The Zhujiang New Town area within Tianhe is particularly popular, offering stunning Pearl River views and proximity to the Guangzhou Opera House.

Yuexiu District

Yuexiu is the historical centre of Guangzhou, perfect for travellers interested in culture and heritage. This district is home to Yuexiu Park with its famous Five Rams Statue, the Museum of the Mausoleum of the Nanyue King, and the bustling Beijing Road pedestrian street. Hotels here tend to be more affordable than in Tianhe, and the area offers excellent access to traditional Cantonese restaurants and local markets. It is well-connected by metro, making it a convenient base for exploring the entire city.

Liwan District

For Singapore travellers seeking an authentic old Guangzhou experience, Liwan District is the place to stay. This area features the charming Xiguan historical neighbourhood with its distinctive Lingnan-style architecture, the famous Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street for shopping and street food, and the beautiful Litchi Bay waterfront. Hotels in Liwan are generally budget-friendly, and the district offers some of the best traditional dim sum restaurants in the city. It is a wonderful area for leisurely exploration on foot.

Haizhu District (Canton Fair Area)

Haizhu District is home to the Canton Fair Complex, making it the go-to area for business travellers attending the biannual trade fair. The district also features the scenic Haizhu Wetland Park and is located along the south bank of the Pearl River. Hotels near the Canton Fair Complex range from mid-range to luxury, and the area offers good transport links to the rest of the city via metro and bus.

The hotel provides excellent value with comfortable beds, free Wi-Fi, and convenient access to the metro and high-speed rail connections to other Chinese cities.

Best Time to Visit Guangzhou

The best time for Singapore travellers to visit Guangzhou is during autumn, from October to December, when the weather is pleasantly warm with lower humidity and minimal rainfall. Spring, from March to May, is also a good time to visit, with comfortable temperatures and the city's famous flowers in bloom. Guangzhou is known as the "City of Flowers," and the annual Guangzhou Flower Festival around Chinese New Year is a spectacular cultural event. Summers from June to September can be hot and humid with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius, along with occasional typhoons and heavy rain. Winters from January to February are mild compared to northern China but can feel chilly. Singapore travellers should note that hotel rates spike during the Canton Fair periods in April and October, as well as during Chinese national holidays such as Golden Week in early October and Chinese New Year.

Getting to Guangzhou from Singapore

Guangzhou is easily accessible from Singapore via direct flights. Multiple airlines operate daily flights from Singapore Changi Airport to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, with a flight time of approximately 4 hours. Guangzhou Baiyun Airport is one of China's busiest airports and is well-connected to the city centre via the Airport Express metro line, which takes about 30 to 45 minutes to reach Tianhe district.

From the airport, travellers can also take taxis, ride-hailing services, or airport shuttle buses to reach their hotels. For those combining Guangzhou with other cities in the Pearl River Delta, the Guangzhou South Railway Station is a major high-speed rail hub offering fast connections to Shenzhen (30 minutes), Hong Kong (50 minutes), and other Chinese cities. Book your flights on Traveloka alongside your hotel for convenient bundle deals and savings.

Top Attractions in Guangzhou

Guangzhou offers a wealth of attractions for Singapore travellers. The Canton Tower, standing at 604 metres, is the city's most iconic landmark and offers observation decks, a sky walk, and a thrilling free-fall ride. The Chen Clan Ancestral Hall is a masterpiece of traditional Lingnan architecture, featuring intricate carvings, pottery sculptures, and folk art exhibitions. Shamian Island, a former foreign concession area, is a peaceful enclave of tree-lined avenues and European colonial buildings perfect for leisurely strolls.

For shopping enthusiasts, Beijing Road and Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street offer a mix of modern retail and traditional shops. The Guangzhou Museum housed in the historic Zhenhai Tower within Yuexiu Park provides excellent insights into the city's rich history. Tips for Booking Hotels in Guangzhou

To secure the best hotel deals in Guangzhou, Singapore travellers should avoid booking during Canton Fair periods unless necessary, as hotel prices can double or even triple during these events. Use Traveloka's search filters to compare prices and read reviews from fellow travellers. Consider staying near metro stations for convenient travel around the city, as Guangzhou's metro network is extensive and efficient. Download a translation app before your trip, as English is not widely spoken outside major hotels and tourist areas. A VPN is recommended for accessing Singapore-based apps and websites while in China. When booking, check whether your hotel offers airport transfer services, as this can simplify your arrival. Take advantage of Traveloka's flight-plus-hotel bundles for the best overall value, and look out for seasonal promotions and promo codes to maximise your savings on Guangzhou accommodation.
