The hotel location is not far from beautiful. Soak a private onsen both outdoors and indoors, but indoor is to separate men and women. Breakfast available quite okay.

staycation
The place is near a mountain, so it is quiet and has a chill vibe, which I loved! Within a 5-min walk, you have a 7-11 and a few restaurants with good food. If you want more variety of food and drinks (milktea, coffee, etc.), you can easily catch a taxi/uber for a 5 mins drive to a nearby area (find this on Google Maps: Zhongshan Rd, Jiaoxi Township, Yilan County, Taiwan 262). The breakfast from the hotel is delicious. I recommend the black tea for breakfast, they have good tea! I specifically choose this place for the in-room hot spring bathtub. It was amazing and clean! The hosts were friendly and caring, too! I would stay here again next time I come to Yilan!

Jiaoxi: Taiwan's Soothing Hot Spring Escape for Global Explorers

Taiwan, an island renowned for its dynamic cities and breathtaking natural landscapes, holds a special allure for travellers seeking both relaxation and cultural immersion. Among its many treasures, Jiaoxi stands out as a premier destination, particularly for those looking to unwind in the therapeutic embrace of natural hot springs. This charming town, set in the northeastern part of the island, offers a unique blend of tranquil hot spring resorts, lush greenery, and accessible natural beauty, making it a compelling alternative to the bustling metropolises. For international visitors, Jiaoxi provides an authentic Taiwanese experience that is both rejuvenating and culturally enriching, far from the well-trodden tourist paths.

The charm of Jiaoxi lies in its diverse offerings, which cater to a wide spectrum of preferences. While the entire region is synonymous with its geothermal wonders, distinct neighbourhoods within Jiaoxi present varied atmospheres. From areas buzzing with local life and convenient amenities to more secluded pockets offering serene retreats, choosing your base within Jiaoxi can significantly shape your travel experience. This internal variation ensures that whether you seek vibrant street food scenes or quiet contemplation amidst nature, Jiaoxi can accommodate, offering a nuanced exploration of Taiwan's hospitality and natural resources.

With an average starting price of ₱ 1,463.18 per night and an impressive overall review score of 8.8 from over 37,981 guest experiences, Jiaoxi presents itself as an exceptionally good value destination for international travellers. This affordability, coupled with high satisfaction rates, positions Jiaoxi favourably against many other popular hot spring destinations worldwide. For travellers from the United States, Europe, India, and Africa, Jiaoxi offers a chance to experience world-class wellness and Taiwanese culture without the premium price tag often associated with such quality, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious yet discerning explorers.

The accommodation landscape in Jiaoxi is as varied as its hot springs, featuring everything from luxurious resorts to charming guesthouses. Iconic establishments like the Hotel Royal Chiaohsi, a 4.5-star hotel celebrated for its extensive facilities and high guest ratings, exemplify the quality available. Similarly, the 3-star 58˚ Hotspring Hotel offers a more accessible yet highly-rated option, showcasing the diverse price points and service levels. These properties, among many others, provide a solid foundation for travellers looking to book hotel accommodations that perfectly suit their needs and budget in this unique Taiwanese locale.

Jiaoxi's appeal extends across various international demographics. For American travellers, it offers a serene escape with unique cultural experiences and excellent value. European visitors might find the blend of natural beauty, historical context (though less pronounced than in older European cities, Taiwan's own history is rich), and wellness opportunities particularly appealing. Indian travellers will appreciate the relatively easy accessibility, diverse culinary scene, and the range of budget-friendly to mid-range accommodation options. For travellers from African nations, Jiaoxi represents an accessible and culturally distinct Asian destination, offering a different perspective on global travel and wellness practices.

Best Areas to Stay in Jiaoxi

Jiaoxi, while a relatively compact region, offers a surprising diversity in its neighbourhoods, each providing a distinct flavour and set of advantages for international visitors. Understanding these nuances is key to crafting the perfect Taiwanese hot spring getaway. Whether you prioritize proximity to bustling attractions, a tranquil escape, or convenient transport links, selecting the right area within Jiaoxi can elevate your entire travel experience, ensuring you are perfectly positioned to explore the region's renowned hot springs and surrounding natural beauty.

Jiaoxi Hot Springs Park Area

This central district is the pulsating heart of Jiaoxi's hot spring culture, drawing visitors with its iconic landmarks and lively atmosphere. For international travellers, it offers an immediate immersion into the town's primary draw, with the Jiaoxi Hot Springs Park and the Tangweigou Hot Spring Park Jiaoxi Road Free Foot Bath just steps away. The vibe here is energetic yet relaxed, a perfect introduction for first-time visitors, especially those from North America and Europe who appreciate easy access to amenities and a clear sense of place.

From this vibrant hub, exploring Jiaoxi is effortless. Numerous restaurants serving local delicacies line the streets, and souvenir shops abound. Getting here from the nearest international airport, Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), typically involves a train or bus transfer, taking approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. This area is ideal for travellers who want to be in the thick of the action, with easy access to public transport for day trips and the convenience of having major attractions within walking distance, making it simple to book attractions and tours.

Jiaoxi Train Station Vicinity

For travellers prioritizing convenience and connectivity, the area surrounding Jiaoxi Train Station is an excellent choice. This district offers a more practical and transit-oriented atmosphere, appealing to those who plan to explore beyond Jiaoxi or appreciate seamless travel. Many hotels here provide shuttle services, making arrival and departure smooth, a feature particularly valued by travellers from India and Africa who may be navigating Taiwan for the first time. The presence of local eateries and shops ensures daily needs are met without venturing far.

This neighbourhood serves as a gateway, with frequent train services connecting Jiaoxi to other major Taiwanese cities like Taipei and Yilan. The journey from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) to Jiaoxi Station is straightforward via High-Speed Rail (HSR) to Taipei, then a local train, or direct bus services. This area is ideal for independent travellers and those on a tighter schedule, offering a blend of accessibility and local flavour, with many affordable dining options and essential services readily available for a comfortable stay.

Wufengqi Waterfall Area

While offering serenity, this area is still accessible to Jiaoxi's main attractions via a short taxi or bus ride. The Wufengqi Waterfall itself is a significant draw, providing a beautiful natural spectacle. Accommodation here often leans towards guesthouses and smaller resorts that emphasize natural integration. Getting to this area from the train station involves a local bus or taxi, making it a slightly more secluded but rewarding choice for those prioritizing natural scenery and quietude during their visit to Jiaoxi.

This area offers a different perspective, focusing on ocean views and seaside activities, appealing to travellers who enjoy a blend of hot springs and coastal exploration. It's a good option for families and groups looking for diverse experiences, and its slightly more laid-back vibe might attract travellers from various backgrounds seeking a break from inland attractions.

Toucheng boasts attractions like the Wai'ao Beach and the Lanyang Museum. It's accessible from Jiaoxi by a short train ride or bus journey. For international travellers arriving at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), reaching Toucheng typically involves a similar route as Jiaoxi, with onward connections. Jiaoxi's culinary landscape is a delightful extension of Taiwan's rich gastronomic heritage, offering a unique blend of local flavours and regional specialties that are sure to tantalize the taste buds of international visitors. While the entire island is a food lover's destination, Jiaoxi presents its own distinct culinary identity, heavily influenced by its proximity to the sea and its agricultural surroundings. Signature dishes often incorporate fresh seafood, locally grown vegetables, and the island's famous tea culture, providing an authentic taste of Taiwanese cuisine that is both comforting and exciting.

The town's food scene is best explored through its vibrant markets and local eateries, particularly in areas surrounding the main hot spring parks. The streets near Tangweigou Hot Spring Park and Jiaoxi Hot Springs Park are lined with vendors and restaurants offering everything from steaming bowls of beef noodle soup to delicate xiaolongbao. For Muslim travellers, finding Halal-certified options might require some research, but many establishments are increasingly accommodating, and vegetarian dishes are widely available, offering delicious alternatives that cater to diverse dietary needs and preferences.

Dining in Jiaoxi offers remarkable value for international travellers. Street food snacks can be enjoyed for as little as ₱ 50-100, while a hearty meal at a mid-range restaurant typically costs between ₱ 300-600 per person. Even more upscale dining experiences remain accessible, with set menus often priced around ₱ 1,000-1,500, offering a stark contrast to dining costs in many Western countries. This affordability allows visitors from the US, Europe, India, and Africa to indulge in a wide variety of culinary experiences without straining their travel budgets.

Navigating dining etiquette in Jiaoxi is straightforward and generally relaxed. Tipping is not customary in Taiwan, so the prices listed are what you will pay. Meal times are similar to Western schedules, with breakfast typically from 7-9 AM, lunch from 12-2 PM, and dinner from 6-8 PM. It's polite to wait for your host or the eldest person at the table to begin eating. Many locals appreciate it when visitors try to use a few basic Mandarin phrases, and showing appreciation for the food is always well-received.

Navigating Jiaoxi: Local Customs and Staying Secure

Understanding local customs is key to a respectful and enjoyable visit to Jiaoxi. Taiwanese culture is generally polite and considerate, with a strong emphasis on harmony. While Jiaoxi is a tourist-friendly destination, observing local etiquette will enhance your interactions. For instance, it's customary to remove your shoes before entering someone's home or certain traditional establishments. Public displays of affection are generally subdued. Being mindful of noise levels, especially in residential areas and on public transport, is also appreciated by locals.

When visiting popular sites like the Tangweigou Hot Spring Park Jiaoxi Road Free Foot Bath and Jiaoxi Hot Springs Park, specific behaviours are expected. While foot baths are communal and casual, maintaining cleanliness is important; rinse your feet before and after use. Photography is usually permitted, but always be respectful and avoid intrusive shots of individuals. Queuing is orderly, and patience is valued. For hot spring resorts, adhere to their specific rules regarding swimwear and hygiene, which are often clearly posted.

Safety in Jiaoxi is generally very high, with low crime rates making it a comfortable destination for international travellers. However, as with any travel, it's wise to take precautions. Keep valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. For transportation, while taxis are readily available, using ride-hailing apps like Uber or local equivalents can offer convenience and transparent pricing. Having offline maps and translation apps on your smartphone can be invaluable for navigation and communication.

In case of emergencies, dial 110 for police and 119 for ambulance and fire services. The Philippine Embassy in Taiwan is located in Taipei, and it's advisable for Filipino travellers to register their trip with the embassy or the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) for consular assistance. While Jiaoxi is a safe destination, having travel insurance is always recommended to cover unforeseen medical expenses or travel disruptions, ensuring peace of mind throughout your journey.

Reaching the serene hot springs of Jiaoxi from the Philippines is a straightforward journey, typically involving a flight to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), the main gateway to the island. While direct flights from Manila (MNL) or Cebu (CEB) to TPE are common and take approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, travellers from other Philippine hubs might require a connecting flight. Airlines like Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and China Airlines offer regular services. Once you land at TPE, you can easily book flight connections or opt for ground transport to Jiaoxi.

Getting around Jiaoxi and its surrounding areas is convenient and affordable. The town itself is quite walkable, especially the central hot spring districts. For longer distances or exploring nearby attractions, local buses are efficient and inexpensive, with fares typically ranging from ₱ 20-50. Taxis are also readily available, and ride-hailing apps can be used. The Jiaoxi Train Station serves as a key transport hub, connecting the town to other parts of Yilan County and beyond, making day trips and onward travel simple and accessible.

The best time to visit Jiaoxi largely depends on your preference for weather and crowd levels. Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) offer pleasant temperatures and lower humidity, making them ideal for outdoor activities and hot spring enjoyment. Summer (June to August) can be hot and humid with a higher chance of typhoons, while winter (December to February) is cooler and wetter, though still suitable for hot spring visits. Hotel prices tend to be higher during peak seasons and public holidays.

Before departing for Jiaoxi, ensure you have your essential travel documents in order. The local currency is the New Taiwan Dollar (NTD), and while major credit cards are accepted in hotels and larger establishments, carrying some cash is advisable for smaller vendors and local markets. Purchasing a local SIM card at the airport is recommended for easy data access. Essential apps include Google Maps for navigation, Google Translate for communication, and local transport apps if available.

Entering Taiwan for Jiaoxi: Visa Essentials for Filipino Travellers

For Philippine passport holders planning a trip to Jiaoxi, understanding Taiwan's visa policy is crucial. As of recent regulations, Philippine citizens can enter Taiwan visa-free for a stay of up to 14 days, provided they meet certain conditions. These include holding a passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay, possessing a confirmed onward or return ticket, and not being a security risk to Taiwan. This visa-free entry significantly simplifies travel planning for Filipino tourists heading to destinations like Jiaoxi.

The application process for a visa, should your stay exceed the 14-day visa-free period or if you do not meet the specific conditions, involves applying through the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines. This typically requires a completed application form, a valid passport, recent passport-sized photos, proof of financial capability (such as bank statements), and a confirmed flight itinerary and hotel bookings in Taiwan, including your intended stay in Jiaoxi. Processing times can vary, so it is advisable to apply well in advance of your travel dates.

While the visa-free entry is a significant convenience, policies can change. It is highly recommended for all travellers to verify the latest visa requirements and entry regulations with the official Taiwan Immigration Agency or the TECO in the Philippines before booking flights and accommodations. Confirming your entry status ensures a smooth and hassle-free journey to Jiaoxi, allowing you to focus on enjoying the hot springs and the unique culture of Taiwan.

The hotel location is not far from beautiful. Soak a private onsen both outdoors and indoors, but indoor is to separate men and women. Breakfast available quite okay.
