She's not posh but you'll have a wonderful Swiss guesthouse experience in a quaint village. Breakfast was spectacular with many choices and delicious coffees. Easy train and bus connections to all the local towns and villages. Looking forward to a return visit.

Stayed there for a week and really enjoyed our stay. It was a very homey feel and a great experience for the price. The hotel breakfast every morning ran from 7:30am to 9:30am and had some really good coffee every morning which was really convenient.

This property is old as hell and need some improvements. Next to the church and water which was noisy as hell at night. My room window is missing a window screen. No A/C , no iron in the room. It looks like a cabin not a standard hotel room. Breakfast was ok not anything fancy.

In more than 30 years of international travel, during which I have visited over 50 countries and stayed at luxury, chain, and boutique hotels, this was by far the poorest hospitality experience I have encountered.
The most troubling aspect of my stay was the conduct of the owner/manager. On a single day, I received more than 13 messages criticizing me for leaving the breakfast room at 10:08 a.m on Sunday, despite arriving at 9:38 AM (sign posted showed breakfast ends at 10:00 AM on weekend and 9:30 AM on weekdays). The hotel's posted signage states only that "breakfast ends at 10:00 a.m." It does not state that guests must finish eating and vacate the dining room by that time.
When I pointed this out, I was told that guests are not allowed to enter after 9:15 a.m on weekdays. This policy is not posted anywhere, was never communicated at check-in, and appears to have been created during our conversation. More concerning was the tone and repeated stream of messages over what amounted to eight additional minutes in the breakfast room. The communication did not stop until I informed the owner that I intended to preserve and publicly share the conversation.
The property also suffered from several other significant shortcomings:
Bugs and flies were consistently present throughout the hotel.
Guests were greeted with prominent notices threatening additional charges for requesting extra towels, despite the room being stocked with only two extremely worn, thin towels.

The rooms were rather small, but the historic character, location and the breakfast were all wonderful. I loved hearing the rushing river next door all night. Of course, there is no air conditioning, so the down comforters were not at all appropriate for the weather.

Going in we knew it was a historic building but the room was dark and minimal compared to other similar facilities we have stayed at. No one was at the desk to check us in, we had to call on phone at desk to pay for parking before getting code to lock box for key to room. There was no mention of a code to get back in the building in the evening. Breakfast was the standard continental breakfast. Beautiful area with an old church and covered bridge.

We loved our stay at the Historic Hotel Steinbock. We booked a room with a river view for two nights which was great. The room was decorated nicely and had everything you would need during your stay. The included breakfast each morning was very good with a large variety of items to pick from. The contactless check in was a plus. There are restaurants and a market nearby that are walkable from the hotel also. The location is great for day trips to various areas of interest. There is also parking available for hotel guests right outside the hotel which was convenient. Highly recommend a stay at this hotel.

We stayed at the Steinboch for four nights, the Hotel is historic so don't expect a modern room. But it was honestly fine, I liked the room, loved the Hotel, right beside an old church. The area around is beautiful, and it is close to the train station whichnis a plus. Food was also very good.
The biggest problems for us was that the room wasnt fully clean when we got there. We seen someones used band aid on the floor. Also one of the nights the heat didnt really work which left us having to use the hair dryer for heat lol.
Tbh, all this stuff I dont really care too much about. However, one big issue I had is, I am on my honeymoon with my wife, which I let them know. So one night we had music playing. Not until 1am in the morning mind you. But getting close to 10pm. We hear a knock on the door. Then all of a sudden our door opens. I walk up to the door and the inkeeper is there looking at me with an angry face and yells at me to turn it off then walks away to his room.
My wife had just gotten out of the shower 10 minutes before he knocked and decided to open the door to our room. Pretty brutal, also there is signs all over the place telling you what you van and can't do. Including for every minute you stay past check out you pay 10 franks.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay, but that definately put a bad taste in our mouth
