Spacious and clean rooms, excellent customer service. Everyone was eager to please. Kudos to the check in staff, concierge and Cafe astoria esp John Marc. We had the 2 bedroom suite which we enjoyed, gym and buffet breakfast with many options. Loved our room on the 31st floor even though the elevator was a little slow. Walking distance to Edsa Shangrila and Megamall. Grocery and restaurants nearby.

Your Travel Guide to Pasig as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Pasig from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from other parts of the Philippines, flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila is the most common method. Major airlines like Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia offer numerous flights daily from various provincial capitals. Fares can range from PHP 2,000 to PHP 6,000 or more, depending on the origin city and booking time.

From NAIA, you can take a taxi, a ride-sharing service, or the airport bus to reach Pasig City, with travel times varying from 45 minutes to over an hour depending on traffic. Consider booking your book flight in advance for better rates.

If you are traveling from nearby provinces in Luzon, bus travel is a viable and economical option. Major bus terminals in Metro Manila, such as those in Cubao and Pasay, serve routes going to Pasig City. Bus fares typically range from PHP 400 to PHP 800, and the journey can take anywhere from 4 to 8 hours, depending on the distance and traffic conditions. This is a good choice for those who prefer land travel and want to see more of the countryside.

For those driving their own vehicles, Pasig City is accessible via major expressways and road networks. From North Luzon, you can take the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and connect to the Metro Manila Skyway or EDSA, then head towards Ortigas Avenue. From South Luzon, the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) can be used, also connecting to the Skyway or EDSA. Toll fees will apply, typically ranging from PHP 300 to PHP 600 for the entire journey, depending on your starting point and the specific routes taken.

Best Time to Visit Pasig

The Philippines experiences a tropical climate, and Pasig City is no exception. The best time to visit is generally during the dry season, which runs from November to April. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities, exploring the city, and enjoying the various attractions Pasig and Metro Manila have to offer. Temperatures typically range from 25°C to 35°C.

The wet season, from May to October, brings occasional to frequent rainfall, often in the form of heavy afternoon downpours. While this period might see fewer tourists and potentially lower accommodation prices, it can disrupt outdoor plans. However, the rain usually doesn't last all day, and indoor attractions like malls and museums remain accessible. For budget-conscious travelers or those who don't mind occasional rain, the shoulder months of November and April can offer a good balance of pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

Food and Dining Near Pasig — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to the Philippines is complete without indulging in Adobo, the unofficial national dish. This savory stew of meat (usually chicken or pork) braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and black peppercorns is a staple in Filipino households. Near Astoria Plaza, you can find excellent versions in local eateries and even in some of the restaurants within the Ortigas Center, offering a comforting and familiar taste of home.

Sinigang, a sour and savory soup, is another must-try. Typically made with tamarind broth, it can feature pork, beef, fish, or shrimp, along with a variety of vegetables like kangkong, radish, and tomatoes. Its distinct tangy flavor is incredibly refreshing, especially on a warm day. Look for restaurants serving traditional Filipino cuisine in areas like Kapitolyo, known for its diverse culinary scene, which is a short drive from your hotel.

For a taste of something sweet and satisfying, Halo-Halo is the ultimate Filipino dessert. This popular treat is a delightful concoction of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It’s a perfect way to cool down and enjoy a burst of flavors and textures. Many cafes and restaurants in the malls and commercial centers around Ortigas offer their own versions of this beloved dessert.

Lechon, a whole roasted pig with crispy skin and tender, flavorful meat, is a celebratory dish that's a favorite at Filipino gatherings. While a whole lechon might be too much for a solo traveler, many restaurants offer lechon kawali (deep-fried pork belly) or lechon paksiw (pork stewed in liver sauce) as delicious alternatives. These dishes provide a taste of this iconic Filipino delicacy.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Pasig

Filipinos are known for their hospitality and strong sense of community. When interacting with locals, a polite demeanor and a smile go a long way. It's customary to use "po" and "opo" when addressing elders or those in authority as a sign of respect. While generally a safe city, it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas like markets and public transport. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items openly.

For emergencies, the general emergency number in the Philippines is 911. It's also helpful to have the contact numbers for your hotel and local police precinct readily available. When using ride-sharing apps, always verify the vehicle and driver details before starting your trip. Familiarize yourself with the common routes and travel times to avoid potential scams or overcharging by unscrupulous transport operators.

To enhance your travel experience in Pasig and Metro Manila, several apps are highly recommended. Grab is essential for booking rides, food delivery, and even grocery shopping. Google Maps is invaluable for navigation, providing real-time traffic updates. For communication, WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger are widely used. Consider downloading a currency converter app if you're dealing with foreign exchange.

Understanding basic Filipino phrases can also be helpful and appreciated by locals. Simple greetings like "Magandang umaga" (Good morning), "Salamat" (Thank you), and "Pasensya na" (Excuse me/Sorry) can facilitate smoother interactions. Embracing the local culture and being mindful of customs will undoubtedly enrich your stay in Pasig.

We received the room we reserved but the room smells moldy like wet floor, we need to ask maintenance to spray with deodorizer & kitchen has flying knats. Plus, the elevator is the worst that you have to wait for so long just to go up or down. Hallway on every floor is hot, hotel is not centralized air conditioning same as in the rooms. It shouldn’t be rated as 4 Stars if some amenities are not there. One room has a King bed but its just 2 full size bed joint together that has a groove and made it hard to sleep if you roll over and end up in the middle, you will feel that it was 2 beds connected ti make it into a big bed. Seems like there’s always way too many employees at the front desk all the time but service is slow. For long term stay - its OK but it could be better, overall.

Check-in experience: Smooth and the front desk staff was efficient, courteous, and friendly. I had 2 questions that she did not know the response to, and she quickly went to her supervisor and reached out to another team via phone to get the answer. Room: I have been staying at Astoria since the early 2000s. They have maintained the property pretty well but inconsistent experience between the two 2-br units. Rm1 - Kitchen is worn down, the unit smelled like a public bathroom, a couple of dining chairs had seen better days, one of the toilets had urine splashes that dried out, en suite was mouldy and shower was not working, bathrooms smelled awful, toilets had a lot of water stains that could use bleach! Rm2- Overall better than the other Each unit had 45-47" Sony/Samsung smart TVs, one in living room & one each in the bedroom. Breakfast buffet: Each room came with breakfast for 2, I hope it was for 4. Good variety. Staff was very attentive to the point that when my companion and I stood up to get more food, they cleaned it up but apologized when we got back to our seats. Water/coffee were served quickly. Ube champorado was so good! Check-out: Smooth, reasonable wait time. Staff asked for our feedback and seemed sincere in wanting to ensure it was addressed. Others: Cons - buffet area and lobby could be bigger. There should be more than 3 elevators servicing 35 floors. Dishwashing soap & sponge s/b included. Pro - customer service was top notch!

This is our second year staying at Astoria. Our family of 5 stayed last year too. We got a 2 bedroom suite and paid for breakfast everyday and even met family there to celebrate my husband’s birthday at Astoria Cafe. They have great and friendly staff, meal buffet all day as needed and you can even arrange an airport shuttle at a reasonable rate. If you set your expectations regarding the build quality it meets the propose of our stay. A convenient place to be near family in Ortigas, a place near malls, access to the mall and a great base to meet friends. Don’t hesitate to book here. It’s clean. Elevators are quick. It’s dated but the friendliness of the staff and the amenities make up for it. You can even exchange dollars at the front desk for pesos, you’re just limited to $200/day. Our stay came with parking. They offer scheduled shuttle to the malls that we get to try. We will book with Astoria again :)

Friendly staff, clean room,, too many visitors that linger in a small lobby,, crowded elevators, full capacity during breakfast 😕; always be patient, when you’re in the room, it’s a quiet sanctuary with large rooms
