Aceh – Destroyed by the earthquake and tsunami in December 2004, Aceh has recovered thanks to international assistance and the persistent spirit of the Acehnese themselves. Today, the area has been rebuilt and regenerated, and is emerging as one of the most profitable new tourist destinations in Indonesia. Visitors can see many poignant and dramatic relics of the disaster, from the area's Tsunami Museum, to rooftop fishing boats and 12,000-ton trawlers that washed ashore inland. As well as vivid reminders of disaster, Aceh is home to wildlife-filled jungles, misty mountain peaks, and endless stretches of empty beaches, where the circle of coral garden paradise beckons.
Pulau Weh – Pulau Weh is kilometer zero for Indonesia; the westernmost place in the archipelago, with an otherworldly beauty befitting its remote location. Weh is home to white sandy beaches and dazzling blue seas, framed by curving palm tree arches and bathed in warm sunlight. For those who love to snorkel, dive or simply enjoy the perfect escape from a typical tropical island, Weh is a great choice.
