What Guests Say About Their Stay

I was worried when I booked one of the cheapest available hotels in the centre, but I was far from disappointed. The man on reception gave us an amazing welcoming, showed us on the computer what we had in-store for Kings Day and offered other advice for the long weekend. They let us store our bags before and after our stay. The room was just what we needed, clean, tidy, with twin beds, a lovely Juliette style "balcony" window with a small but perfectly acceptable enough suite. There is so much to see in Amsterdam, so I'm not sure there is a perfect location, but being right in the middle and close to the station worked well for us. Would stay again!

Having read mixed reviews, I was apprehensive. The location is fantastic, an easy walk from the station and you can walk any where. Check-in was relatively quick. We were told they had only one room for us, even though our booking clearly showed we had booked two. This was quickly sorted. The lift was working, which was good as the stairs are narrow and steep and reviews had mentioned it being broken. The room itself (on floor 2) was very compact, which we expected - just enough room to walk around the bed and the bathroom door did not fully open because there was not enough room. However, we stayed three nights and it was fine. We had a window which opened into a narrow alley so the room was dark. There is a TV but only a couple of channels work and it seemed pointless. No other room amenities supplied. The room was clean as were the bedsheets. The mattress could probably do with replacing, but it was OK. During our stay, we had new towels delivered but our room was never cleaned even though our friends room next door was. When they provided new towels, they removed one of the key cards from the room and also left the heating on 30° so when we came back to the room in the evening, it was absolutely roasting. Some guests also decided that the ‘no smoking in your rooms’ rule did not apply to them on one evening and as a result the fire alarm was triggered and this was a bit chaotic with very little information from the staff. For a basic base, this is a good budget choice.

Only good thing about this hotel was location. Stayed 5 days and tv was never fixed even though they said they were working on it. Staff is ok and they “try” but really can’t fix anything or don’t have the power to fix anything. Very ugly stains under mattress and in hallways. Wouldn’t stay here again.

Location is relatively convenient to getting around the city, but not one of the nicer parts of the city. Not dangerous, but relatively dirty and generally unexciting. Our room was cramped, poorly laid out and not remotely sound-proof. Staff was all pleasant and helpful, but the property itself is not a place I’d stay again.

This is a great location step right on to the main drag with metro and bus only steps away. This is a hotel where you just go to sleep, not big rooms where you could sit and have a coffee ans they are dated, the elevator is broken so lots of steps for yourself and staff which means bedding and towels tend to be left in rhe corners of the hallways. I was not in Amsterdam for the hotel, so like I said a good hotel to sleep at.

Great location, very central, easy to pop back to during the day. The hotel is on a main road so some road noise but not bad, and nothing a pair of earplugs didn't fix. Room fine, bit small. Beds comfy. Bathroom tiny but clean and functional. Communal areas could do with some updating. I was expecting a bit more for the price I paid but I don't travel much so I may be out of touch.

All rooms were on higher floors and with the elevator not working for our entire 3 night stay made it difficult to climb with luggage and for older people. Only amenities were shampoo and hand soap. No facecloths. Curtains could have used an ironing.

The hotel has an excellent location, however it's more than well used. It requires a thorough decoration ,carpets , blinds and paintwork all require attention. The room was small , shower room adequate with good pressure. Fresh towels daily and general housekeeping was done. A nice clean room would have enhanced our stay. Hotel was fully booked on the website no exchange room available

Other than the location of the hotel there is nothing positive I can say about this hotel. Hotel mentions the rooms are cleaned daily, this just means replacing the towels and making the bed. The bathroom wasn’t wiped down, the floors were filthy. Furniture was dusty, stains on walls and curtains. The curtain was hanging off the railing. The pillows were really lumpy so don’t expect to get any decent sleep. We booked an economy room with a window, and the room was tiny. Hardly any space to move around. Wouldn’t come back to this hotel again.

Staying at Hotel Codial was truly a horrible experience. The room had a smell that wouldn't clear no matter how long the window was open. The bed and bedding were stained yellow with urine. They don't uses a proper sheet so the sheets didn't even stay on the bed while sleeping. There was hair and dirt under the pillows. The hallways were filty and they had "clean" towels and sheets out on the floor with no regards for the people who'd have to use them. The elevator was broken. The shower doors wouldn't remain closed, and the sill for the shower was too minimal, causing water to pool into the bathroom floor from washing. The people we sarcastic and rude when asking why things were being operated the way they were. Stay elsewhere unless you want to be surrounded by filth and foul air.
