Dayang Bunting Island is a place full with love, magnificence, mystery and at the same time, miracle It is undoubtedly, an attraction not to be missed when visiting Langkawi Island. Literally, the meaning of Dayang Bunting Island is 'Island of Pregnant Maiden'. It has a touching and fairy-tale- like legend, making the island more mystical and amazing at the same time. The island, which is about 20 kilometres from Kuah town, is modestly populated on one side and virtually uninhabited on the other side, where the lake is situated. Dayang Bunting is the second largest island in Langawi's cluster of 99 islands. It's located offshore and south of the main island, and can easily be reached by a boat. Dayang Bunting Island has a wonderful large fresh water lake (known as Lake Guillemard) surrounded by picturesque hills having dense rain forests. The lake too is known as Lake of the Pregnant Maiden.

How to Get There

Island hopping tour is one of the most popular activities organized by the local agent. In Langkawi, travel agents can do arrangement for the island tour. Basically there are plenty of travel agents available in Langkawi. The price for an island hopping tour costs about RM 35 to RM 60 per person. For those who travel in a group, you can choose to rent the boat for 8 persons at RM 280 or RM 300 for a 12-person boat. The tour usually starts at 10.00 am and the boat will depart from Awana Porta Malai terminal. Some agents do offer complimentary pickup from hotel to the terminal, especially for guests staying in Pantai Cenang. From the terminal (which is located at Pantai Tengah), it takes about 20 minutes to reach Pulau Dayang Bunting by boat. There will be a small jetty for drop-off purpose and merely a 2 minute walking distance from the jetty, you will be able to see the entrance to the Tasik Dayang Bunting Lake, Marble Geoforest Park. While walking, take your time to enjoy the wonderful scenery as the sea in turquoise is surrounded by thick and lush forest.

Tourist Attractions

Nearby the lake, there is a small shop selling unique souvenirs and handcrafts. Paddle boat and life jacket rental service also available at the shop. There is a small separated area beside the stall where you can find hundreds of cat fishes. You can put your feet into the pool and enjoy the natural fish spa. Besides, swimming is also allowed in the lake or you can just lay on the wooden platform, enjoy a sun bath under the wonderful lake view. Dayang Bunting Lake is yet another magical place formed under the Dayang Bunting Island. Take a walk around the lake and you will see the ‘Miracle Border”. A narrow wooden bridge will lead you there. It is called “Miracle Border” because it signifies the slim borderline between the lake and the sea. Surprisingly, the lake is not salty even though the distance from the sea is merely 30 meter.
