Trust us, our list is age-approved and wallet-friendly, as we understand that it takes a village (or just one very helpful article) to successfully accommodate each and every family member’s wants and needs, so you’ll be sure this list won’t disappoint!

Sit back, relax and continue sipping on that orange juice as we recommend you some really awesome activities that will make your family vacay here in beautiful Kuala Lumpur a truly memorable one.

First must-visit attraction on our list is the largest indoor theme park located in a shopping mall! Berjaya Times Square is a sprawling shopping centre complete with restaurants a convention centre and an adjoining 5-star hotel, so it’s only natural that they’ll have a super-cool, indoor theme park, right?

Berjaya Times Square Theme Park is located on level 5 of the mall, and boasts several exhilarating rides such as the Supersonic Odyssey, a multiple-inverted roller coaster that runs at a top speed of 80KM/H, and the Spinning Orbit, which takes riders up to 30 meters above ground while rotating at 10 rounds per minute! If your family’s more of the type that would like to keep their hats on, a more chill experience would be the KL Forest Eco park, a forested enclave in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. The Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve is not only the oldest gazetted forest reserve in the country, but also an urban sanctuary with rejuvenating walking trails. The only butterflies you’ll feel are the actual ones you get to see in this beautiful nature experience.

Free entry and open daily, your family won’t even need to look outside the city for a nature escape, as the Eco Park is located right at the base of the Menara KL. The Menara KL even has a mini zoo! You can find out about entrance fees or book your tickets to the mini zoo here.

Love the indoors, but want a more in-depth experience? How about taking a dive?

Indoors, of course! Aquaria KLCC is an underwater haven located right underneath Kuala Lumpur’s pride and joy, the Petronas Twin Towers. It is a world-class aquarium that houses more than 5,000 species of aquatic and land-bound creatures over a sprawling 60,000 square-foot space.

Our personal favourite: A 90-metre long transparent tunnel that takes you gliding along on a travelator into the world of the aquatic realm, and is perfect for romantic stares with the fishes and corals that surround you. Pro tip: Don’t miss the Gene pool, where you’ll be able to gently stroke and touch some interesting creatures as they hang out in mini pools.

It’s highly unlikely that families won’t enjoy this next one - it’s Malaysia’s national zoo! The Zoo Negara sits on 110 acres of land, and is located just 5 kilometres outside Kuala Lumpur in Jalan Ulu Kelang. The zoo features over 4,000 animals, roaming in spacious living areas.

There’s plenty of animals to fawn over, but our favorites are currently the zoo’s latest ‘superstars’, Xing Xing and Liang Liang, the Giant Panda pair from China, that are currently living in the Giant Panda Conservation Centre. Their arrival to Malaysia represents a symbol of good diplomatic relationships between China and Malaysia, which have been going strong for 40 years.

Xing Xing and Liang Liang recently celebrated the arrival of their second newborn baby panda, a rare success story for giant pandas as natural reproduction is uncommon among pandas which are notoriously clumsy at mating. Go see them for yourselves!

While you’re a little further from the city centre, why not take a sightseeing trip to some pretty awesome limestone caves? Located 11km north of KL, the Batu Caves are a series of stunning limestone caverns, including the Temple Cave, featuring a 100-metre high ceiling.

It’s an opportunity to stretch your muscles as it takes 272 steps to reach the top to the cave entrance. Not a climber? The newly-refurbished steps make for a great family photo opportunity, even from the base!

The Batu Caves host the world’s largest Thaipusam festival every year, with more than a million Hindu devotees (and observers) coming together to celebrate. Plan ahead to join in the festivities and be sure to check out other cool spots nearby!
