VTL Malaysia - COVID-19 is still a condition that needs to be watched out for today. The large number of positive patients who are still there makes it important to limit activities. As of 4 December 2022, the number of active cases of COVID-19 in Singapore has reached 2.17 million people.

However, there is one thing you should know before going to Malaysia, which is the Singapore Malaysia VTL. The Vaccination Travel Pathway or VTL is a framework to facilitate two-way travel by individuals who have received a full regimen of COVID-19 vaccines.

VTL will allow fully vaccinated travelers from one country to enter another country without quarantine, subject to COVID-19 testing and any further requirements determined by the receiving country. This will help conclude air connectivity in a safe and discreet manner.

This VTL rule applies if you want to go to Malaysia. You can go using Singapore Airlines to international airports in Kuala Lumpur or Penang with the Malaysian VTL mechanism. This rule has been in effect since March 16, 2022.

Apart from understanding the rules of VTL Land Malaysia or VTL Flight Malaysia, you also need to understand the rules regarding travel from Singapore. While there are currently no restrictions imposed for departures from Singapore, you must comply with the entry requirements imposed by the destination country/region.

Some destinations may require travelers to present a combination of a COVID-19 test and the following documents, such as a pre-departure COVID-19 test report (PCR or ART) obtainable in Singapore, a vaccination certificate, and a digitally authenticated recovery certificate if you have tested positive for COVID-19.

There are several regulations that must be obeyed by tourists from Singapore who wish to have a vacation in Malaysia. Several documents are also needed to enter Malaysia from Singapore.

Not only that, you also have to pay attention to the things that are needed before flying to Malaysia. By paying attention to every detail, your trip will be more comfortable and safe, and you can minimize other obstacles.

Some important documents that you must prepare before entering Malaysia include a valid national passport or an internationally recognized travel document or an Electronic Visit Pass (e-Pass) which proves that the traveler has stayed in Singapore and/or Malaysia within 14 days last in a row before leaving for Malaysia.

In addition, you must also prepare a valid visa (for visitors who require a visa), boarding pass, return ticket and proof of accommodation (if applicable) except for Malaysian Permanent Residents and holders of Long-Term Passes.

The types of vaccines allowed to enter Malaysia are Sinovac, Pfizer, Moderna, Sinopharm, AstraZeneca, Covishield, Novavax, Johnson & Johnson, Covaxin, Sputnik V, and CanSino Sputnik Light. The many types of vaccines that are allowed to enter Malaysia allow travelers from various countries to come there, including from Singapore.

Next, there are a number of things you need to pay attention to before flying to Malaysia. Starting 1 May 2022, those of you who are fully vaccinated and children 12 years old and under, will no longer have to undergo quarantine or testing, including pre-departure and on-arrival tests when entering Malaysia.

Currently, you only need to upload, at least once, your vaccine certificate through the MySafeTravel portal. Starting August 1, 2022, you no longer need to fill in a traveler's card, which was previously done by downloading the MySejahtera App onto a mobile phone to fill in the Pre-Departure Form found under the 'Traveller' icon before the flight.

In addition, if you are a fully-vaccinated short-term visitor, you are no longer required to purchase mandatory travel insurance. However, it is recommended to have yourself covered for COVID-19-related medical/treatment expenses and hospitalization costs.

The regulations for entering Malaysia that you should know include, must undergo health status screening, including body temperature scanning upon arrival at KLIA or PIA and be required to present proof of registration on MySafeTravel portal.

MySafeTravel portal is “Pre-Registration Slip” for COVID-19 testing and a physical copy of the negative pre-departure test result for verification by BP Clinical Lab Health Screening Center at KLIA or Edgenta UEMS Lab in PIA.

In addition, you must have a swab taken for the RT-PCR COVID-19 test at the BP Clinical Lab Health Screening Centre. If you have recently recovered from COVID-19 (i.e. within 11 to 60 days), you are required to undergo a supervised self-administered rapid antigen test.

Test results will be available soon. Once the swab has been taken or a self-supervised rapid antigen test done (if applicable), you can proceed to immigration. After passing immigration, then there are still a few things that need to be known.

If you have recently recovered from COVID19 (i.e. within 11 to 60 days), you should immediately take private transportation, a taxi or a private chartered car from the airport to the stated accommodation. You cannot go by public bus or train.

You must also isolate yourself, or with household members who have been vaccinated and have the same travel history, date of arrival, and self-isolation requirements, until the RT-PCR test results on arrival are confirmed to be negative.

RT-PCR COVID-19 test results upon arrival will be available within 24 hours. Once you are notified that your test result is negative for COVID-19, your "COVID-19 Risk Status" will be changed to "Low Risk". After that, the digital HSO on your MySejahtera user profile will be marked as "Completed" and you can continue your activities in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, things that need to be considered after arriving and while you are in Malaysia, namely that you must comply with applicable public health measures, including the requirements to wear a mask and maintain a safe distance, as well as other safety management measures.

You will be responsible for medical expenses if you require medical treatment for COVID-19 while in Malaysia. In order to be able to do contact tracing, you must always activate the MySejahtera application on your mobile device while in Malaysia. At the request of the Malaysian Ministry of Health, you must also provide all data in the MySejahtera application if you test positive for COVID19 while in Malaysia.

After knowing all the information about the procedures for going to Malaysia and while you are there, you also need to understand the quarantine-free rules for returning to Singapore. For your information, from 29 August 2022, everyone can enjoy quarantine-free travel in Singapore regardless of their vaccination status.

To be free from testing and quarantine, you must be able to meet the public health requirements below. If you fail to meet public health requirements and refuse any test and/or quarantine, you may be refused from Singapore.

The first requirement is to produce an International Certificate of Vaccination for Yellow Fever, if you have visited any country/region in Africa or Latin America identified by the WHO to be at risk of Yellow Fever transmission in the past 6 days before arrival in Singapore.

The second requirement is to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination according to the minimum WHO Emergency Use Listing (EUL) vaccine dosage at least two weeks before arrival in Singapore. Evidence of vaccines can be in the form of digital vaccination apps, hardcopy certificates, or acceptance letters from the Vaccination Check Portal.

If you can meet the COVID-19 requirements above, you can skip the General Entry Requirements. If not, you will need to meet additional COVID-19 requirements, such as a Pre-Departure Test (PDT) such as PCR or ART, and COVID-19 Travel Insurance.

Next, the General Entry Requirements that you must fulfill, namely Passport Validity, Visa, SG Arrival Card (SGAC), Security and Immigration Processes on Arrival. You must also comply with the Post-arrival Advisories for all designated Domestic COVID-19 Measures.
