We picked the Melia for its Berlin location. It was a very pleasant stay in this Spanish property. Every employee was pleasant and helpful, the room was most comfortable (with wash cloths in Germany!) and we very much enjoyed the hotel.
The only downside we experienced was the Tapas restaurant. We visited twice. While they were open and had other customers, they seemed surprised to see us, needing to check before they could say they were open and serving food. The menu was confusing (we're well-traveled Americans) and we were unsure of what we were ordering (quantity? it's a sandwich?). There are better restaurants in the area.

Very pleased we chose this hotel. The location is excellent - very close to Friedrichstrasse train station and within easy walking distance of all the attractions. Lots of options nearby for dining.
The staff were welcoming and friendly and I'd like to say a special thank you to the receptionist who checked us in. On hearing that BA had lost our luggage, she immediately headed off to find us extra slippers, bathrobes, and toothbrushes and toothpaste - an absolute lifesaver.
We had opted for an upgraded room (The Level) which gave access to the Executive Lounge at the hotel. The room was spacious, clean and the bathroom had toiletries from Rituals.
The Executive Lounge was a nice feature. Every evening we would head there for a glass of wine and a pre-dinner appetiser. These were different each night and very tasty. Even when the lounge was quite busy, it was a chilled and relaxed atmosphere. Staff there were friendly and attentive.
Overall, if we ever head back to Berlin, I'd be booking this hotel again and based on our experience, I'll be looking for this brand in other cities too.

This hotel is well located for walking to shops, restaurants and public transport (we were able to get the train direct from the airport to station a couple of mins away). However we arrived early and as soon as we got to reception there was quite a hard sell on upgrading our room. This happened to us twice and seemed to be the only thing the reception team were interested in selling to you. We declined but perhaps they can ease up on this, it's not what you want after international travel - a friendly welcome would be plenty enough!

This was my first time visiting Berlin and for one positive note, the location of this hotel is idyllic - perfect for walking to local shops, attractions, restaurants etc. However, I have to say, for a 4-star hotel I am quite disappointed in it's quality. On the 1st day, our hotel chair leg snapped off and despite notifying the front desk the same day, it wasn't replaced until the day before we were checking-out. There was mildew on the sides of the shower door, limescale on the faucet and uncleaned marks/stains on the mirrors and furniture. The room was sweltering even with the heating off and aircon on - we ended up sleeping with the window open in the middle of December. We were given x2 coffee sachets, x2 teabags and x2 tiny milks - barely enough to make a decent hot drink.The hotel restaurant staff could have been more friendlier as we felt rushed and slightly uncomfortable around them, not to mention the prices for the food & drink at the restaurant and the portions you receive - I understand this is a tapas bar but €16 for a piece of beef less than the size of my palm is outrageous. Unfortunately I cannot say I will be returning.

I thought the property was well located. The issue was that I could see that there was hair on floor and toilet was not cleaned properly. It would help to have a nice smell when you enter the room. Location its rated high.
