Wangfujing Street in Beijing is one of the most iconic shopping streets I've walked through.

Known for its luxury boutiques and traditional shops, it's an ideal place for window shopping and retail therapy.

Located in the Dongcheng District, Wangfujing Street is just a few minutes by taxi or subway from the city centre.

If it's your first visit, I’d recommend coming in the evening when the lights are up and the snack street is bustling with local treats.

The Silk Market in Beijing was where I found some of the most beautiful silk scarves and robes.
It's a multi-level building with vendors selling everything from silk to electronics and souvenirs.

This area is reachable from central Beijing via Line 1 of the subway (get off at Yong’anli Station).

Silk Market is a spot where haggling is expected, so don’t be shy about bargaining for a deal.

Zhongguancun Electronic City is a paradise for anyone who loves gadgets.

I was amazed at the products on offer, from the latest smartphones to niche tech accessories.

Situated in Haidian District, you can get to the Zhongguancun Electronic City by taking Line 4 to Zhongguancun Station.

For tech lovers, it helps to do a bit of research beforehand to make sure you get genuine items at the best prices.

Yiwu International Trade City is one of the largest wholesale markets in China.

The scale of it is simply mind-blowing, with endless rows of stalls selling toys, jewellery, accessories, and more.

It’s a bit of a journey from major cities, but well worth it if you’re serious about bulk shopping.

I travelled to Yiwu from Shanghai by high-speed train, and the journey lasted just under 3 hours.

Wear comfortable shoes and take breaks in between sections to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Dongchang Road Night Market in Shanghai was a lively place to visit after sunset.

I enjoyed sampling various local street foods while browsing through clothes, accessories, and quirky souvenirs.

It's not far from the city centre and easy to reach by metro Line 6.

I’d suggest going with an empty stomach because the food options are incredible.

Panjiayuan Flea Market offered one of the most fascinating browsing experiences I’ve had.

It’s well-known for antiques and collectables, from old furniture and coins to vintage posters.

Located in the Chaoyang District, this famous market in China is accessible by Line 10 to Panjiayuan Station.

Arrive early to see the most interesting items before the crowds arrive.

Hongqiao Market still sticks in my memory as the place where I saw pearls of every shade.

Though it’s expanded to include electronics and clothing, the pearl selection remains its standout feature.

Located near the Temple of Heaven, Hongqiao Market is accessible via Line 5 to Tiantan Dongmen Station.

If you’re here to shop for pearls, compare prices at a few stalls before deciding.

Qi Pu Road Fabric Market is a must-visit for anyone interested in fashion or textiles.

The range of materials available is impressive, and I even had a few outfits tailored on the spot.

Located near Tiantong Road Station on Line 10, it's straightforward to reach the market from central Shanghai.

Don’t forget to bring cash and some sample ideas if you’re planning to have something custom-made here.

For me, visiting Liulichang Street in Beijing felt like stepping back in time.

This historic street market in China is lined with art galleries, calligraphy and antique stores.

I loved browsing for traditional Chinese art and handmade crafts here.

Located in Xicheng District, Liulichang Street can be reached by Line 2 to Hepingmen Station.

I recommend taking your time here and chatting with shopkeepers who often have fascinating stories to tell.

Dongmen Pedestrian Street in Shenzhen gave me a glimpse into what modern Chinese shopping scenes are like

The street is packed with shops, food stalls and entertainment, offering something for everyone.

It’s close to Laojie Station on Lines 1 and 3 of the Shenzhen Metro.

Go during the day if you prefer a less crowded experience, or in the evening for more energy and excitement.

Last but not least, the best market in China you need to visit is Tianshan Tea City in Shanghai.

Tianshan Tea City was one of my favourite stops for something more traditional.

This massive tea market introduced me to varieties like Longjing and Pu’er that I’d never tried.

Located in Changning District, it’s accessible via Line 2 to Loushanguan Road Station.

Many shop owners offer free tastings, so take your time sampling and learning about the different types of tea.
