An absolutely amazing experience, our room was clean comfortable, had everything needed that we required for our stay. We even had our own plunge pool right out the back door. The location was perfect, many restaurants less than a minute walk from the hotels front door, a supermarket a few minutes walk on the same street, bottle shop across the road next to a ice cream stall and approx 5 minutes from the beach. All facilities at the hotel were nice including the pool, staff were so accommodating and friendly, they even organised our transport to and from the hotel. I have zero negative things to say about my time there and will definitely be staying here in the future, I look forward to it

Your Travel Guide to Boracay Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Boracay Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

The most common and efficient way to reach Boracay Island from Manila and other major Philippine cities is by air. Direct flights are available to Caticlan Airport (MPH), which is the closest to the island, typically costing between PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000 depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight. Flights to Kalibo International Airport (KLO) are also an option, often slightly cheaper, but require a longer bus or van transfer (around 1.5 to 2 hours) to Caticlan Jetty Port.

For those preferring land travel, you can take a bus from major terminals in Metro Manila to Caticlan. This journey is considerably longer, usually taking between 10 to 14 hours, with fares ranging from PHP 1,000 to PHP 2,000. This option is best suited for budget-conscious travelers who do not mind the extended travel time and wish to see more of the country en route.

Once you arrive at Caticlan Jetty Port, you will need to pay terminal and environmental fees before boarding a boat to Boracay Island. The boat ride itself is short, approximately 15 minutes. Upon arrival at Boracay's Cagban Port, tricycles are readily available to take you to your accommodation, such as Altabriza Resort Boracay, for a small fee.

Best Time to Visit Boracay Island

Boracay Island experiences two main seasons: the dry season (Amihan) from November to May, and the wet season (Habagat) from June to October. The dry season is generally considered the best time to visit, with calmer seas, sunny skies, and lower humidity, making it ideal for beach activities and water sports. Peak tourist season falls between December and February, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher prices for accommodation and flights during these months.

For travelers seeking a balance between good weather and fewer crowds, the shoulder months of November and May can be excellent choices. You'll still enjoy pleasant weather conditions, but with a more relaxed atmosphere. The wet season, while characterized by stronger winds and occasional rainfall, can offer lower prices and a more tranquil experience for those who don't mind the possibility of intermittent showers.

Food and Dining Near Boracay Island — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to the Philippines is complete without indulging in its rich culinary landscape, and Boracay Island offers plenty of opportunities to do so. A must-try is Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche, featuring fresh raw fish marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili. You can find excellent versions at local eateries and seafood restaurants scattered across the island, often prepared with the day's freshest catch.

Another Filipino favorite that graces Boracay's dining scene is La Paz Batchoy, a hearty noodle soup with pork, shrimp, and vegetables, originating from Iloilo. For a taste of grilled perfection, try Pork Liempo (marinated pork belly) or Chicken Inasal (grilled chicken marinated in a mixture of calamansi, pepper, and annatto oil). Many beachfront restaurants offer these grilled specialties, perfect for a sunset meal.

Don't forget to sample Halo-Halo for dessert, a popular Filipino mixed-dessert with shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream. It's the perfect sweet treat to cool down with. For a more substantial meal, try Adobo, the national dish, which comes in various forms but is always a flavorful combination of meat braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns.

Near Altabriza Resort Boracay, you'll find numerous dining options. D'Mall offers a variety of restaurants serving both local and international cuisine. For authentic Filipino flavors, explore smaller, local carinderias or ask hotel staff for recommendations on where to find the best traditional dishes. Jollibee, just steps away, provides a familiar taste of home for those craving Filipino fast-food staples.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Boracay Island

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. When visiting Boracay Island, embracing this spirit by being polite and respectful is appreciated. A simple "po" and "opo" (yes, sir/ma'am) goes a long way. Be mindful of local customs, such as dressing modestly when visiting religious sites, though beach attire is perfectly acceptable on the sands and in most tourist establishments.

Safety is paramount for any traveler. Boracay Island is generally safe for tourists, but it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items. It's also advisable to stay hydrated, use sun protection, and be cautious when swimming in unfamiliar areas. For emergencies, Ciriaco S. Tirol Hospital is nearby, and you can also note the local emergency hotline numbers.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable map application like Google Maps is indispensable for navigating the island. For communication, messaging apps like WhatsApp or Viber are widely used. Additionally, having the Traveloka app on your phone will allow you to easily manage your bookings, discover new attractions, and book attraction tickets on the go.

Familiarize yourself with local transportation options. Tricycles are the main mode of transport on the island, and it's good practice to agree on the fare before starting your journey, especially for longer distances or private hires. We enjoyed a three night stay at the Altabriza resort. It gets five stars for convenience, friendliness of staff, location, spaciousness, AC, and well designed room layout (tons of storage space). The only negative was the breakfast buffet which had limited food options. They would have had five stars if they can improve the food options. Overall, it’s a great location with D’Mall, white beach, money exchange, laundry services, restaurants, and tuk tuk availability close by

The staff was very rude and had a lot of hidden charges. My wife got make up on a towel and they charged me for the towel. I’ve traveled all over the world and never been charged for a dirty towel.

The place was convenient to mall, beaches. One time the front desk used the door bell twice then she tried to open the door. She knows that someone is using that room. So im not really secured for the safety. The staff was friendly and accomodating

Pros = Great location, private plunge pool was well worth the extra money, good breakfast and really friendly staff in the restaurant, good size room and very comfy bed, facilities also good in the room, nice infinity pool on the roof deck! Cons = Very expensive transfer from Caticlan Airport, you can do it all yourself for a quarter of the price. Card machine was broken so had to pay room deposit with cash, it is expensive for us to withdraw cash and to have 3000 php left on the last day of your holiday isn't ideal. If it was a small hotel I wouldn't mind but a big hotel like this should have a working card machine. Would have been nice for reception to leave a message with advice about what to do when the typhoon hits the island. Lots of renovation going on at the hotel so it was quite noisy at times but I hope the improvements will be worth it. Overall we were pleased with our stay, just a few issues to consider.

The service was amazing! It was my bday and was greeted with a birthday piece of cake. My room was fabulous! Location of the property was perfect. 2 blocks from d mall and a few blocks from the beach. The service was top notch from front desk to security guard to housekeeping to the the restaurant staff. They were so accommodating to any questions that I had. Ask them for reservations to restaurants and they will get it done! Huge thank you for making my bday memorable!!

The staff was very rude and had a lot of hidden charges. My wife got make up on a towel and they charged me for the towel. I’ve traveled all over the world and never been charged for a dirty towel.
