Everything is so great about grand Grand Hyatt Taipei; all of the hotel guests can take a close look at 101 tower during New Year's Eve firework. We didn't have to go outside on the street to watch 101. Rooms are so clean; they were very generous to give many complimentary water bottles. Staff were so friendly. Will stay here again for sure!

We stayed here during our layover otw to Jakarta. The staff was helpful to order a taxi (twice, as the first one left us; completely our mistake). Our room was super spacious with two larger single beds. The bathroom was also super big. All in all, it was a recharging stay there. Will definitely go back.

The location is wonderful, a short 1 minute walk from Ximen station and right at the heart of the Ximending walking district. The room was okay, though the layout was a bit strange with the sink on an island near the entrance. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We booked an airport transfer for our early morning flight, and the hotel packed breakfast for us to bring along, since we would miss the buffet breakfast.

We had a pleasant two-night stay at the hotel. It is conveniently located about 20–25 minutes (walk) from Chiayi Night Market. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the hotel offers basic facilities such as a gym and self-service laundry (although there are only two washing machines available). A nice gesture was the complimentary ice cream and coffee at the lounge area, which we really appreciated. Breakfast had a wide variety of options including local Taiwanese cuisine. Overall, it was a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

More about hotels in Taiwan

Taiwan: An Island of Contrasts for the Discerning Filipino Traveller

Taiwan draws as a destination that offers a captivating blend of the familiar and the exotic, particularly for travellers from the Philippines. Its reputation for incredible culinary adventures, from bustling night markets overflowing with street food delights to refined dining experiences, immediately resonates with a Filipino palate that appreciates bold flavours and fresh ingredients. Beyond the gastronomic journey, the island's stunning natural landscapes, ranging from mist-shrouded mountains to dramatic coastlines, provide a refreshing escape and a chance to reconnect with the beauty of the outdoors, offering a different kind of serenity than what one might find closer to home.

What makes Taiwan noteworthy is its remarkable diversity, presenting a different facet of itself depending on where you choose to explore. The dynamic energy of Taipei City contrasts sharply with the laid-back charm of Hualien, gateway to the majestic Taroko Gorge. Further south, Kaohsiung offers a vibrant port city atmosphere, while Taichung buzzes with artistic flair and culinary innovation. Even smaller regions like Miaoli and Chiayi City hold their own unique appeal, promising experiences that cater to every whim, ensuring that no two visits to Taiwan feel quite the same, no matter how often you return.

For travellers from the Philippines, understanding the value proposition is key. With an average review score of 8.6 from over 1.8 million guest experiences, Taiwan's hospitality sector is clearly well-regarded and offers a high standard of service. While prices can vary, the opportunity to find comfortable and well-appointed accommodations, with rates starting from an accessible price point per night, makes it a feasible and attractive international destination. This high level of guest satisfaction indicates a reliable and enjoyable travel experience awaits.

The iconic Taroko Gorge, a natural wonder carved by the Liwu River over millennia, stands as a powerful symbol of Taiwan's breathtaking natural beauty. Imagine standing amidst towering marble cliffs, the sound of rushing water echoing around you, and the sheer scale of geological artistry on full display.

This natural spectacle is just one example of the profound experiences awaiting visitors, offering a profound connection with nature that is both awe-inspiring and deeply rejuvenating. Planning your stay to include such natural marvels is essential for a complete Taiwanese adventure, and finding the right book hotel is the first step.

Taiwan's appeal spans a wide spectrum of travellers. Families will find engaging activities and comfortable accommodations in areas like Taoyuan City, with its proximity to theme parks and the airport. Couples seeking romance can explore the cultural enclaves of Taipei or the scenic beauty of Hualien. Solo adventurers will thrive in the urban exploration opportunities of Taipei and Kaohsiung, while business travellers will appreciate the efficient infrastructure and well-equipped hotels in major hubs. Each region offers a unique setting to suit different travel styles and preferences.

Best Areas to Stay in Taiwan

Taiwan is an island of distinct personalities, and where you choose to base yourself will profoundly shape your travel experience. From the neon-lit energy of its capital to the serene beauty of its natural landscapes, each city and region offers a unique flavour. Understanding these differences is crucial for Filipino travellers aiming to craft an itinerary that perfectly matches their interests, whether that's culinary exploration, outdoor adventure, cultural immersion, or a blend of all three.

Taipei City

Taipei City pulsates with an electrifying energy, a modern metropolis that seamlessly blends cutting-edge technology with deep-rooted traditions. For Filipino travellers, it offers a familiar yet distinct urban experience, with its efficient public transport, vibrant shopping districts, and an endless array of dining options. It's an ideal base for those who enjoy the convenience of a major city, offering endless opportunities for exploration, from world-class museums and bustling night markets to serene temples and expansive parks. Young couples and solo travellers will particularly appreciate its dynamic nightlife and diverse cultural offerings.

From Taipei, iconic landmarks like the Taipei 101 skyscraper, a symbol of modern Taiwan, are easily accessible. The National Palace Museum houses an unparalleled collection of ancient Chinese artifacts, offering a deep dive into history. For a taste of local life, the Shilin Night Market is a sensory explosion of street food and local crafts.

Getting around is a breeze thanks to the MRT system, and it's a major hub for domestic travel, connecting you easily to other parts of the island via high-speed rail and regular train services. You can easily book attraction tickets for many of these sights.

Kaohsiung

Kaohsiung, Taiwan's second-largest city, presents a more relaxed, coastal vibe compared to the capital. As a major port city, it boasts a maritime heritage evident in its revitalized harbour areas and waterfront attractions. Filipino travellers might find its laid-back atmosphere and warmer climate appealing. It's a fantastic choice for those interested in art, culture, and enjoying scenic waterfronts. Families will appreciate its spacious parks and accessible attractions, while couples can enjoy romantic strolls along the Love River or explore its burgeoning arts scene.

Key attractions in Kaohsiung include the stunning Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum, a sprawling complex dedicated to Buddhist culture, and the Pier-2 Art Center, a creative hub transforming old warehouses into galleries and performance spaces. The Liuhe Night Market offers a different culinary experience from Taipei's, focusing on seafood. Kaohsiung is well-connected by the Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) and has its own international airport, making it a convenient entry or exit point for southern Taiwan exploration.

Hualien

For travellers seeking to immerse themselves in Taiwan's unparalleled natural beauty, Hualien is the undisputed gateway. This eastern coastal city serves as the primary access point to the breathtaking Taroko National Park, famous for its marble cliffs and dramatic gorges. Filipino travellers looking for an escape from urban life will find Hualien's serene environment and stunning landscapes incredibly restorative. It's particularly suited for nature enthusiasts, adventure seekers, and couples looking for a romantic retreat amidst spectacular scenery.

The main draw here is, of course, Taroko Gorge, with its hiking trails, Swallow Grotto, and Eternal Spring Shrine. Beyond the gorge, Hualien offers beautiful coastlines, including Qixingtan Beach, perfect for a relaxing afternoon. The city itself has a charming, laid-back feel with local markets and seafood restaurants. While Hualien has an airport, many travellers arrive via train from Taipei, a scenic journey that takes around 2-3 hours, offering glimpses of Taiwan's picturesque eastern coastline.

Taichung

Taichung, situated in central Taiwan, is often described as the island's cultural and artistic heart. It offers a sophisticated yet accessible urban experience, known for its creative energy, unique architectural designs, and a burgeoning food scene that rivals Taipei's. Filipino travellers who appreciate art, design, and innovative cuisine will find Taichung a delightful discovery. It's a great base for families interested in attractions like the National Taichung Theater and Rainbow Village, and for couples seeking a more refined, arts-focused getaway.

Taichung's highlights include the whimsical Rainbow Village, a former military dependents' village transformed into a vibrant art installation, and the National Taichung Theater, an architectural marvel. The city is also renowned for its bubble tea origins and offers numerous cafes and restaurants showcasing local culinary talent. Taichung is a major transportation hub, easily reachable by THSR and regular trains, making it a convenient stop for exploring central Taiwan's attractions.

Miaoli

Miaoli, located in the northwestern part of Taiwan, offers a more tranquil and rural experience, often referred to as the "Hakka homeland." This region is perfect for Filipino travellers seeking to step away from the city bustle and experience Taiwan's agricultural landscapes and distinct Hakka culture. It's ideal for those interested in slower-paced travel, exploring traditional crafts, and enjoying the natural beauty of its rolling hills and hot springs. Families might enjoy the rural charm, while couples could find it a peaceful escape.

Key attractions in Miaoli include the Sanyi Wood Sculpture Museum, showcasing intricate wood carvings, and the Hakka Culture Museum, offering insights into the Hakka way of life. The region is also known for its tea plantations and hot spring resorts, such as those in Tai'an. While Miaoli is accessible by train, its attractions are more spread out, often requiring local transport or a hired car to fully explore its scenic countryside and cultural sites.

New Taipei City

As the sprawling municipality that encircles Taipei City, New Taipei offers a diverse range of experiences, from bustling commercial districts to serene natural landscapes and historic old towns. For Filipino travellers, it provides a chance to explore beyond the capital's core while still enjoying excellent connectivity. Areas like Xinzhuang offer modern amenities and business facilities, while places like Jiufen and Pingxi provide a glimpse into Taiwan's past with their charming streets and nostalgic atmosphere. It caters to a broad audience, from families exploring attractions to couples seeking romantic, picturesque settings.

Pingxi is famous for its sky lanterns, where visitors can write wishes and release them into the sky. The city also boasts natural beauty with locations like Yangmingshan National Park, known for its volcanic landscapes and hot springs. Its extensive public transport network, including MRT lines and buses, makes exploring its varied districts convenient.

Chiayi City

Chiayi City, located in southwestern Taiwan, serves as a crucial gateway to Alishan National Scenic Area, renowned for its breathtaking sunrises, sea of clouds, and ancient cypress forests. For Filipino travellers who prioritize nature and scenic beauty, Chiayi is an essential stop. It offers a more relaxed pace than the major metropolises, providing a comfortable base for exploring the mountainous interior. It's particularly appealing to nature lovers, photographers, and those seeking a tranquil escape amidst stunning natural vistas.

The primary allure of Chiayi is its proximity to Alishan, accessible via the historic Alishan Forest Railway, a unique mountain-climbing train. Within the city itself, visitors can explore the Hinoki Village, a beautifully preserved Japanese-era dormitory complex, and the lively Wenhua Road Night Market, famous for its local delicacies. Chiayi is well-connected by the THSR, making it an easy addition to any Taiwan itinerary, especially for those planning to venture into the island's mountainous heartland.

Taoyuan City

Taoyuan City, located in northwestern Taiwan, is often the first point of contact for international travellers due to hosting Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE). Beyond its role as a transit hub, Taoyuan offers a mix of modern urban development, cultural attractions, and natural escapes. For Filipino travellers, its proximity to the airport makes it a convenient place to stay, especially for early departures or late arrivals. It caters to families with its theme parks and recreational areas, and business travellers with its industrial and technological zones.
