The long school holiday is approaching, which means it’s time to whisk the family off on a vacation to a destination that will not only keep them happy and occupied, but one where you can enjoy yourself, too.

For a fun and relaxing holiday for all ages, these destinations across Southeast Asia fit the bill:

Phuket, Thailand

Phuket Fantasea Palace of the Elephants

Thailand’s largest island is essentially a traveler’s paradise – you’ll be spoilt for choice, whether it’s cultural performances, water sports, or savoring the best Thai cuisine.

The island’s white sand beaches are its main draw, so chill out by the sea at Phuket’s top family-friendly beaches, such as Kamala Beach, Nai Harn Beach or Kata Beach. The more adventurous will find plenty to do, with a variety of water sports to try out. Or better yet, check out Zipline Adventure to get the chance to zip past scenic rainforest scenes and clamber across sky bridges.

Should you wish to spend some time indoors, you can learn about Thailand’s culture and history at Phuket Fantasea, a mesmerizing, larger-than-life show. You can also take the kids to Phuket Aquarium, Phuket Trickeye Museum, Baan Teelanka (Upside Down House), or Kids Club Phuket.

Singapore

This buzzing metropolis is a favorite for many families, thanks to its cleanliness, safety, and wide range of entertainment options. Getting around is also easy with its efficient public transportation system.

Universal Studios Singapore is undoubtedly at the top of the list for kids and parents alike, with exciting rides that will have you screaming at the top of your lungs.

Besides that, Sentosa Island itself is a playground for ‘kids’ of all ages. With the Sentosa Skyline Luge & Skyride, you can take the Skyride from mainland Singapore all the way to Sentosa Island to get a bird’s eye view of your surroundings; then take an exhilarating ride down the hill on the Luge.

Visit the ArtScience Museum and witness spectacular, high-tech, interactive art installations that will push your imagination to the limit. And if you love furry critters, then the award-winning Singapore Zoo and its nearby Night Safari are a must-visit.

Boracay, Philippines

The idyllic island of Boracay is one of Philippine’s most-visited islands, attracting visitors from around the world with its pristine beaches and unforgettable experiences.

Unsurprisingly, beach hopping is one of the top things to do here: hire a boat for a tour around the island’s many beaches, including Puka Shell Beach, Crocodile Beach and Ilig-iligan Beach.

For the best view of the sunset, hop on a traditionalparaw boat so you can catch the last rays of sun while peacefully floating out at sea.

Feeling peckish? Enjoy some fresh seafood cooked Filipino-style at any of the local restaurants and be sure to finish on a sweet note with halo-halo, the country’s favorite dessert.

Hoi An, Vietnam

The ancient port city of Hoi An is one of Vietnam’s loveliest heritage gems. Its Ancient Town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, is so well-preserved it almost seems frozen in time. Stroll around its narrow streets and admire the mixture of 15th to 19th-century architecture.

Rent a bicycle and spend the day exploring the backstreets that extend from Hoai River or head out to the countryside to explore nearby villages and paddy fields. There are many elaborate and historical pagodas for you to visit, such as Phuoc Lam Pagoda and Chuc Thanh Pagoda.

Get hands-on and sign up for a lantern-making or pottery workshop – the kids will love their unique, handmade souvenirs. Just before sunset, take a boat tour down Thu Bon River.

Bali, Indonesia

Bali is a top holiday destination for families, and with good reason, too – the island has a wide variety of activities and attractions to keep even the most fussy ones entertained.

Learn how to surf by taking some surfing lessons at any of Bali’s popular beaches, or take a breathtaking ride on a Banana Boat. Looking to conquer the seven seas? Pretend to be a pirate for a day at Pirates Bay, a huge pirate-themed playground and restaurant complete with a pirate ship and treehouses.

If you’re not keen on the beach, spend the day splashing around at Waterbom Bali, which has 17 exciting waterslides and all kinds of water-based activities suitable for everyone. Or get put through the ropes at Bali Treetop Adventure, an adventure park with up to seven circuits and up to 72 obstacles.
