I can't believe I've been staying at Gran Mahakam room 523 for 14 days. From the moment I checked in on July 4, 2026, the room was comfortable, with a bathtub and hot and cold water. The staff at Gran Mahakam were very helpful, including helping me get medicine from the Mahakam Pharmacy next to the Gran Mahakam Hotel. The hotel manager was also kind and friendly. The soundproofing from the outside was 100% excellent, and the room was quiet. I'll stay here again next time.

I've been eyeing a staycation here for a long time, as predicted, it's very homey 😍. The view of my room is Ayodya Park and at night it's nice, there are many sellers, you can walk around and see it in the morning and evening, and the room is soundproof so the sounds from outside can't be heard, just faintly. Downstairs there is a coffee cafe which is aesthetic and instagrammable. Next time I want to try another room.

Great, I've stayed here twice. Check-in is easy, staff is friendly, facilities are well-functioning, close to Indomaret, walking distance to the MRT, and the atmosphere is peaceful. There's a public restaurant upstairs that you can order directly from your room using a barcode. It's like a co-living boarding house, and for the price of 200,000 Rupiah, it's really good.

More about hotels in Gandaria

Discover Kebayoran Baru: A Sophisticated Indonesian Escape

Kebayoran Baru, a distinguished district within Indonesia's bustling capital, offers a unique blend of modern sophistication and accessible charm that appeals to a diverse range of international travellers. Unlike the more overtly tourist-centric destinations, Kebayoran Baru presents a more authentic slice of urban Indonesian life, characterized by its well-planned streets, upscale residential areas, and a burgeoning scene of independent boutiques and eateries. For those seeking an experience beyond the typical tourist trail, this area provides a refined yet approachable introduction to Jakarta's dynamic spirit, allowing visitors to engage with local culture at a comfortable pace.

The district itself is a study in contrasts, with distinct neighbourhoods each offering a different flavour of urban living. Gandaria, for instance, is a hub of commercial activity and modern amenities, featuring large shopping malls and a concentration of hotels catering to various budgets. This internal variation means that where you choose to base yourself within Kebayoran Baru can significantly shape your entire trip. Understanding these nuances is key to unlocking the most rewarding aspects of your visit, whether you prioritize proximity to shopping, dining, or a quieter, more residential atmosphere.

From a value perspective, Kebayoran Baru presents an attractive proposition for international visitors. With an average starting price of just ₱ 409.77 per night and an impressive overall review score of 8.6 from over 8,000 guest experiences, the region offers substantial quality and comfort at a competitive price point. This makes it a particularly appealing destination for travellers from the United States, Europe, and India, who can often find their travel budgets stretched further here compared to many Western or even some Asian destinations, allowing for longer stays or more exploration.

The accommodation landscape in Kebayoran Baru is as varied as its neighbourhoods, featuring everything from opulent five-star establishments to more modest, yet highly-rated, three-star options. Consider Hotel Gran Mahakam, a benchmark for luxury and service, offering a premium experience that justifies its higher price point. On the other hand, Homy Nomad Gandaria provides an excellent example of the value found in the mid-range segment, proving that exceptional quality and guest satisfaction are achievable across different budget levels. These diverse offerings ensure that travellers can find the perfect book hotel that aligns with their expectations and financial plans.

Ultimately, Kebayoran Baru is a destination that caters to the discerning international traveller. For those from the United States and Europe, it offers a sophisticated urban experience with access to excellent dining and shopping. Travellers from India will appreciate the connectivity, the diverse culinary scene, and the excellent value for money. While direct cultural parallels might be less pronounced for travellers from Africa, the region's modern infrastructure and developing international appeal make it an interesting and accessible entry point into Southeast Asian urban exploration, offering a comfortable and engaging stay.

Best Areas to Stay in Kebayoran Baru

Kebayoran Baru, while a single administrative district, is a mosaic of distinct neighbourhoods, each possessing its own unique character and appeal for international visitors. Choosing the right area to base yourself is crucial, as it will significantly influence your daily experiences, from the local ambiance to the ease of accessing attractions and amenities. Understanding these differences will help you tailor your Kebayoran Baru adventure to your specific interests, whether you're seeking vibrant city life, tranquil residential streets, or convenient access to commercial hubs.

Gandaria

Gandaria is the pulsating heart of modern Kebayoran Baru, a district that truly embodies the contemporary urban Indonesian lifestyle. It's a place where sleek shopping malls, like Gandaria City, stand alongside residential enclaves, creating a dynamic environment that appeals to travellers who enjoy being at the centre of activity. This area offers a familiar comfort for visitors from Western countries and India, with its well-developed infrastructure and a wide array of international and local dining options, making it an easy place to navigate and enjoy.

From Gandaria, you have direct access to a plethora of shopping, dining, and entertainment venues. The area is also a gateway to exploring other parts of Kebayoran Baru, with relatively easy access to key landmarks. For those looking to explore beyond their immediate surroundings, booking book attractions is straightforward, with many tours and day trips originating from or passing through this central district. Getting to Gandaria from Jakarta's main international airports typically involves a taxi or ride-sharing service, taking approximately 45-60 minutes depending on traffic.

Kebayoran Lama

Kebayoran Lama offers a more grounded, local experience compared to the polished sheen of Gandaria. This neighbourhood provides a glimpse into the everyday life of Kebayoran Baru residents, with bustling local markets and a more traditional streetscape. It’s an area that might particularly resonate with travellers from India or other parts of Asia who are accustomed to vibrant street life and a more organic urban flow. The presence of the Radio Dalam Market here offers a fantastic opportunity to engage with local commerce and sample authentic Indonesian street food.

The culinary scene in Kebayoran Lama is a significant draw, especially around the Radio Dalam Market, where you can find a variety of local delicacies. It’s also a good base for experiencing authentic Indonesian dishes like Soto Kudus, often found in smaller, family-run eateries. While public transport within Kebayoran Lama itself might be more localized, it connects well to broader city transit networks. Travel from the airport to Kebayoran Lama is similar to Gandaria, with ride-sharing services being the most convenient option, though potentially taking longer due to traffic.

Pakubuwono

Pakubuwono presents a more upscale and tranquil side of Kebayoran Baru, characterized by its elegant residential streets and a sense of exclusivity. This area is ideal for travellers who appreciate a quieter, more refined atmosphere, perhaps those from European countries or the US seeking a sophisticated urban retreat. While not as commercially dense as Gandaria, Pakubuwono offers a peaceful environment that is still within easy reach of Kebayoran Baru's main attractions and business districts, providing a comfortable balance between serenity and accessibility.

The appeal of Pakubuwono lies in its sophisticated ambiance and the quality of its residential offerings, which often translate to well-maintained and comfortable accommodations. Dining options here tend to be more curated, focusing on quality restaurants and cafes that cater to a discerning clientele. While direct public transport might be limited within the immediate residential pockets, taxis and ride-sharing services are readily available to connect you to the wider Kebayoran Baru network and beyond. The journey from the airport will take approximately 40-55 minutes.

Cipete

While technically bordering Kebayoran Baru, the Cipete area, particularly its proximity to the MRT line, offers a compelling option for travellers seeking excellent connectivity and a vibrant, youthful atmosphere. Cipete is known for its trendy cafes, independent shops, and a lively social scene that attracts a younger demographic and expatriates. This makes it a great choice for travellers from all backgrounds who value a dynamic environment and easy access to modern amenities, with a particular draw for those who appreciate a burgeoning arts and culture scene.

Cipete's culinary landscape is diverse, featuring a wide range of cafes and restaurants that cater to various tastes, from local Indonesian fare to international cuisine. Its proximity to the MRT Cipete Raya station is a significant advantage, offering swift and efficient travel across Jakarta, a major plus for any international visitor. This connectivity makes it easy to explore Kebayoran Baru and other key areas without relying solely on road transport. The travel time from the airport to Cipete is comparable to Gandaria, around 45-60 minutes, but the MRT provides a faster onward journey within the city.

Pondok Indah

The Pondok Indah area, often associated with Kebayoran Baru due to its proximity and shared amenities, is renowned for its large-scale commercial developments and family-friendly environment. It's home to one of Jakarta's most prominent shopping malls, Pondok Indah Mall, making it a prime location for those who enjoy extensive retail therapy and entertainment options. This area is particularly attractive to families and travellers from regions like India or the US who appreciate the convenience of having numerous amenities within close reach.

Pondok Indah offers a comprehensive range of dining experiences, from food courts within the mall to standalone restaurants and cafes. Its family-oriented nature means there are also plenty of activities suitable for children. While it's a bit further from the immediate centre of Kebayoran Baru, its excellent road infrastructure ensures relatively smooth access to other parts of the city. The journey from the airport to Pondok Indah is similar to other southern Jakarta districts, typically taking 45-60 minutes, with ride-sharing services being the most practical mode of transport.

Food & Dining in Kebayoran Baru

Kebayoran Baru offers a rich culinary landscape that reflects Indonesia's diverse gastronomic heritage, with a particular emphasis on local flavours and contemporary dining experiences. Beyond the ubiquitous nasi goreng and satay, the district is a place to discover regional specialties and innovative dishes crafted by talented chefs. For travellers from the Philippines, India, and beyond, exploring Kebayoran Baru's food scene is an essential part of the journey, providing a delicious gateway into the heart of Indonesian culture and cuisine.

The area around Radio Dalam Market and the mention of Soto Kudus point to authentic local food experiences. Travellers can find numerous warungs (small eateries) and street food stalls offering affordable and flavourful dishes. For Muslim travellers, Indonesia is predominantly a Halal destination, and Kebayoran Baru is no exception. Most local eateries and restaurants will clearly indicate Halal certification or preparation methods, ensuring a comfortable dining experience for those adhering to Islamic dietary laws. Exploring these local spots offers a genuine taste of Indonesian home cooking.

Dining in Kebayoran Baru offers a spectrum of price points, making it accessible to a wide range of international visitors. Street food and meals at local warungs can be incredibly inexpensive, often costing less than ₱ 100 per person, which translates to under $2 USD. Mid-range restaurants offer a more comfortable dining experience with meals typically ranging from ₱ 150 to ₱ 300 (around $3-$6 USD). Upscale dining can reach ₱ 500 or more per person, offering international or fusion cuisine, providing value that is often significantly lower than comparable establishments in the US or Europe.

When dining in Kebayoran Baru, embracing local customs enhances the experience. Meals are generally informal, and it's common to eat with a spoon and fork, though some dishes are best enjoyed with hands. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service, usually around 5-10% of the bill. Be open to trying new flavours and textures; Indonesian cuisine is known for its complex spice profiles. Observing how locals interact and order can also provide valuable insights into dining etiquette, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable culinary adventure.

Local Etiquette & Safety in Kebayoran Baru

Understanding local customs and maintaining a mindful approach to safety are key to a rewarding visit to Kebayoran Baru. While generally a safe and well-ordered district, like any major urban area, being aware of cultural nuances and practical safety tips will ensure a smoother and more enjoyable experience for travellers from the Philippines, India, the US, Europe, and Africa. Respecting local traditions and staying vigilant are fundamental to navigating the city with confidence and ease.

When visiting places like the Radio Dalam Market or seeking out authentic Soto Kudus, remember that politeness and respect are paramount. Dress modestly, especially when visiting more traditional areas or smaller eateries; covering shoulders and knees is advisable. Always ask for permission before taking photos of people, particularly in markets. Queuing culture is generally observed, so be patient and wait your turn. A simple smile and a polite "terima kasih" (thank you) go a long way in fostering positive interactions with locals.

For practical safety in Kebayoran Baru, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas, and to keep valuables secure. While petty theft is not rampant, it's always best to exercise caution. For transportation, ride-hailing apps like Grab are widely available, reliable, and offer transparent pricing, which is a great alternative to traditional taxis. Ensure your phone is equipped with offline maps and translation apps, which can be invaluable for navigation and communication, especially if you venture into less tourist-frequented areas.

In case of emergencies, the general emergency number in Indonesia is 112. For specific needs, local police can be contacted through their district stations. While Kebayoran Baru is generally safe, it's always prudent for Filipino travellers to have the contact details for the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta readily available. Considering travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and trip disruptions is also highly recommended, providing peace of mind for any unforeseen circumstances that might arise during your stay.

The most convenient way to get around is by using ride-hailing apps like Grab, which offer cars and motorcycles at competitive prices. For those who prefer public transport, the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) system, particularly the Cipete Raya station, offers efficient travel across key parts of the city. The best time to visit Kebayoran Baru generally aligns with Jakarta's dry season, which runs from June to September. During these months, the weather is typically sunny with lower humidity, making it more pleasant for outdoor exploration and sightseeing. The shoulder months of April-May and October-November can also be excellent, offering a balance of good weather and fewer crowds.

Before you depart for Kebayoran Baru, ensure you have a few essentials sorted. The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR), and while major credit cards are accepted in hotels and larger establishments, carrying some cash is advisable for smaller vendors and local markets. Visa Information for Indonesia (Kebayoran Baru)

For Philippine passport holders planning a visit to Indonesia, including the Kebayoran Baru district, visa requirements are generally straightforward. As of current regulations, Filipino citizens are typically granted visa-free entry for short stays, usually up to 30 days, for tourism or business purposes. This allows for a convenient entry into Indonesia without the need for pre-application or visa-on-arrival fees. It is always recommended to confirm the latest visa policies with the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in the Philippines before your travel dates, as regulations can be subject to change.

The application process for visa-free entry, if applicable, requires that your Philippine passport be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay and that you possess proof of onward travel, such as a return or onward flight ticket. While no specific visa fee is associated with visa-free entry, you may be asked to present proof of sufficient funds to cover your expenses during your stay. It is crucial to adhere to the permitted length of stay to avoid any immigration issues upon departure from Indonesia.

While visa-free entry is common for many nationalities, including Filipinos for short stays, it is always prudent for travellers to verify the most up-to-date visa regulations directly with the official immigration authorities of Indonesia or the Indonesian Embassy in the Philippines. Visa policies can change, and confirming your entry requirements before booking flights or making non-refundable arrangements is a recommended practice to ensure a smooth and hassle-free travel experience to Kebayoran Baru and other parts of Indonesia.
