Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) is the main international gateway to Singapore and one of the busiest and most awarded airports in the world. Operated by Changi Airport Group and sitting on the eastern tip of the island, it pairs a huge international network with facilities that have made it a destination in its own right.
Changi Airport carries the IATA code SIN and the ICAO code WSSS. It lies roughly 20 km east of the city centre and is built around four passenger terminals (T1 to T4) served by three runways, giving it the capacity to move enormous volumes of travellers smoothly.
As the primary hub of a global city-state, Changi handles close to 68 million passengers a year, placing it among the world's busiest international airports. Because Singapore is a city-state, effectively all services here are international rather than domestic, which makes Changi a true long- and short-haul connecting point across Asia, Australia, the Middle East and beyond.
Some of the most frequently flown routes from Changi connect Singapore with regional capitals and leisure hubs, including:
Changi is the home base of flag carrier Singapore Airlines, alongside low-cost arm Scoot. In total, more than 100 international carriers operate here, so travellers can usually compare several airlines on the same route before booking.
The airport has four passenger terminals, T1 to T4, connected by the Skytrain and walkways. Linked to the terminals is Jewel Changi Airport, a retail, dining and nature complex famous for the Rain Vortex, the world's tallest indoor waterfall at around 40 m.
The Changi MRT station connects the airport to the city centre in roughly 30 to 40 minutes with one transfer, at about S$2 with a travel card. Taxis reach the city in around 30 minutes, with fares and journey times that vary by traffic and time of day — verify at time of travel.
Changi is renowned for its passenger experience, with themed gardens, lounges, extensive dining and retail, and the attractions of Jewel all within easy reach of the gates.
