The Langkawi Cable Car is said to be the steepest cable car ride on earth. At 708m above sea level, it had us biting our nails. But don’t let that scare you – being on top will give you an invaluable bird’s eye view of the whole island. What’s more, with the RM40 basic entry fare, you get admission to the Sky Bridge and the Art in Paradise Museum too.

Once the cable car makes its stop, you’ll have access to the SkyBridge. Stand amidst the clouds to enjoy the fresh air and a jaw-dropping panoramic view. The breeze and the sight of the forest, hills and sea will knock your socks off!

Love optical illusions and goofy pictures? Whip your smartphone out and snap some quirky pictures. The ever-so-colorful murals in the Art in Paradise museum cover all sorts of themes; from Egyptian marvels, famous paintings, magazine covers and more. During our visit here, we saw plenty of kids and families having a blast!

What’s a trip to Langkawi if you don’t sample local delights such as ikan bakar and laksa Kedah? Visit Ikan Bakar Beras Terbakar for a taste of what’s good in the hood. During our visit, we were lucky enough to try the kerabu beronok (sea cucumber salad), a Langkawi-exclusive delicacy. The taste was a unique combination of salty, chewy and crunchy.

Though we weren’t sure if it was for us, the ikan bakar proved to be an easy win. The smell of the charred fish itself, grilled not too far from our table, was enticing. Choose from a variety of freshly grilled fishes with different marinades and pair it with rice and air asam (tangerine-based dip).

We were thrilled to discover a laksa stand near the ikan bakar store. Laksa Kedah is so well-loved that Kedahans are known to have it all times of the day! Some say that freshly made rice noodles will soak up the tangy, spicy, sour flavors even better. Made irresistible when paired with fresh cucumber and assorted condiments, is it any wonder that many laksa junkies are willing to travel all the way to Langkawi just for a taste?

Once our tummies were full, we headed to the infamous Cenang area. Here, you’ll find everything – from souvenirs, good eats, a beautiful beach and of course, duty-free shopping.

Bring your wallets out and get straight to shopping. From chocolates, alcohol, perfumes, sneakers to kitchenware, you’ll find that everything goes at a much cheaper rate with discounts between 25 to 75 percent off.

Once we realized the sun was setting, a seafood dinner near the beach was in order. We paid a visit to Orkid Ria, a well-known seafood restaurant along the Cenang stretch.

Its popular dishes include tiger prawns or lobsters grilled with cheese on top, which we had alongside a serving of veggies and kam heong squid. We managed to catch the sun’s last rays by the beach, which made for a pretty sight to accompany our hearty meal.

If you think that Cenang slows down after sunrise, you’re wrong. Locals say that the beach stays busy up till 3-4am in the morning. We decided to chill by the beach by visiting Kalut Cafe & Bar, a lounge bar famed for its burgers and hookah. As we sunk into our beanbags amidst the breezy air, we ooh'd and aah'd away at the mesmerizing pyro performance happening right by the cafe front.

Did you know that Langkawi is fast turning into a melting pot of international cultures? Expats love Langkawi! So much so that many have set up shop in this tropical paradise. One such place is La Chocolatine, the only French patisserie in Langkawi set up by a French pastry chef.

To maintain its authenticity, ingredients for the pastries are sourced directly from France. We tried the yummy Pain Au Chocolat and lemon tart. The freshness of the flavors went well with our morning cuppa and tasted heaps better than any mass produced pastries you’ll find in commercial coffee chains.

Ayer Hangat’s hot springs are said to carry medicinal properties. Costing only RM5 for a dip, the natural qualities are said to be good for tired joints. If you’re going with someone else, it’s also possible to opt for a spa package for 2 pax at RM350. Ayer Hangat Village has cultural shows, gift shops and even batik painting classes so be sure to spare half a day to spend here!
