Taiwan Digital Arrival Card (TWAC): Complete 2026 Guide

Planning a trip to Taiwan? There is an important entry requirement you need to know before you fly. Starting October 2025, the Taiwan government officially implemented the Taiwan Digital Arrival Card (TWAC) as a mandatory requirement for foreign visitors. This new system replaces the old paper arrival card that travellers used to fill in on the plane or at the airport, making the immigration process faster and more accurate. This guide covers everything you need to know about TWAC — what it is, who needs it, how to fill it out, and tips for a smooth arrival in Taiwan.

What Is the Taiwan Digital Arrival Card (TWAC)?

The Taiwan Digital Arrival Card (TWAC) is an online arrival form that must be completed before entering Taiwan. Through TWAC, you provide your personal information, passport number, flight details, accommodation address, and purpose of visit online. The process is free of charge and available in multiple languages. Your data is linked directly to Taiwan's immigration system, so officers only need to scan your passport on arrival instead of manually checking a form.

Why Did Taiwan Introduce a Digital Arrival Card?

Taiwan launched TWAC as part of its move to modernise its immigration system. As a tech-driven country, Taiwan is committed to digitising public services, and TWAC fits squarely within that vision. The key reasons behind the introduction include:

Faster immigration processing — all traveller details are already in the system before you land, eliminating the queue just to hand in a paper form
Better accuracy and security — digital submission reduces the risk of lost forms or manual errors, with data connected directly to Taiwan's immigration database
Improved traveller experience — with pre-registered data, immigration officers can process arrivals significantly faster during peak periods

Who Needs to Fill In TWAC?

Most foreign visitors entering Taiwan are required to complete TWAC. The following groups must submit a TWAC before arrival:

Foreign tourists who previously filled in a paper arrival card, including short-term visa holders and visa-free travellers
Citizens of countries with visa-free access to Taiwan, including Singapore, Japan, South Korea, the US, Australia, and Schengen countries
Hong Kong and Macau residents travelling on multiple-entry permits
Mainland Chinese tourists holding a multiple-entry travel permit

The following are exempt from submitting TWAC: Taiwanese nationals without household registration, diplomatic passport holders, and passengers in direct transit who do not clear immigration.

How to Fill In the Taiwan Digital Arrival Card

Filling out TWAC is straightforward and can be done via desktop or mobile browser. The desktop version supports group submissions of up to 16 people, while mobile allows up to 10. Follow these steps to complete your submission:

1.
Go to the official TWAC website — visit twac.immigration.gov.tw, click "Submit Arrival Card", read the instructions, and select "Start". Always use the official government site to avoid scams.
2.
Email verification — enter your active email address, request a verification code (valid for 10 minutes), and input the code to proceed.
3.
Fill in personal and passport details — provide your full name, passport number, nationality, date of birth, passport validity, visa type (Visa Exempt, eVisa, or regular visa number), and occupation. You can also upload a photo of your passport's biodata page for auto-filling.
4.
Enter travel information — provide your flight or vessel number, arrival date, destination airport, and intended departure date. For group submissions, tick "Same as Lead Traveller" if details are shared.
5.
Accommodation and purpose of visit — input your hotel name or accommodation address in Taiwan. If you are staying in multiple places, list your first destination. Select your travel purpose: tourism, business, family visit, study, or transit.
6.
Confirm and submit — double-check all details, tick the declaration box, and click Submit. You will receive a confirmation email with a barcode.
7.
Save your confirmation — keep both a digital and printed copy of the barcode. While immigration usually only scans your passport, the document may be requested for additional verification.

You can complete TWAC any time from two days before arrival up to the day itself. That said, completing it the night before your flight is strongly recommended to avoid any last-minute technical issues.

If your travel details change after submission, log back into the TWAC portal, select "Update Arrival Card", and enter your card number, date of birth, passport number, and nationality to make corrections.

While you wait for your flight, start planning your Taiwan activities — from night markets in Taipei and cycling routes in Taichung, to the stunning Taroko Gorge and the beaches of Kenting.
