Really enjoyed it, room was nice and breakfast was very good as well. Had afternoon sandwiches at the Brassiere and then ate at the 1851 in the evening. Wine cellar bar was very nice as well. Will visit again.

1. There was a large crack in a window pane that was covered by masking tape. Clear tape would have been better to disguise it. Simple change. 2. The bath had a LOT of scratched chips out of it. 3. The spare toilet roll holder was at shin height so it made you sit on the toilet at an angle. 4. The bed was so close to the fire surround that you had to lean slightly to get past, after you had moved the elephant decoration statue out of the way first. 5. There were those ultrasoft pillows on the bed that you sink right into and when asked if we could get some firm pillows reception didn't even know if there were any available. Supplied us with more soft pillows instead. 6. Cobwebs around the ceiling and cornices right around the room. 7. Has a silly decorative serving style trolley doing nothing but no where to place a suitcase, never-mind 2 cases that would not have been in the way all the time. 8. Brasserie is one of those places that automatically add a 10% tip that you have to ask to be removed rather than being something you add to show an over-and-above experience. 9. Had wrong prices on bill, more than the menu stated. 10. Decor in the Brasserie and fine dining restaurant was trying to be modern in an old castle that you would expect the internal to match as part of the experience. The quality of the Brasserie tables and chairs was severely below expectations for the type of place it was portrayed as. 11. Even though the room was a good size it had no sitting chairs TBC

We booked afternoon tea with overnight stay. The place was very clean but some areas were quite dated, bathrooms and general toilets were modern & spotless. Staff were excellent; friendly and attentive. Food at teatime was lovely. The only two negatives was that some places were quite dark as using artificial candles, even receptionist struggled to see room number on the key when we were booking in. The other was afternoon tea was disappointing plus supposed to be with ‘Bubbles’. I have to agree with other customer negative reviews on the food. We were given one - under half filled glass of bubbly. When we asked if we could have another drink we were told we had to pay for it. This was a gift which I know was not cheap for what we received. Apart from this it was a good experience.

Stayed for our Anniversary. Beautiful location. Reception staff friendly. Breakfast staff were amazing. Hairdryer packed up as cheap and no replacement. Bath panel Bradley marked and chipped. No biscuits with tea in room on arrival. Main restaurant very limited as set 7 course meal at £75 per person very expensive. Being able to explore the castle was a great bonus. Bath tubs with flowers in at entrance not fitting for grandeur of place. Would like to see brasserie open as bar during day. Perhaps a welcome drink for guests would be a nice touch.
