Micasa is a beautiful and finely crafted residence. The owner was very hospitable, caring and ensured ease of contact if there was any need. I would highly recommend anyone who is looking for a peaceful stay in a Japanese home to consider Micasa.
This townhome was the highlight of our stay in Kyoto. It's located in an old residential neighborhood with an abundance of charming cafes, restaurants and stores on every block. The streets are quiet and walkable, with more bicycles to avoid than cars. But it's still centrally located, walking distance to a major subway stop and Niho Castle and the Imperial Palace.
The townhouse itself is perfection. It's an original Machiya that have been fully renovated on the inside to the highest standards. Radiant heat wood floors, the highest quality towels, bed sheets and even pajamas, and the most luxurious bathroom. WiFi was excellent and they even had a Bose player with some very nice CDs for listening. The quality and craftsmanship of townhouse is unlike any rental I've experienced. You can tell someone took extreme care in building this property.
But, the best part is the hosts. Naoki and Yasuko are the kindest, most helpful hosts. Emails communication prior to arrival was prompt. And once we arrived, they help us make reservations at all their favorite restaurants. They even gave us a cell phone to use to call in case we needed anything (we didn't have to use it). They truly gave us an experience we could not get staying in a hotel in the tourist area. When we come back to Kyoto, we will certainly stay here again.
This is the second time I wrote the review for this guesthouse.
My first review for Micasa was gone when I click the send button, but I want to finish writing the review to let more people know Micasa and how good this place is.
The facilities are very new. The overall interior has that calm, clean, and a little bit zen feeling. Our family especially likes their bathroom, it was quite a enjoyment to use a bathroom like that. (The automatic bath system was very nice.) (And you MUST try their pajamas after bathing. Our family all had a SUPER relax night wearing their pajamas after bath.)
The house has 2 western beds and a traditional tatami area that can fit 2-3 futon (traditional Japanese bed). The bed are AMAZING. It’s not too soft, but it totally help you resume your energy after the long walk in Kyoto!
The owner Naoki and his sister Yasuko co-manage the guesthouse. They are super friendly and helpful.
-they showed us their tea ceremony (got Japanese tea and Japanese sweet)
-let us try their kimono and take photos (they are kimono manufacturer)
-gave us a Japanese cell phone in convenience to call them for emergency
-help us reserved the taxi to main train station and limousine bus to airport
-gave us a little souvenir when we left
In conclusion, he hosts and the house are excellent!
We will definitely come to stay here again once we visit Kyoto.
If anyone wants to visit Kyoto for a exceptional experience, I highly recommend you to stay at Micasa.
