Grand Hotel Des Iles Borromees

This is an amazing hotel in many ways! The staff are incredibly warm and helpful; the location is fantastic --with breath-taking views; the swimming pools and spa are top-notch; the restaurant food and service are excellent. It is an easy walk to Stresa, where we enjoyed shopping and drinks. I simply cannot say enough good things about our stay! I give this hotel my highest recommendation.

Absolutely wonderful historic hotel. An immersive museum of Italian art, outstanding service, and most beautiful grounds.

Stayed four nights with my 14-year old daughter. Amazing hotel in a picturesque location. Lots to do on and off property. Pool, spa, boat rides on the lake and exploring the islands. Great restaurants. Incredible staff who were always friendly and helpful. 10 out of 10.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful & well maintained in every detail. Kudos to the gardening staff for the magnificent surroundings bathed in the scent of jasmine. Spa experience (massage & facial) was excellent. My lake view superior room was lovely, clean. I’d think twice before staying here again for 1 reason: the sub-standard food. We dined at Il Borromeo 3 times & none of our dishes were hot nor prepared as ordered. They came out of the kitchen too quickly after ordering so we gathered they were pre-made. One night we ordered Wagyu steaks, medium rare. They were thin cut, served COLD & medium well; vegetables & sauce also stone cold. Sent them back & received well done meat. Sent that back & ordered the tagliata steaks, medium rare …got medium. The cacio e pepe was lukewarm, veal without flavor. The carbonara was also lukewarm & sticky rather than creamy. Bread was hard & lacked flavor. As for the breakfast served in Il Borromeo all the various croissants were dry (so disappointing). The lone bright spot for dining is Le Bistrot — the poolside snack bar! Great food there. Other small things need work: water bottles not replaced during our 4 day stay, no mint at turndown is odd for a 5-star, CNN not working even though we reported it twice. At check in Reception did not have a record of my pre-booked spa appointment & said *I* should call the spa to confirm. (Umm, no, that’s your job, Sir.) Restaurant staff more concerned about breaking down tables than serving guests.

Room is clean and beautifully decorated. Staff are friendly and courteous. Valet parking is great! Great view from hotel and close to city center.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Concierge staff were very knowledgeable. We love staying at this hotel. We love the town of Stresa and would love to come back.

Great location and wonderful service

Hotel historico y elegante, qu te hace sentir en un verdadero palacio. las habitaciones aunque estan bien, les vendría bien una remodelacion. Las vistas al lago son maravillosas.

Front desk staff and concierge were accommodating and friendly. One person was not so nice - ignored us standing there for quite a while even though no one else was around. But other than that, excellent! Spa was amazing! We enjoyed it every day. Would definitely stay here again!

This Hotel is a MUST to stay in.As you drive up you think you are in a time machine as you approach this gorgeous edifice from another century.Th...e rooms are spacious and you feel as if you are either in a castle or a museum. Staff extremely friendly and welcoming. Located only a short walk from the ferrys to the islands.breakfast was out of thos world.Fantastic choices everyday with spectacular service.This is the Hotel to choose if you are going to visit Lake Maggiore.

Beautiful historical hotel . Spa is exceptional

We are extremely disappointed with this stay, especially as returning guests who previously had much better experiences. Unfortunately, the hotel has clearly gone downhill and no longer reflects a 5-star standard.The room was poorly cleaned with dust throughout, a dirty bathroom, cigarette butts on the balcony, and a strong smell of smoke despite requesting a non-smoking room. This is completely unacceptable. Room service was also poor, with missing items and cold, low-quality food. Breakfast was disorganised and frustrating — staff were unhelpful, coffee repeatedly had to be requested as it was not available at the buffet, and service in general was extremely slow. We also asked several times for tea and coffee, but it took far too long to arrive. Although I specifically asked for gluten-free bread, none ever arrived, and when we asked if there was any fresh gluten-free bread or pastries available, none were provided. We travel frequently, and this is the first time we have stayed in a 5-star hotel where there were no fresh gluten-free products available at all, apart from a few sealed processed items. This is far below expected standards. The hotel also states it is pet friendly, however dogs are not allowed in the restaurants, which was disappointing. As a result, we had to find nearby dog-friendly restaurants instead. Public areas were overcrowded and noisy, particularly the pool, with little control from staff. I was impressed by the fact that Napolean Bonaparte came to stay in this area. That made this experience very unique.

Room was beautiful and clean. Staff was not always friendly

The stay was perfect. The hotel is established and you feel the history and class when you are walking in. The hotel staff is always available from unpacking your car and delivery your luggage on arrival to picking your luggage and packing your car back during departure. The service is incredible. The restaurant and bar are good with the variety of choices.
