Often being called as Tugue by the locals, this 3rd class component city is the capital of Cagayan province, while being the regional centre of Cagayan Valley and major urban centre of Northeastern Luzon. Best time to fly from Tagbilaran-Bohol to Tuguegarao

Tuguegarao really has only two seasons which is wet and dry seasons where rainfall can be heavier than usual during the wet or monsoon season whereas it gets drier in the hotter months. However, the humidity can be high too. The best time to visit Tuguegarao would be between the months of March to May when the weather is warmer with occasional showers, in which this period is not too hot or too cold. This is a great time to come out and explore the city. The off-peak season is in the months of December to February, in which during this season, you will certainly find better flight tickets and hotel deals.


Main airports available in Tagbilaran-Bohol and Tuguegarao

Bohol–Panglao International Airport – Also known as New Bohol International Airport, this airport is the major airport that serves the areas in Bohol province in general as well as the surrounding areas. Its location is in Tawala, Panglao Island, which is about 20 kilometres away from the city centre of Tagbilaran. It is a public airport operated by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, having its doors open to the public since 2018 so as to replace the older Tagbilaran Airport which had been damaged by the 2013 Bohol earthquake. This newer airport too is capable of catering to the increasing passenger traffic mainly caused by the rise in tourism. One such example is its capability to accommodate larger aircraft like Airbus A330 with a 2,500 meters long asphalt runway. It is clear that the product of joint funding between the Japanese International Cooperation Agency and the government of the Philippines has borne fruit. The Bohol–Panglao International Airport mainly serves airlines such as Air Juan, AirSWIFT, Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines, Philippines AirAsia and Royal Air Way Charter for flights heading to and from destinations such as Caticlan, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Clark, Davao, Dumaguete and Manila.


Tuguegarao Airport – The Tuguegarao Airport is the airport meant to serve the cities of Tuguegarao and Cagayan as well as the surrounding areas. Located alongside the Maharlika Highway, this major commercial, domestic airport has a runway is 2,000 meters long and is made of concrete at an elevation of 21 meters. Among the airlines served here including PAL Express, Cebu Pacific and Sky Pasada covering destinations to and from Basco, Itbayat, Manila and Palanan among others. There is a 1,100 square meters terminal with a 150 meter by 115-meter apron.


Climate pattern in Tagbilaran-Bohol and Tuguegarao

The climate in Tuguegarao is tropical year-round with an average temperature of 27 degrees Celsius. However, in certain months like March and April, the average temperature could go up to as high as 38 degree Celsius, which is among the highest in the Philippines. The highest temperature recorded here was 42.2 degree Celsius in August 1912 and May 1969, making Tugugegarao the hottest city in the Philippines. Yet the temperature could also go down to as low as 15 degree Celsius around the months of December to February. The annual precipitation is at 1,736.2 mm with at least 20 to 300 millimetres of rainfall every month of the year.

  • Tuguegarao Cathedral – Located at Rizal Street, Barangay Centro 10, this cathedral is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Tuguegarao. Also known as the Saint Peter Metropolitan Cathedral, it is built by the Dominican friars in 1761 with an a18th-century style baroque. It has been rebuilt over the course of its history, especially after World War II by Monsignor Bishop Constance Jurgens. Considered as one of the largest cathedrals in Cagayan Valley, it has significant historical importance that a historical marker was installed here in 1982.
  • Buntun Bridge – Buntun Bridge is a bridge crossing the Cagayan River from Tuguegarao to Solana, spanning a total length of 1,369 meters. It is the second-longest bridge in the Philippines after San Juanico Bridge and the longest river bridge, being part of the Santiago-Tuguegarao Road. Constructed was initiated in 1960 and funded by the Philippine National Construction Corporation before public opening nine years later. This bridge offers a scenic view of the Cagayan River that is unparalleled by any other attractions around town.
