Etxegana Hotel & Spa

Beautiful decor, lovely view, large room which was very clean. Very small carpark with difficult entry/exit angle as well. Very hard mattress and pillows made for a rough sleep. At night, a lot of noise and smoke from downstairs. Air conditioner wasn't working, and spa bath didn't work either. Overall, a reasonable price for our stay, but disappointing as from the listing I'd expected more of a luxury escape.

Lovely quiet county retreat. The staff were so nice and food delicious. Wonderful area for hiking but note that wooded walks only straight from the hotel. Only a short drive to get to more open hiking. Great towns nearby too.

The hotel was beautifully laid out with stunning views. The staff were above and beyond incredible. They couldn’t do enough to help. Always on hand and so amenable. I had the best stay and if I could rate 11/10 I would.

Location magical. Staff super friendly and extremely helpful. Hotel was beautiful and spacious. 5* all round, can’t wait to visit again.

This is a secluded mountain location. The staff are friendly. The restaurant serves delicious food, it is a must if you are staying her to try the restaurant. There is a spa which I didn’t use.

Absolutely loved this property. It is located right in the mountains, very quiet and tranquil. The restaurant has one of the best food we tried on our trip around Spain. Highly recommend.

Room and views were fabulous. The compromise for having super views and complete quietness was that the location was a little isolated. Great overnight stop if catching the Bilbao ferry back to England

It was alright. I was really looking forward to this hotel in our 7 day trip around northern Spain and basque but unfortunately it didn’t deliver. It was alright but I specifically booked it as it was a hotel and spa. What I didn’t understand when booking was that you had to pay additional to use the spa. And it was per person. My wife and I love spas. We got to the hotel for 4pm to take full advantage and use of the spa as the weather was not so nice. However, the spa was €30 per person and was for 1 hour. If we wanted to use the spa for 2 hours it would have cost €120! Seems a little wrong in my opinion. I understand the reasoning behind the reservation to have privacy but in off season when there were not very many guests at all….. it felt like a let down. I can imagine how beautiful it would have been if it wasn’t so cloudy and raining. Room was ok, TV was good! Literally all day and night sitting in our room watching TV. It was a shame. Felt isolated and limited which wasn’t good..

Lovely spot in the mountains, easy drive to both Bilbao and south. Amazing hosts, and the breakfast buffet had a lot of selection. Highly recommend staying here. The spa is an additional cost 20€ I believe, and the dinner seemed to be a set fee of 39€ but we didn’t eat as only stayed 1 night . Would definitely stay again for longer l

Nice room and lovely quiet location

Amazing landscape and unique design. Property located in the rural area. No 24-hour staff. We needed to leave around 0600 and found that gates were closed and there nobody to open them. We called the number provided and after a while someone answered with no knowledge of English keep saying "no understand". Finally someone show up at the gates and still did not want to open them, saying :"It's too early. You have to pay first" even we were not checking out. After arguing back and forth he finally opened gates and we were able to get to the place we needed. This would not happen if we would be aware that gates will be closed at night.

OMG! This place is amazing! It’s definitely a hidden gem (literally) but well worth the drive from Bilbao. Couldn’t have been happy. Make you feel like family when you are there. Thank you Luis and staff!

Excellent food, and friendly staff.

Stayed at the hotel/spa for a few days while on business. True to it's name, it was a place to relax and enjoy the quiet. Having a coffee in the morning while looking out over the mountains was a nice start to the day. Restaurant and bar were well stocked. Excellent value as well. Would without hesitation recommend to friends and look forward to staying again.

A group of 7 of us, wonderful welcome, beautiful hotel, fantastic food, and wonderful setting. Would love to go back sometime.

This is a beautiful, small, family run hotel. The surrounding area could be a movie setting with snow capped mountains ( our visit was in March), green foot hills with grazing sheep, and beautiful stone homes with red tiled roofs. It was peaceful, and relaxing. The owners and their family are all very kind and gracious. The hotel is filled with gorgeous Indonesian carved furnishings, stained glass, and beautiful tile. The food was fabulous and the wine exceptional. If you are in the Bilao Spain area, it's worth the 45 mn drive to treat yourself and stay at Etxegana!

We had a really relaxing 2 night stop on the way home from our holiday home on the Costa Blanca, before catching the ferry back from Bilbao.
