Yelf's Hotel

We did a 3 night break. The staff were very friendly great people. Lovely social sitting areas. Nice bar and coffee area. The bed room very spacious, beds were clean the bathroom was clean but no window and the vent didn’t work so it smelt damp. We kept the door shut and once we had our showers the smell was not so bad. The sitting area was great space furniture parts worn but nothing really to stop us going back. Location very convenient. Nice cafes restaurants local convenience stores. Would I go back there YES!

Select hotel becuase of the location and free parking, which was essential but when we got to the hotel, was told parking offsite but when got to the space, there was only 6 parking spacing, all full, so had to park away from the hotel and walk back. Sink drain bubbling up, even when not in use, toilet constantly dripping, smell of drains always Spoke to reception and they said someone would look at but happen the second night. Walls are also thin, could hear snoring from the other rooms

We stayed in an appartment across from the hotel. Very good spot for beach and transport. Was very clean but needed plenty of updating. Rotton window in bathroom which also looked very tired. The whole room did need a re vamp but served us very well.

Really nice and spacious rooms, staffs were so polite.. Many other shops were in walkable distance and have a beautiful sea view nearby...

Very comfortable the room was large and the bed was just right . The hotel was right in the town soeasy access to shops and restaurants and not very far from the beach

The condition of the room was appalling and the hotel should be ashamed. Stains on the bedsheets, stains on the carpet next to the bed, bathroom ceiling paint peeling, rusty shower fixture, paint peeling off the window sill and the door had apparently been broken into previously and not repaired. Never again shall I book into this once respectable hotel and I believe a refund should be in order.

Everything was brilliant. Apart from one of the rooms we were in, you couldn't april in one of the windows but the other two you could.

Had a full refund back as room was at the top of the building in the eaves mattress was stained and could feel the springs on the bed . No proper mattress protector only an old blanket the blinds in the bathroom and the bedroom were ripped and the carpet looked very worn the gentleman that doubt with my problem was very good and gave me a full refund. I then booked in to somewhere else for the night

The staff were pleasant, helpful and friendly and went above & beyond normal service, and we thank particularly Jay & Grace for their help. Our rooms were on the top floor, which if you have mobility issues could be a problem. However, on check-in Jay helped us up to the second floor with our luggage and did his best to make it less of a struggle. I would say for anyone who is disabled, this hotel is not for you. The hotel doesn’t have a lift, but we found out, it’s a listed building (built in the early 1800’s), so renovations are limited. Overall the sea view rooms are comfortable and clean, but the decor is very tired and the bathrooms could benefit from some general maintenance. The cleaning staff were very friendly too, and accommodated our request for extra pillows - lovely ladies. We had breakfast on our first morning, but our experience wasn’t great. The waitress was quite curt and seemed not to want to be there. The food was lukewarm and seemed to have been cooked long before it was served to us. Due to this, we opted to go out for breakfast on our second morning. Overall, the hotel was convenient for the hovercraft, and whilst it was a trek up Union Street hill, we did find out that the number 9 bus goes from the port up to the library where you can alight, leaving a short walk downhill to the Yelf’s, which is a lot easier on the knees! Great location property a bit tired could do with an upgrade

Our room had 5 ceiling spotlights but only 1 worked and the table lamp also didn't work. Hence we were in the semi dark for 2 evenings as no maintenance people working over the bank holiday to replace 5 bulbs. Eventually ceiling light bulbs were changed but not the table lamp. Generally the hotel looked tired and were surprised that the restaurant was closed.

Our stay didn’t start well having to wait ages for someone to come to reception to check us in. Because we had a family room we were in a different building across the road. The room was big but wasn’t in the best condition. It all needs a deep clean and a lick of paint. In the evening we had a meal in the restaurant and again due to lack of staff had to wait more than an hour for our food to arrive. We felt so sorry for the waitress who was also the barmaid. She was having to do both jobs running around everywhere but still had a smile on her face. At breakfast all there was to have was toast, cereal or a full English. Very limited. No fruit or pastries. Again had to wait about 40 minutes for it to arrive. Very disappointing stay.

The only Issue we had was the lack of ales at the bar. Come Saturday evening, there was no real ale available at the hotel bar. This prevented us from eating at the hotel in the evenings.

Booked for 2 days family trip. I had booked 1 double and 2 twin beds but I got room with 3 twin beds only! I had shuttle between few options and had to settle down with 3 single bed room. We ourselves had to take bed from another room and arrange it. Next day room service was also not done and finally shifted to the chosen room on 2nd day evening. Staff was friendly but helpless at times.

Stained bedding and hair on bed And asked for a lower floor cause have mobility issues and got put in room 38

Basic but good value for money with town close by great little bar with friendly efficient staff,parking is off site and limited in an adjacent street although it possible to park on street outside free from 6pm till 9am

Hotel requires lots of repair and maintenance as water damage in places and bits falling down. Pity as this could be a nice property with lots of historic character.
