Room was clean but we got a room to sleep 4 as we had our kids, it had a sofa bed which we had to make ourselves, it was extremely uncomfortable. Did not come with extra pillows we had a massive day out so got room service for dinner burgers and fries paid over $120 for the food it took 45minutes to arrive yet the fries where really cold and someone must of dropped the salt in as they were inedibley salty and burgers where very very cold we complained and told them we where starving to which staff said they will send someone up to come and collect it he came 5 minutes later and was stone silent did not apologise did not offer to make more food or what else they could do to make us more comfortable just took it and ran. I want back 40 minutes later as I assumed that because they suggested to take our food away right away that they would test it and make us more but no he said he didn’t realise we wanted it re made. I said fine look just send a refund. And I’ll go get kfc. The next morning went down to buffet breakfast hoping for at least a decent breakfast but no again food was cold and not fresh. They didn’t even include coffee as had to order the barista coffee which was $8 each. All up breakfast was $130 and again not worth it what so ever. We had stayed here before and it was great but now I am really not sure if I would again.

The hotel was generally very good. The staff were helpful and quick to respond. The breakfast was nice with a great view over the harbour. Our room looked out over the harbour - worth the extra money if you like watching the goings on of a busy port. And it’s well located for dining, shopping etc. The only downside was the room was a little tired and dated, showing signs of wear and tear - a few dents and scratches here and there, a window sill with signs of water damage, the shower was the type where you stand in the bath etc. The hotel had signs up, advertising that the rooms were getting a make-over, but ours hasn’t had that. Hence four stars instead of five. Also, the only parking options provided by the hotel was $35 per day valet parking. There are small car parks nearby, but they required sign-up to an app and it wasn’t clear what price they were, so we just used the valet parking - something to keep in mind when calculating the cost of the room if you arrive by car.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Contacted about getting an extra towel and it arrived within minutes. Great location easy to get around the city. They are upgrading their rooms ours was not updated yet, downfall was the bathroom. Shower was in the bath and very small, mould in the shower curtain and grout all coming away. But that should all be fixed with updating. Felt a bit expensive for an outdated room.

Check in was smooth, upon entering our room the sofa bed was not made up at all for our children. Even though the front desk informed me it was. We only had two towels aswell. We booked and paid for 2 adults and 2 children. Front desk said they would send housekeeping. An hour and a half later we called again and were told housekeeping were aware. We went to dinner and upon our return bed was made up. For one child only. Sheets had black marks, hair and what appeared to be pink lipstick on them. Rang reception for a third time to inform them. 5 minutes later a knock on the door - the man handed me sheets to make the bed. I asked him to come in and have a look. He was surprised. We stripped the bed and re made it. He then had to go and source another pillow. Upon bedtime my children complained that the bed was uncomfortable. I tried it and all you could feel were the springs. This is a 4 star hotel. This was definately not 4 star. We are staying in a motel tonight and the beds, cleanliness are far above what we experienced at Rydges Newcastle. I wouldn’t waste your money on the buffet breakfast either. We went down at 9am. No hash browns. No pancakes. I was informed they had no more maple syrup for the day. Went to get cereal and there was no milk. Very basic, very average and not what I would except from Rydges hotels. Wouldn’t waste my money next time. Better places to stay.

Room 209 Toilet lid was loose. Positioning of toilet roll holders bad. Need to be a contortionist to access. Shower gel recess 1M from shower in opposite wall!! No yogurt with breakfast fruit. No foot stool in shower recess for elderly people. TV turned itself on at 3AM. Need cushions on lounge to rest head against while watching TV. Spout on bathroom sink so long it is impossible to wash your face. Nowhere to put soap after getting it out of the box except on bench top making it all wet and slippery. Only one suitcase stand. We travel with two small suitcases.

Super clean, excellent location great food and lots of space in the room, the only issue is parking. Fix that and this would be one of the best places to stay anywhere.

Needs an update. Old and dated. Pillows were hideous! Staff were lovely though!
