Last minute booking. Furniture in the room was a little dated but 5 stars for a very comfortable bed, amazing bathroom with great shower. Lovely staff who were friendly and could not do enough for us. Loved the extra touches - packets of fudge in the room, decent tea, bottled water and good biscuits. Decent breakfast. Loved the old world grandeur of the building. Would recommend this hotel and we will be back. Shout out to The olive tree restaurant - amazing food

An extended stay in the Buxton area due to changes with work, meant another nights stay at the Palace Hotel. As before, check-in was quick and easy. This time I was on the second floor and again my room was clean & tidy. Unfortunately this room was as hot as the last, again despite the radiator being off. The same problem of un-lagged/insulated heating pipes in the room was the cause. Hopefully this is a easy and simple fix for the the hotel.

Check-in was quick and easy. My room was on the third floor which gave the oppotunity to view the amazing central straircase. My room was clean tidy and comfy. My only complaint was the room was very hot, despite the radiator being off. This problem was likely caused by the un-lagged heating pipes in the room which were red hot. Even with the window being open, the heat made for a restless nights sleep.

The bed was rock hard, the pillows were the most uncomfortable I’ve slept on, the room was in serious need of renovation and had iron burn marks on the floor, old furniture, the bathroom was dated and had black mould around the bath. Only 1 plug socket in the room, single glazed windows so the traffic noise was loud and it was cold. Awful night sleep

Front desk - checked in online as requested only to find there was no key area for me to collect keys so had to queue with other people checking in so waste of time. Then despite request for 2pm no key was ready until after 3pm. Told pool shut at 4pm so didn't give much time and it was chargeable anyway despite staying in hotel.

Elegant old building in great location in Buxton but needs a lot of money spent on it the gym area needs a lot of repair also which you are charged extra to use as with parking never tried the food so can’t comment staff seemed friendly enough but to keep a massive old hotel like this ship shape takes a lot of investment that I’m not sure Britannia chain will plough in the money that’s needed

The room was a great size but the bed was rock hard, which is not good for my back. I like to sleep with a window open but the room was just above the pump for the swimming pool which was on constantly all night and very loud. Between that noise and the really uncomfortable bed I had a really bad few nights sleep. I asked to change rooms but was offered a room that was tiny, also with a rock hard bed and above outlet pipes that were also noisy. The situation was not helped by the man at reception who liked rolling his eyes and couldn’t hide the inconvenience in his voice of our requests.

Just awful! The hotel looks beautiful outside and so does the reception area etc, but we'd never return. We arrived while it was heavy rain with a baby in a pushchair and our toddler. There were signs to say there was an accessible entrance but we couldn't see where the door was, so had to wake up our sleeping baby to get the pram through the tight revolving doors. We then asked a member of staff to point out where the accessible entrance was, and she said she didn't know?! Checked in at reception, told to pay for parking but no other information given and guy on reception was so unhelpful. Given a room that required two flights of stairs with no lift (with a pram, baby and toddler while also 8 months pregnant and having to carry our children and pram and luggage up!). Went up to our room which was extremely dated, and to top it off the bathroom and toilet area was freezing cold! There was no way I could give my baby or toddler a shower when it felt like you'd be having a shower outdoors in January! Also the mattress was extremely uncomfortable, couldn't sleep the 2 nights we were there! The next morning we told receptionist about the freezing cold bathroom and was told maintenance would have a look, whether they actually did I wouldn't know as it was still freezing when we came back to our room later that day. Decided to go swimming and shower kids there, to find out you have to pay to use the pool! Never had this in any other hotel when you're paying to stay!
