Pak Malau Nasi Dagang

Pak Malau Nasi Dagang

Located on Jalan Makam Mahsuri, you can eat in a charming gazebo next to a paddy field and take in the awe-inspiring sight of Gunung Raya, the tallest mountain on Langkawi. Pak Malau Nasi Dagang is famous for its gulai ikan tongkol, a fish curry that traditionally goes with the nasi dagang. However, you can opt to have your rice with chicken curry, beef rendang or mutton korma. The main dishes are usually left to cook over a long period of time, lending to its meat-falling-off-the-bone texture.

Yellow Beach Cafe

Yellow Beach Cafe

This lively beachfront cafe is set along Jalan Pantai Tengah on the southern end of Cenang Beach. As the sun goes down, the cafe transforms from a chilled hangout to a buzzing nightlife hub with live music. The food menu ranges from local eats to Western favorites, and you can watch the sun set from the comfort of a hammock, daybed or even a jacuzzi! Aina and Rhys ordered some buttered prawn with fried rice, capping it off with a crepe drizzled with chocolate and almonds, served with a generous scoop of ice cream on the side.

Roti Canai Black Pepper

Roti Canai Black Pepper

Too spicy for you, Rhys?

The beloved roti canai is so versatile that you can add almost anything to it and it’d still be delicious, whether it’s egg, cheese, condensed milk, or in this case, black pepper sauce. This unique twist, which includes chunks of beef, chicken or lamb wrapped by crispy egg-coated roti canai and drenched in black pepper sauce, can be found on Jalan Kedawang near Kampung Temoyong. You won’t want to miss out on Rhys’ hilarious attempt to learn how to make roti canai. 😂

Open daily | 7.00am - 3.00pm

Tanjung Tirai View Cafe

Tanjung Tirai View Cafe

Hankering for some Thai and Malay-inspired seafood? Get your fix at Tanjung Tirai View Cafe, a family business that serves up dishes based on recipes handed down generation to generation. The seaside restaurant’s must-try dishes include ikan masak asam Jawa, deep-fried calamari and curry crab. If you want to learn how they make their ikan masak asam Jawa taste so darn good, be sure to listen closely to this portion of the video!

Open daily | 5.00pm - 12.00am

Laksa Ikan Sekoq

Laksa Ikan Sekoq

Right outside the airport on Jalan Kuala Muda is a humble food truck by the beach that’s famous for its comforting bowl of spicy, tangy Kedah laksa, complete with an entire fish (or “ikan sekoq”, in the northern lingo). Besides that, regulars like to order pasembur, rojak buah or mee hoon sup utara, followed by an icy bowl of cendol to cool down. Cheap eats accompanied by a refreshing sea breeze? Talk about living the dream!

Open daily | 12.00pm - 7.00pm

Gelato Cabana

Gelato Cabana

Aina's singing her praises for the yummy gelato.

Cenang Beach is undoubtedly the island’s main tourist hotspot, and on the busy road that runs parallel to it you’ll find the cozy Gelato Cabana. Savor a scoop – or more (no judgement! 🙈) – of fresh, homemade Italian-style ice cream in your flavor(s) of choice. Made from natural, premium ingredients, this creamy treat is just what a hot, sunny day calls for. 🍨

Open daily | 12.00pm - 10.00pm

Arts Cafe

Arts Cafe

Experience the modern and artistic side of Langkawi at Arts Cafe on Jalan Pandak Mayah 5, where you can slowly sip on a cup of coffee while surrounded by colorful works of art. It initially started as an art gallery, but has since expanded to include a cafe with an extensive home-cooked menu. The wondrous masterpieces are created by local artists, so the cafe helps shine a well-deserved spotlight on Langkawi’s arts scene.

Open daily | 9.00am - 10.00pm
