposite Tesco Hypermarket and the tall hotel building can be obviously seen from the road. Upon arrival, the porter helped us to unload our luggage and we proceeded to check-in. The check-in process was smooth and efficient. Together with the key card, we were provided with drink vouchers which can be exchanged for welcome drink at the hotel cafe. Kedah is the paddy growing state of Malaysia, hence, I requested for a room that is facing the paddy field and the check-in staff obliged. I also requested a room on the higher floor for better view. My requests proved to be the best reason I had stayed in this hotel. Upon entering our room, the first thing we saw was the view of the Gunung Keriang (Keriang Hill). The mountain itself looks like a big rectangular stone in the middle of the flat land filled with lush green paddy field. The view is so mesmerising and refreshing. Then we checked the necessity in the room. Room facility were perfect and complete. Complimentary beverages were provided including bottled drinking water. The lighting in the room is a bit dim but it didn’t really bother us as we were not on business trip. However, table lamp is provided at the work desk for a better view if working in the hotel room is required. Bathroom was great with rain shower and water pressure was good for a relaxing shower. Complete set of amenities were provided too. There is an in-house swimming pool which is quite small and can get very crowded. However, the pool water is clean and good for a dip on a hot and sunny day. Pool towels are provided and guests can use and bring the towel back to the room. In the room’s bathroom, there is a rattan basket for the return of the pool towel. For visitors who are unable to get rooms with the mountain view, the view can be viewed from the swimming pool deck. Car park is complimentary for guests. Open air car park bays are situated by the side of the hotel and multi-storey car park bays are situated at the back of the hotel. It will be advisable to park indoors during the rainy seasons as there are connected area from the hotel lobby to the indoor carpark. The security of guests in the hotel is worth to mention as key card is required to activate the lifts to the floors of the guest rooms. This ensures that only guests with authorised key cards can proceed to their rooms safely. Overall, it was a good stay. It was also a good experience to be staying at a 5-star hotel with the great view of paddy fields. It will be a great and grand view when paddy fields turn yellow or gold in colour.

Brilliant Service
A very good hotel with a very good customer service. The facilities everything seems quite new and maybe due to the fact that the hotel also is only few years old. The room is nice and cosy. When I first arrived, I was having quite few issues with my room I.e. with the tap, shower and fridge which all were not functioning well. However, the hotel management dealt with it almost immediately. As for the breakfast, quite nice spread and taste wise also quite nice. Should I didn't go to their washroom on their ballroom's floor, I should have already rated this hotel as 5 stars. The toilet's condition was not in a condition for what 4 or 5 stars hotel should be. It was in a very disastrous condition. Other than that, it's a very nice hotel which I don't mind to stay over there again.

A Last Minute Booking
My one night stay here turns out to be an excellent stay. Hotel is centraly located and is around loads of food eateries. Tesco is just opposite the hotel incase you need quick purchases. Hotel rooms are extreamlly comfortable and this add up to a pleasant stay. Would surely recomend this hotel and it provides one of the best services in the state and is one of the newer hotels.

Great location
Love the location of this hotel, just beside lots of shops and hawker stalls, and Tesco hypermarket right across the road. Grab is available in this town so getting around is easy. The swimming pool is nice and is at a lovely temperature. Cons: TV channels a bit blurry. The room was a little dark though, especially at night when I had to draw the night curtains. My colleagues (who all booked separate rooms) had other issues such as the minibar fridge which was not working, water pressure/heater faulty and the hotel staff didn't seem to want to address the problems immediately.
