Enoshima
Regarding the first formation of Enoshima, it is said that in April of the 13th year of Emperor Kinmei (552), sand began to emerge from the bottom of the sea, and after 21 days, Sand Island was formed. However, there is a moving legend about the initial formation of the island in the Hieizan Enryaku-ji Temple. The legend from the past says there was a large lake with a radius of 150km around Tsumura (current Kamakura City), and a five-headed dragon lived in the lake. It caused landslides and ground cracks, epidemics, floods and typhoons. People could not stop its evil deeds, and the village was deserted as a result. Therefore, Koshigoe (子死越, meaning: overcoming child's death, current Koshigoe / 腰越 on the other side of Enoshima) was formed. On a certain day in the 13th year of Kinmei, suddenly dark clouds covered the sea and the heaven and the earth was shaken. A beautiful fairy appeared in the clouds, and suddenly an island rose from the sea. The dragon fell in love with the fairy at first sight, and then promised not to do any more evil, changed his past mistakes and proposed to the fairy. Because of its unremitting efforts and constant deeds of goodness, it finally tied the knot with the fairy. Since then, the five-headed dragon and the gods have worked together to transform the island and protect the people living here. And it is said that the dragon is the incarnation of Benzaiten. Even Tokugawa Ieyasu visited to pray. In the Edo period, it became one of the sightseeing spots for Edo (current Tokyo) people. And because of Bensaiten's musical talent, it has always been a popular destination for Kabuki actors.
