Choose the best room in this hotel, cheap price but much better quality than the room class below, we stayed in VIP family, 1 double bed & 1 single bed, AC, toiletteries, sandals, mini fridge, local TV, everything works well, clean, comfortable, quiet, and one more thing is there is fried rice for breakfast delivered to the room for 3 people, we checked out in the morning at 7, breakfast was delivered at 6.30, amazing so we had time to have breakfast before traveling, no regrets choosing to transit at Permata Hotel.

This typically means covering shoulders and knees, especially for women, when visiting mosques or temples. Always ask for permission before taking photographs of individuals, particularly in rural or more conservative areas. Queue culture is generally observed, and patience is appreciated. Being mindful of these practices ensures you are a respectful visitor, enhancing your interactions with the local community.

Safety in Kampung Laut is generally good, but as with any travel destination, it's wise to take precautions. Keep your valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded markets or on public transport. Ride-hailing apps like Grab are widely available and offer a convenient and relatively safe way to get around. For navigation, having offline maps downloaded on your smartphone is highly recommended, as mobile data coverage can sometimes be inconsistent in certain areas.

In case of emergencies, the local police and ambulance services can be contacted through standard emergency numbers. For Filipino travellers, it's always prudent to know the location of the nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate in Indonesia, which can provide assistance in critical situations. Considering travel insurance is also a wise precaution to cover any unforeseen medical expenses or travel disruptions, ensuring peace of mind throughout your journey in Kampung Laut.

Getting to Kampung Laut and Getting Around

Reaching Kampung Laut from the Philippines is a journey that typically involves flights from major hubs like Manila (NAIA/MNL) or Cebu (CEB), often with a layover in a major Southeast Asian city such as Kuala Lumpur or Singapore. While direct flights to the nearest airport serving Kampung Laut are uncommon, connecting routes are readily available, with total travel times usually ranging from 8 to 12 hours.

The estimated cost for a round-trip ticket can vary significantly, but budget around ₱15,000 to ₱25,000 for an economy fare, depending on the season and booking time. The primary airport serving the region is likely to be located in or near Cilacap, with transfer times to the city centre varying but generally manageable. You can book flight tickets conveniently through Traveloka to find the best options.

Once you arrive in the Kampung Laut region, getting around is relatively straightforward, with a mix of public and private transportation options. Local buses and 'angkot' (minibuses) are the most economical ways to travel between different towns and districts, though they can be crowded and follow fixed routes. Taxis and ride-hailing services like Grab are also widely available, offering more comfort and direct routes, especially in the more urbanized areas of Central and South Cilacap. For exploring specific neighbourhoods or attractions, renting a motorbike can provide flexibility, but ensure you have the necessary permits and are comfortable with local traffic conditions.

The best time to visit Kampung Laut generally falls within the dry season, from May to September, when the weather is most pleasant with lower humidity and less rainfall. This period aligns with peak travel seasons for many international visitors, including those from the US and Europe, so expect higher hotel prices and more crowds. For travellers from India and the Philippines, visiting during the shoulder seasons, such as April or October, can offer a good balance of favourable weather and fewer tourists, potentially leading to better deals on accommodation and flights.

Before you depart for Kampung Laut, ensure you have a few essentials sorted. The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). While major credit cards are accepted in larger hotels and some restaurants, carrying cash is essential for markets, smaller eateries, and local transport. Consider purchasing a local SIM card upon arrival for affordable data access, which is invaluable for navigation and communication. Essential apps to download include Google Maps (with offline maps), a translation app, and ride-hailing apps like Grab.

Visa Information

For Philippine passport holders planning a trip to Indonesia to visit Kampung Laut, understanding the visa requirements is crucial. As of current regulations, Philippine citizens are typically granted visa-free entry into Indonesia for short stays, usually up to 30 days, for tourism purposes. This allows for a convenient entry process, meaning you generally do not need to apply for a visa in advance. However, it is always recommended to verify the latest regulations with official Indonesian immigration sources before your travel dates.

The visa-free entry for Philippine passport holders usually requires that your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay and that you possess a confirmed return or onward ticket. While no visa fee is charged for this entry, you may be asked to present proof of sufficient funds to cover your expenses during your stay. It is important to note that visa policies can change, and confirming these details with the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in the Philippines is a responsible step before booking your travel.

While visa-free entry simplifies the process, it is always advisable for travellers to double-check the most current visa regulations directly with Indonesia's Directorate General of Immigration or the Indonesian Embassy in the Philippines. This ensures you have the most up-to-date information regarding entry requirements, permitted length of stay, and any potential changes that may have occurred. Confirming your entry status before you book flight tickets will provide peace of mind and prevent any last-minute issues.
